Casey get a few last quarter consolation goals after the Cats rested a few guns, but Geelong hand Casey their first lost at home in over 15 games winning 12-12-84 to 9-8-62

Must've been a hungry team of cats, to get a call up after their seniors didnt show up in the first and last quarters. Our senior 22 i would assume will settle for another 2+ games with what should be a winnable month ahead, so perhaps a little flat in comparison?

Disappointed with Jeffy no goals and not in the possessions he never seems to play well at VFL level.

Sounds like the Smith's played well at least Tim did.

Another disappointing effort by the Dees they were never in it.

We won't be a premiership threat until we have between 16 to 18 Melbourne listed players at VFL level.

That is the problem. We have to many VFL standard players and not good VFL players at that. Until we can get some real depth with players pushing the AFL team we will continue to be a middle range team. Those people saying the likes of Stretch, Bugg, Pederson etc. are AFL players are kidding themselves. They and others at Casey should be dominating if they think they can be good AFL players. Pedo does it one week and goes missing the next. Not good enough.The list needs are a huge turnover to get more kids  with class into Casey and develop them and only hope the 25 players of AFL ability we have can remain fit and healthy for a couple of years. Have a look at the outs at Geelong and they still win easily.Not good signs for us at moment.

Don't disagree with the thrust of that, but it's worth bearing in mind that we now have quite a few out or unavailable (Kent, Maynard, Viney, Vandenburg, Petracca even players like Wagner) who have shown something at AFL level, at least occasionally.

So yes, we have 25 or so decent AFL players, just not all at the moment.

who wins and loses at VFL level is not that important any more. Mind you I love a nice day watching the VFL team playing well.

In the 90's and in other eras we had wonderful reserve teams but it didn't help us at the next level. Can even remember times in the early '80's when we won under 19 grand finals and were in reserve finals and we know where that took us.

More importantly pick 6-8 players and ask are they improving.. sadly we know what the answer is.

So much for our so-called depth. Take our bottom 4 or 5 AFL 22 and Casey might be competitive

Found some time at work so here we go.

As mentioned, Geelong managed to beat Casey at home which the last 15 teams haven't been able to do. They dominated the first 3 and a half quarters and just pulled the trigger in the last quarter but otherwise were very impressive. Their structures just out did Casey on every line but especially the back. The were able to multiple times have players out the back sweep onto contests or get the rebound all game. Casey couldn't handle it especially with a few of the MFC players going missing. As for the individual players-

 Stretch- Had a few touches but his disposal efficiency was horrible

Frost- Solid without being great, broke the lines a few times

Pedo- Our only real hit up target when going forward but dropped a lot of marks, lifted in the last quarter around the ball

JKH- Probably the worst game I've seen him play in a while, barely touched the ball

Garlett- Started strong but went missing. Did 1 or 2 nice things up forward but otherwise not good

Johnstone- I had high hopes for him but his start to this season has been bad. Didn't do anything at all.

T.Smith- Casey's best. Played a lot on the ball but his tackling pressure was outstanding, might have earned himself a call up next week.

J.Smith- Was good, did a few nice things with the ball but didn't have a lot of aerial presence which is usually his strong suit

Keilty- Better then last week but made a few costly errors. Had a couple of nice spoils and tackles but he is struggling to find form after succumbing to a couple of injuries late into the preseason 

Petty- Again better then last week but still has a lot to work on, nice couple of defensive marks though

Baker- Was pushed forward early and did pretty well, kicked a couple of goals.

Bugg- Started okay but I barely noticed him, still carrying an injury from last week I beleive

As for the Casey boys Wagner was impressive, might find himself back onto an AFL list in a year or two, Goy Lok had an outstanding second half and was Caseys only good option going forward for a period, and Angus Scott played well.

Good news is Jack Hutchins the skipper will be playing local footy this weekend with Caseys Bye and should be back for the next game

Playing up forward if by chance Weid has a quiet game or is rested, or as a half forward/mid if called up?

its a shame Johnstone was such a bust, the decision to draft him was really a curveball and could be been better used on a luke Ryan or a Ryan garthwaite. just sick of the club wasting draft picks for spuds

Probably similar to how Trac goes from Midfield to deep forward, expect Bull would play more FWD then MID

Casey listed Myers, 203cm, with chop outs from Pedo and even Frost a couple of times.

Zac Smith played Ruck/FWD for Geelong and absolutely dominated. Crashed a few packs up forward and I doubt he lost 1 hit out.

Sad state of affairs at Casey by Melb listed players last two weeks, alarming, especially if we get more injuries in the seniors. Not too many positives and Tim Smith isn’t the answer as much as I like him.

JKH has been a major disappointment.. last year he was a ball magnet and was dominating at VFL level.  Now he can barely get a touch. 

Tim Smith is interesting.. named on the extended bench and then goes out and gets BOG. Will surely come into consideration next week .

Garlett is a down hill skier. He goes missing too much and can't be relied upon. It's hard to build a reliable team around unreliable players. I hope to see the club address this in the off season among our other list needs.

Every club does. You can’t pick 4-5 players a season who all make it every year, it’s impossible.
