Don't see a changes thread yet and we've got a couple of weeks to dissect...

Garlett for Spargo...the kids been good but we need some magic from Jeff and a bit more forward pressure.

Weid for Pedders...Great VFL player Pedders and would have been a handy mark kick player in the 60's and 70's but he unbalances our forward structure and offers nothing in the ruck these days.

I would bring Petty in and Goodwin may have to drop a mate in Bernie to make way...we need to develop another tall defender and the time is now.

Like Pedders I think Frost can stay back at Casey, very much a VFL level player.

Leg speed was a problem today but a big part of the problem was getting drawn to the honey...in the other recent games we have kept our composure and as follows our structure around the ball. Today was little league standard around the ball.

What has that to do with selection...well, just wanted to get it out there.

Also, although Hunt offers some leg speed his form hasn't been great so brining him in for that might be a mistake.

IN: Petty (we need another key back), Hunt (out of form but back him in, needed for much needed pace), Baker (for pace), Garlett(time for Spargo to go back to VFL level), Weideman (because Pedersen is pathetic and finished), Tyson (in good form)

OUT: Vince(too old and slow), Spargo (needs to find form), Hannan (not doing enough), Harmes (not good enough), Pedersen(he's finished at Melbourne), Petracca (make a statement he's out of form).

Be bold and swing the axe Goody we won't get close to a flag without change, bringing in some pace and height down back will be a start.

Interesting I liked what I saw of Oskar Baker and always think Hunt and Jeffy can add more and would exploit Ports lack of Pace! Weeds must play rest of the year to season him for next years campaign!

Can you merge my one with this one.

I didn't see this one.

Depends on how the loss is viewed by the coaches.  Was it a break down in the systems or individual form...

OUT: Pedersen, Spargo, Vince

IN: Tyson, Hunt, Jeffy

Whats the obsession with resting Spargo? His first half was fine and the week off can only help.

Pedo, Vince and Hannan likely omissions.

That's my 5 as of tonight. Let the bye and actions of players demand if they be picked and not dropped.

I think Harry Petty deserves a shot as a genuine CHB and I just want Hunt back in. Had enough of the old battlers.

Bull Smith is an obvious one to come in and offer more than Pedersen as the third tall. Thought Pedersen went ok and still has to be an option if Hogan or T Mc get injured but we need the forward pressure, we can't have 3 non tackling talls.

Otherwise I think it's time for midfield reinforcements even if guys have had a rest after the bye. That means Stretch in on a wing to tag Polec and in more of a surprise I'd give JKH one last shot as a midfielder. I'd be resting/rotating the mids more through the forward line, starting with Jack Viney opening the game in a forward pocket and setting the tone for forward pressure. But Harmes, JKH, Fritsch, Oliver I'd rotate them all through.

No more rotating Tom McDonald on a wing. No more Hogan on ball either unless he's not getting in the game.

Classic Demonland.  One loss and we're making 6 changes to the side.

It won't go that way.  There are a few who are on the edge, and no doubt they'll want to change things up a little, but six changes?  The Suns will be making six changes.  We'll make two, maybe three tops.

Won’t be seeing Hunt anytime soon. He was at the game today on crutches. Not sure if the injury but he said he’d be off legs for a while.

So stay slow and small down back?

There’s 3 definites I reckon, I added a potential 4th in the other thread. Need to remove player on the edge and reward VFL form I reckon. Today’s effort was unacceptable

It's exactly the same back line, minus Lever, we've had for the previous 6 games.  It didn't seem to worry us then.

The Pies were at their absolute best today and had a game plan that took us a part.  That doesn't mean we make 6 changes.  It means we go away and look for ways to ensure it doesn't happen again.

We have played no one until today and got our pants pulled down. Looked far too slow and small down back. Fancy that useless donkey Cox killing us.

Haven't we?  That's funny.  I thought we'd smashed 6 teams off the park recently, but there you go.  We played nobody.

One loss doesn't equal panic stations.  It's why Goodwin is in the chair and not one of us.  They are slightly more sensible than any supporter after a loss.

I'm not against rewarding form, but Pedersen was rewarded for it and we all saw how he went.  It's how he's gone for a while now, with the odd good game as the anomaly.

Either way, my point stands.  We won't be making wholesale changes unless we end up with 3 or 4 injuries.

That is bad news we lack pace and one of the few that has it is injured, hopefully it's not too long fingers crossed.

After today, Pedersen is done. Has served us well but may as well get games into Weid now. Vince, Petracca, Hannan on a knifes edge.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
