trout 385 Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Some interesting opinions on this topic. I will admit I really like SEN have listened too it since Gary, Billy and Tim kicked it off many years ago now. I can't believe the way they have treated Marko and the Ox just seems bizarre not to let them say good bye to their listeners. While i am a fan of the station the current direction and decisions and fill in hosts are making it hard to stay tuned. It may as well be called AFL Radio, talk about over saturation. I can't believe they don't cover any live cricket not even sure they still do any Soccer. If KB retires the station will be stuffed. Quote

It's a pretty common practice across all fields. It's not that they think you will sabotage the place, it's that in those 4 weeks you can gather some pretty good intel to take to a competitor. And you add that to a booting... well, it's a lot safer to pay them out than have them around. It's a sad fact, but a true one, that business is not run on feelings. It's run on what is good for the business, and feelings be damned. People come and people go, but the business lives on. Two problems with that scenario when it comes to Ox. First, he was being fired. To be turfed out that way is rubbing salt into the wounds. In the situation you bought up, you were resigning. Secondly, it does depend on your line of work. You are correct in that blokes who work in law, sales and other fields do get that treatment if they are retrenched or resign. In other fields, you can be forced to sign a non compete clause if you sell a business or a non disclosure agreement (which can lead you to being sued should you break either). Realistically though, what intel could Ox have smuggled out of there? He was on the presentation side of things and I don’t know how much he would know about advertising deals, HR or contracts. Quote

If it wasn't a former MFC champion we wouldn't be having this discussion. The few times I turned them on their inane, childish and uninteresting topics of conversation were interspersed between long segments of advertisements. Having said that, the method of their dismissal was disgusting. Quote

La Dee-vina Comedia 17,137 Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Those of us who remember the Truth newspaper know that it was a shocker. But it's hardly surprising when you read this entry in Wikipedia about its proprietor, John Norton. And we think the politicians of today leave something to be desired! (It will take 5-10 minutes to read the entry...but it's worth it. Particularly the reference to his "performance" in the NSW Parliament.) Quote
