I noticed that on TV, but it seems he lags behind too often when players are leading, then ends up having to chase extremely hard, when it would be easier to just commit to manning up originally (I've noticed this over a few games).

I think I'm on a similar page to Chook's most recent post. He can be very frustrating and could of had an amazing game today. He was still a good contributor today and I'm hoping it will all come together in the finals.

No. Thats why we fail, when getting almost to the top.  When nearly there, we stop trying harder.  ease off.  see, the treason why we don';t put teams away, the killer instincvt goes eve harder to crush teams. not easae up.

 

Same for our players.  Once we adore them,,, don't then soften them... FFS.

 

Tracc,  has a mountain to climb yet, in improvements.   As do most of our kids.

Unfortunately I can point to a similar moment out on the southern wing with a completely different result. GWS were taking the ball from the city end of the ground towards Punt Road and had the ball defensive side of the centre. Trac was either ball-watching and/or lazy and left too far a gap between him and his man, allowing GWS to kick over his head to the guy he was marking. He was the one weak link in a team of Demons leaving GWS with nowhere to go.

Our underperformance of the last 12 years has bred an expectation or need for success and thus a need for every player to be the next Judd. Completely understandable just not feasible.

I’m not sure which moment this was, but there was one where he missed it by a bees willy coming back for the intercept or spoil. From this I’d suggest (as most players on the first line often are) is to leave a space that encourages the kick but can most likely close it down, trying to create the turnover. His strength would not be playing back shoulder in a zone but pushing back or forward to intercept. When it doesn’t come off it opens, but it happened once with Clayton Oliver as well and I’m sure by going through actual footage multiple options are given like this, but the turnovers created are often dangerous.

Gee a mountain too climb wow once they get there we will be unbeatable. Which young played need to climb that mountain, by your post you would think we are bottom 4.

I know he does a few lazy things, but you know what, he aint alone.

I watched several players today, and in many other games, do the same.

There was a goal in the second quarter where GWS got a free kick in the middle and ran forward, and you can see all our mids lagging behind, letting shiel and others run forward unmarked to hit a leading forward. You can see Oliver slowly running behind letting him go.

I doubt we are all lambasting Clayton for that.

I know the others may be more consistent, but I feel so many people look to see what players are doing wrong, and forgive others for doing the same thing.

Petracca played a very good game yesterday, in the part of the game when it needed to be won, not the final quarter when the game was done.

He WILL be a gun. He DOES need to do some extra work on and off the track, but lets look at what he does well, and if he is currently our 10th - 15th player picked, that is bloody great for us!

On a seperate note, for those saying how great De Goey is, what were they saying at the start of this year about him??? It doesnt take a lot for it to click, and it WILL click for Petracca.

He's like a puppy. He gets far too excited and far too cocky sometimes, running around frantically then finding himself completely exhausted and unable to make the next contest. I have no doubt that his lack of engine is a big part of why he plays so little midfield minutes. 

He has good skills and good strengths. I think he isn't the best decision maker and that really hurts, especially when he's trying to hit a target inside 50, and he is not very accountable.

He is just really frustrating, and his goal kicking is a massive liability for someone who spends so much time up forward. 

I think he can absolutely improve and get better, but he needs to do it quickly because eventually the "I'm Petracca pick 2" tickets will run out.

His game against the Giants was the perfect exhibition of the good and bad Petracca.

He's too much of a hero at times. A lot of his kicks were those dinky, fancy kicks and often they're too aspirational. He'll lack intensity and fail to cover territory to tackle or lock down space. But then he'll attack the contest and scare opponents with his strength and intensity. He's got a nice vertical leap and can take a solid overhead mark. 

So there's good and bad there. But ultimately, he's a much better player when he does the simple things well. With the right development he'll become an important player. Fortunately, we have a good development team.

For what's worth I get more frustrated with Melksham and I really rate him as a forward.

Have a feeling the name ‘ Dominator’ might pop up again.

He is immature, he will either grow up and become a better decision maker, or he won't.

I think he will.

Petracca's ability to close down space, pressure and win the ball in 1 v 2 and 1 v 3 situations is the most exciting part of his impressive form over the past month or two. He also never loses his feet.

I am extremely pleased, and relieved, at the moment.

 

But I am not satisfied with the level we currently play at.  

I suggest your easily satisfied, going by your tone, judgements, and your words.

 

I am just getting a taste, and am very hungry...   nae 'bloodthirsty' hungry.

 

Individual's improvement is a must, or we will stall.

Agree here. I thought we hit them hard at every opportunity. 

With Trac I believe he is a confidence player and yesterday's game will do him the world of good. Can excuse some basic errors. Just think he will take a game by the throat very soon and trust it is Friday week.
