Norf can now commence Operation Get Kelly for next years trade period.

And Kelly can commence Operation Get Extra Zero on Contact before Saying No, No, No to North.

As if Gaff was ever going to come to us on 750k when 1.2mil was on offer.

Exactly, money was the only reason for his move not success.Basically the average Aussie wage is around 100k & if we were all offered 150k to change jobs we would nearly all do it.

Reports suggesting hes staying at Egirls.

Bad luck Norf

No other way to spin that than hugely embarrassing for North.

I think Brad Scott has got a log to do with it. One of the last coaches you’d want to play under.

This has got me completely stuffed. Surely you play footy for the success? If you are a Gaff standard player then you will have a choice of good clubs whose lists are primed for success. If it comes down to the dollars then pick the one who has the most room in their cap.

I get if you are a Tyson or Kent grade player then your options will be limited, fair enough you have fewer choices and go where you can.  For Gaff, however, he has actively chosen a Club that plays predominantly in Tassie or at Etihad. They have an average list and a crap jumper (admittedly I probably place more importance on this than he does) and he will rarely play in front of large crowds (think of all the times our players have mentioned when interviewed the 90,000+ crowds - the joy in Harmesy voice when talking about getting stuck into Selwood on the Members wing in the elinination final). Gaff can forget about all that.

Most importantly though can anyone see Nth challenging for a flag in the near future? To me it's madness that he has chosen them

Same as why any player up until this year has chosen to come to us or why a player like Judd goes to Carlton,Ablett to Suns etc. They were never going to win flags or even play finals but at the end of the day retiring from Footy with a little medallion but half the wage you could of made changes lots of things.$750k with us & still no guarantee of a flag or 1.2mill with North but with a less chance of a flag would be an easy choice in my eyes.I work for money & thats the case with these guys in the current AFL climate.

Did anyone see Richmond or Collingwood challenging for a flag?

Forward line - Ben Brown, Ziebell, Simpkin, Mason Wood and some assorted smalls, far from the worst

Backline - Tarrant, big Majak, Thompson, Wright, Macmillan, McDonald, Marley Williams - that's not bad

Midfield - Goldy might have a couple of years left. Cunnington and Higgins are A graders. Gaff joins them. Polec on the wing. Lots of depth with Ahern, Anderson, Dumont, Hall. Might be missing a true superstar but weren't the Eagles?

Richmond might be a super team next year, they were pretty close this year, otherwise there won't be anyone at the heights Geelong, Sydney or Hawthorn have been recently. No reason North can't finish top 4.

I'd love to play for a big club at the MCG most weeks. But I doubt the Pies wanted him, the Tigers couldn't fit him in, the Hawks might be more stuck in no mans land than the Roos and if Melbourne offered me 750k and had to trade for me compared to 1.1-1.2M at the Roos sadly I'd go the Roos.

Same here,id take 1.2mill at Norths over 750k at Dees without even a second to think about it.They will lift a few spots, maybe between 6-8 on the ladder & to be honest we will probably only be around that 4-6 spot & if Gawn went down we wouldn't even make the 8.

Gaff’s manager stated the Eagles were 200-300k per season off the mark. They must have increased their offer overnight. I wonder if this will be at the expense of Tim Kelly.

So Gaff looks like staying at WC and North Melbourne miss out AGAIN on a player which they offered huge money to .

This is hilarious.

North couldn’t attract fly if they had sheet on their hands. Lol lol lol.

Yeah, what would he know.

Not saying i don't believe you ProDee as this is what you have been told & either way it doesnt bother me if he comes or not......but Player Managers rank = with Lawyers for being lying, manipulating dog's & no Manager has ever been honest. He couldn't care what position Gaff plays he wants his cut of the deal so will always push to the highest bidder.I mean i donr even trust Mahoney wuth what he says at the moment because its all a game.Im also on the side of thinking that when Jones was interviewed the other night he knew exactly what was going on with Hogan,i mean in that position he would be all over it.

Which we all hope ends in the exact same way all their other desperate bids have.

Have we chased big name players over consecutive years only to be constantly turned down? North were even chasing De Goey this season before he re-signed.

Bugger them, sucked in Norf.

Now all we need is for the dees to get the 2 first rounders from freo for hogan.  Use one on Steven may, and the other on gaff and we're laughing.

I dont really see it as good news if true, aside from lolnorf meme value. NM now have 1.2m for josh Kelly offer and WCE added gaff to a team capable of dominating a grand final

Same boat as you.WC will be Premiership favourites next year now with Gaff & keeps them stronger than us.I would of rathered WC be weakened & North to blow their salary cap

Polec hasn't officially signed with Nought yet has he?

Wonder if the Gaff decision makes him rethink venturing to them as well!

Yeah, nice post. Perhaps unfortunately, I don’t see the world in black and white.

But I understand that many in Kansas do.

To assess Gaff’s entire character and personality on that one incident, is the very reason we no longer endorse public lynching as a society, even though many rednecks would love to have it back.

It seems that Andrew Brayshaw has forgiven him - good on you for continuing to hold the grudge though.

Well i agree on 1 point but not another. To me big deal he punched someone & it doesnt change my thinking of him.Flip side id love public lynching to be bought back,we are too soft now on the scum of this country.

I'd be making calls if I was in the MFC recruiting staff.

There was zero reason for him not to be honest in the forum he was in.

But look mate, believe what you want.

Good for Andrew. I think he had all but decided to go to North but seeing his team mates win a premiership and the love he got from Adam Simpson after his terrible mistake meant he was willing to take less money and stay in Perth away from his family. I think the delay in making the decision was probably related to his fathers health. Heart scares can often resolve themselves after a couple of months.

Anyway, I'll enjoy laughing at North a bit and hope they spend all their money keeping our competition honest by upping bids for their players and not ours!

When you've been around here for a while you get to know who to listen to and who is connected.

For example, in this thread alone ...

@ProDee knows Paul Connors so you can take his input on this to the bank

@Baghdad Bob knows Craig Cameron so you can take his references to the bank also

Neither of them speak out of turn or break confidences.

I’m a little surprised it took the Melbourne media 18 hours to confirm he was staying out at the Eagles.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
