Didn’t he do 100*100s on Christmas Day? Does it each year from memory.

They've been doing it for years and it means nothing.

He was at the rear of all the off season running sessions.  He's a mile of Petracca's fitness.

Hugely disappointing to read this

Nothing beats match fitness.  He's now had runs in the JLT and a few at Casey, so I suspect it's at AFL level, but he's well behind the better runners at AFL level.

He did but it can be hard to maintain motivation when you are consistently left out of the side..not sure what the issues are but I'd be confident he knows what they are..

He will play Tyson out Gus in,hunt might come in for frost, but frost played well so I have no idea, but like for like Gus in for Tyson.

Hypothetically - IF he sought a trade at the end of the year what would we want for him? I'd be wanting a mid-late 1st round pick but other clubs probably would be looking at a late 2nd rounders. Depends who was interested I guess.

for who? OMc, Brayshaw,

I’d have had Brayshaw in the side over ANB, Melksham and Tyson for any of the rounds so far.

Cearly there’s something more than ‘form’ that we’re not privy to.

ANB and Melksham have been seriously underwhelming to date. And Tyson hasn’t been much better imo.

Yet none of them have been dropped.

could this be anything ?   http://demonland.com/forums/topic/38013-angus-brayshaw-signs-contract-extension-till-2018/

maybe he has to decide what he wants.  I have no inside info on this, but I wonder, also.

Lyon says melbourne "needs to explain"... err no they dont.

And the last time you got involved in the club dipstick you helped set us back 8 years.

Gary Lyon is an all-time great of the MFC and he can errrr, say what he likes.

Gus is a massive upgrade on Tyson IMO. Its a good IN if it turns out that way this weekend.

I respect Brayshaw. I personally would have given up playing with all those concussions, but he has stuck to his guns, and from all reports has adjusted his game (to minimise the chance of concussion). Was in the bests for Casey so deserves his spot. I hope he does well.

Me 'Gus, what's the go, why aren't you in the side?'

Gus 'form'

Me 'that's it, so like the rest you have to bang the door diwn at training and Casey'

Gus 'yep'

There is no conspiracy, they have been building him up, once a player gets on the field, they want them fit and in form, with Gus' history they are being extra diligent

It is utter rubbish that he has looked disinterested and not fit

All is well with Angus they are just easing him in and could be playing this week. Remember came back from concussion late last season and had an excellent game from the hbf against St Kilda. Has  Quality and class written all over.

After viewing the Picken injury several times tonight, i'm initially surprised but glad that Gus has the nod from the Club to make his presence felt at the main game this Sunday. He is one of my favourite players, and as with the Picken lad, he deserves only our best wishes for their footy futures.

Building him up for....  Fitness? Confidence?

So....he wasn’t fit?

Is it utter rubbish? It must be, because he told you.

Saty make your mind up. In the JLT you used Goodwins generic quote to back your view that Brayshaw was in good form and deserving of a place in our round 1 team.

You followed this up by using his wisdom teeth as a reason for his inability to get a place in the round 1 team.

Can you now admit his form was poor in JLT 1 and not as good as expected?

I think what might be the source of Gaddy's angst is that players no longer get picked on reputation or draft position.

It's no longer possible for a Hollywood boulevard style clique to get set up in the club and that must rile him no end.

Garry made a playing contribution to the club and, on field, was one of its best on field leaders. However, while it has been a while, as @jnrmac said, he and his mates put the club on it's arze. I know it's his job to comment on footy matters but as a club supporter who lived through the 'red and blueprint' and then 'reality bus' eras, it can be pretty galling to hear him.

If we start getting media comment about how 'we need more Melbourne people around the club', then batten down the hatches.

Perhaps you get distracted at training or your hair gets in your eyes, but it's not in question that he's been near last in endurance running during the off-season.

He's obviously match fit now (to at least get selected), but his two way running needs to get much much better.  One questions whether he's been doing all of the extras that some players do.

As an aside @Satyriconhome were you clued in to the location of the secret training session yesterday?

Incorrect.  Multiple posters have claimed he has an attitude problem and has looked disinterested.  Why would they lie?  Are they all in on the conspiracy?

No the wisdom tooth issue came at completely the wrong time, when he still wasn't picked I asked, as above, he dropped a bit of form, so Casey to build it back

Not sure which bit you are not getting with Goodwin, if Gus' fitness was below the expected standard, he would be on bench at Casey or rehab group

He has to earn his spot and he can do that by being consistant at Casey and doing everything right at training.

Not overly difficult to understand.

Err, I think there is a distinct case to be made that the balance of the team is not quite right yet. Max is being run into the ground, and we all know what happened last time we did that - he missed 10 weeks and the decision was directly responsible for our missing the finals.

Our forward line is also undersized. It is ok against mediocre sides like Brisbane and Norf, but it will be cruelly exposed when we come up against the top 4.

Also, I don’t think either Harmes or Neal-Bullen are up to the required standard to play finals, particularly when Viney and McDonald come back. Brayshaw is, but he needs game time.

Hence for me this week we need Weideman to strengthen our forward set up and relief ruck. I saw him on Sunday for Casey and he not only kicked five goal, he also looked like a natural in the ruck. The club also announced Brayshaw to be best on ground.

For me, we would be a very much better side if we included the Weid and Brayshaw for Harmes and Neal-Bullen.

In the longer term, it will be interesting when McDonald and Viney return. My prediction we will put McDonald back to the back line and have Hogan and Weid upforward at the expense of Frost. Viney at the expense of either Bugg or Fritsch.

Obviously, everything will depend on form, but these changes make us look very much like a top two side. Exciting!!

For me.....Harmes brings toughness.

Fritz the cat is in form.

Mellksham and ANB are the players to make way. Yes Gus should play but its  not automatic.  Plenty of players too choose from. For me Pedo is a definate over Weid.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
