Hogan's Engine

The story of the season so far for us.

I knew he was a good guy runner but like Dermie I was staggered on Sat.

"Like Dermie"...yuk.

Whose our tall forward while he's playing midfield? Until Tmac comes back it's Trac. Not ideal. We can get away with it against lowly clubs, not against the better clubs.

Jesse's work rate was extraordinary on Saturday. There are times he needs to play from the goal square, and times he needs to play up the ground. We are very lucky that he is so capable at both, however we definitely need another big body up forward when Jesse is not there.

I don't sugarcoat things with demons. I'm harsh, much like a proud dad is harsh when he coaches his own kids... So I'll be harsh and glass-half-empty on Hogan.

He'll be better than Daniher.

He already is.

As of last 3 rounds, sure. But in the wider football world Daniher has more runs on the board. I already had him as the better player, but I wouldn't argue the point with opposition supporters on who is better as of round 1 this season. Daniher was amazing last year. Hogan will be amazing this year. From 2019 onwards, it won't be just us on here saying Jesse's better.

Where do you place Lynch?

Miss? Handball in the square? Smile when his team's getting pumped? I'm intrigued.

Top of the tall forward tree.

I reckon so. I'm not saying Hogan couldn't reel him in one day. But as of right now he's the most sought after KP forward going round not named Buddy.

I thought he meant Neale or Terry ...

From Saturday's game onward, Hogan has the unique ability to morph himself into one of Melbourne's most dynamic players of this modern era.

(God, i love that phrase when it pertains to our player).................but for Christ's sake don't tell him or the mediums.

It’s actually happening.

Our young super stars are actually living  up to their potential .

Hogan, Oliver and Petracca are becoming elite match winners for us.

Throw in the number one Ruck-man in the comp in Gawny and one of the very best small forwards in Jeffy, and it starts to come together.

Just need Hibberd , Lever and Hunt to get close their best and it’ll be strap yourselves in for the ride!

The perfect shape, skills and pace to be a damaging midfielder

Will tie with Clarrie for the Brownlow

He's a Bull, in a mid-sized china-shop.

Let him run rampant in that bull ring, and then he can rest up forward.

When the Bull rests, let the Tracta pull the load.

Add Clarrie ball magnet, & Viney the pig-dog, and we have a heap of grunt.

Send in some pace and the World just keeps a turning.

Do not forget Viney. He is a gun clearance player and runner!

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
