If there's a Freo player to target to get cheaply to play it role it might be Tom Sheridan on a wing. Former first round pick and a very good runner who hasn't kept a consistent spot in the team. He'd be a buy low candidate.

So we want him but he's not available. Landfill journalism from Fox.

Wont have the required draft currency till next year anyway, so unless we are happy to give them one of our good players, i cant see it happening this year. No harm in openly targeting players from a long way out though. It worked for us with Lever.

I love the way we are run these days.

What a huge difference a few wins makes. Add increased skills and a much more positive supporter confidence and you've got, for the first time in years, a 'destination' club. We can attract 'top' players, the likes of Gaff and Sloane who would slot straight into the team.

Gone are the days of hoping we can 'jag' a couple of 'depth' players at other clubs who might, but probably won't, cut the mustard.

We are joining the Geelongs and Hawthorns who couldn't care less about the annual draft and who have simply waited for 'lesser' clubs to develop young talent before plundering them.

How sweet it is!

Would he even get a game in our best 22? Never heard of him either

Easily, especially with Lewis and Vince likely done at seasons end.

Go read the Dockers forum -  they are in love with Langdon and want him signed to a long term extension ASAP.

Hes one of their few bright spots.

Had hoped we might grab him in his draft year, but Oscar ended up still being on the board at pick 53 (Oscar was potentially a 2nd rounder, thought that the Bulldogs might grab him earlier). Can't really fault our selections in 2014, but sounds like Taylor really liked Langdon as well.

A small forward who was projected to move into midfield, looks like he's developing into the player we hoped JKH might become

He's a good player Chaser J and developing very nicely at Peel during 2015-16 and shows very promising signs at AFL level over last 2 years plus last season's WAFL finals

Big fan. Creative forward who can play midfield link role.  Good skills. Draft bargain at pick 54 in his draft year.

At Melbourne I feel like we have enough of those types of players. On form, we have the best in the competition.

Um, I read their BF forum and all I saw was how to work Hogan or Brayshaw in to a trade. Their views aren’t worth squat.

An expression of interest over a longer time is healthy recruiting when availability is not current. Heard about this fella; it seems like he is a pretty tasty recruit and one whom we should watch for, as long as it takes. We are always going to need good disposers of the football from those with reputations of 'outside running'.

I heard Jake Lever say in an interview that Jason Taylor and Todd Viney were into him for about 18 months before he signed with us. He was impressed by their determination, persistence and confidence that he was the right person to target.

We loved Jake in his draft year, and clearly we didn't lose his number after the Crows drafted him. I like how our recruiting team maintain contact with these guys even if they end up elsewhere.

Shows the importance in building and maintaining relationships.

Won't have the draft currency next year either. That's the cost of throwing away this year's first rounder on Lever. It costs us this year and also stops us from trading it away next year. We have to use next year's first rounder as it's our last chance to satisfy the requirement to use a first rounder every four years. So we have to use ours next year can't trade it away.

True that.

Who are the free agents at the end of next season then? (to go with whoever we snag this year lol)

Unfortunately we'll have to accept using pick 18 then

Most noteworthy are Dylan Shiel, Stephen Coniglio, Nick Haynes, Steven May, Lachie Neale & Robbie Gray who are all RFA's.

Jack Martin also comes out of contract, but would be a year short of free agency under current rules. Would love the club to have a crack at bringing him to Melbourne.

Interesting and can confirm we were up to our eyeballs in this kid. Taylor called him on the night to apologise he wasn’t going to be a Dee because Oscar dropped to us. We had ANB and Oscar much higher on our draft board than where we drafted them and Ed was pretty sure he was going to be a Dee with pick 53. Don’t know if he’s keen to come back but apparently he ‘understood’ our decision. Hope that insight helps.

Good, watching him now and he would be perfect for us.   A great compliment to our midfield.

It will be interesting too see where Angus Brayshaw is with his contract status with the Dees.

I have heard he is linked to the Dockers. Interesting we are into Langdon...

It’s not that interesting; there is absolutely zero chance Brayshaw goes to Freo. More chance of us getting Andrew here than Angus going there, and even then that’s remote.

So you are going to pay out the last year of Lewis' contract?

Bernie Vince hasn't missed a game

Nobody has heard of him before because 4 yrs down the track he is now playing consistent footy

A popular bloke on a fan forum is no recommendation

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
