Up to you.

I'm not invested in your emotions either way.

Two pick 10s for Lever ?  You wouldn't hesitate to get a proven 21 year into your club.  He's worth at least pick one, if not more.

Some bleat and all I think about is Lever, Hogan, Petracca, Viney, Oliver, Brayshaw, Hunt, and Salem growing together.  We're the envy of the competition yet some can't see past losing a probable pick next year in the teens.  I'm glad I'm wired differently to some of you.

These two will be happy to be on the same side.

You are clearly incapable of being able to separate getting Lever and being able to judge whether it was a good deal or not.

You are like someone who buys a car from a dealer for $10,000 when you only have $1000 because he offers you finance and you only have to start paying next year. Then next year comes and you're in shock when the first bill comes. The fact is we were always getting Lever, they just gave in and gave away our first rounder next year. Calling people bleating and others babies because they are capable of seeing the difference doesn't reflect on us it reflects on you. Shame people can't express different opinions on this forum without others resorting to denegration when they don't agree.

You nailed it ! No one is saying they don't want Lever so espousing his attributes is just appealing to the masses.

No, he's like someone that just bought a $10k car for $11k.  Paid more than what redbook estimated it at, but got the deal done nonetheless.

And to keep the car analogy going, have a look on redbook, then have a look on carsales.  There are many cars sold on carsales where the buyer paid more than what redbook suggests.  I'm sure both buyer and seller are happy in that case.

You need to get over it.

Chazz not sure why he needs to get over anything. Some dislike when other disagree and start to imply things about that other person personality as a consequence. He has made a fair point that we paid overs and you are essentially agreeing with him given your analogy. So there is no disagreement

Ah now I've got it, we woud have traded Jack Watts for a 2008 Commodore?

That is great news...

I think we may be looking at something associated with the redevelopment of the rail yards along with the whole sporting complex in the area. Maybe wishful thinking on my part but the closer to our home ground the better...

Anywho - Assuming PJ was transparent about only 1 team wanting Jack - for his sake(if he wants to pursue being a footballer - (as there are plenty who are genetically gifted, but don't/didnt like the lifestyle) - I hope that reality check is useful for him, that he could now potentially be out of AFL land...

I get the "finger pointers" argument.  I get that you think we didn't play hard or hold our nerve.  It's such a simple argument how could anyone not "get" it or separate it ?  My delusional Brother won't move on either.  He's boring me to tears.

What you seemingly don't get is that I let the cobbler's cobble.  I'm not privy to every decision they make and I'm not going to second guess why they didn't play harder.  Maybe it was a sign of good faith to Jake to get it done quickly in a trade they deemed fair.  Maybe they wanted to keep their good reputation to get deals done.  Maybe they couldn't be certain how things would pan out if Adelaide didn't blink and other permutations came into play.

But guess what ?  I DON'T CARE.  I'm not paid to do their job.

I think the deal is fair, for reasons I've already outlined, and I've moved beyond the cost price.

Naturally, you can please yourself.

As for your personal remarks...

It's my opinion that some are "bleating".  If you find that offensive you're a snowflake.  It's just my opinion.  It's a word.  How it can offend you is extraordinary.

I haven't used the term "babies", so you're incorrectly aligning that to my postings.

Yes they are thick here Barney, I am sitting under the desk.

Leaving the jokes aside I think there is a chance that the Pies will move back to Vic. Park.

That would leave us the Yarra site we should have taken a decade ago.

That is actually a great option. Vic park is their spiritual home, will never be built over, they play their VFL games and has infrastructure to build on. Plus it would be a great resource for a booming area in the way Arden Street is (eg public gym, community activity spaces, local sporting groups etc) The state and yarra governments would probably even chip in.

We move into the old glass house precinct, smack bang in the middle of our our spiritual home the MCG and surrounding parkland. And we a beaut spot for pre and post training and games beers

Both clubs win.

He needs to get over it because the deal is done, he wasn't privy to any of the discussions had between the clubs, and there's not a thing he can do about the whole situation.  His, and your, continual negative discussion on it is tiresome, and mostly, unsubstantiated.

And do I think we paid overs?  No doubt I would've liked to have kept our first rounder next year, but I'm more happy about having Lever on our books this year, than an unknown next year.  Not only that, I expect us to be pushing finals in 2018, which Lever will greatly assist with.  Rd 1 pick 2018 would be 3+ years away before making a significant impact on out flag aspirations.  Lever will do it next year, and for the 10 after that.

Why do we go on about it, well its the same reason we all post on here. Its to put an opinion forward as do the pro 'Lever trade deal posters' that think we paid fair value.

PS. Round 1 pick next year would be traded for an established player not a youngster. Many have missed this point.

Well founded logic! All the comments here are opinions like yours below. Do you have a source to say we are going to the draft with that pick to get a youngester

"Rd 1 pick 2018 would be 3+ years away before making a significant impact on out flag aspirations" ?

My favourite bit of PJs comments was when he said that Jack Watts will always be a Melbourne person. It may not have been intended, but it was as if he was telling Port Adelaide that they'd contracted a mercenary who will never fully commit to his new club.

If you want an insight to Lever read this excellent article by Emma Quayle back in 2014.

It shows his determination, his leadership, his preparation, his drive, and his competitiveness.

We've got a guy with the same type of steely resolve as Viney joining the club.  They've already had a boxing session in Richmond together.  What price do you put on an individual with these traits ?

Anyone have any idea how important Luke Hodge was to Hawthorn's success ?  It's guys like Viney and Lever that help clubs become great.

Well Tilly,

The HQ he refers to is not just an Admin building. It's the whole box and dice. Football, Training, Gym, Pool, Medical, Admin and Social Club. Jolimont terrace wouldn't house a 1/4 of the staff needed to run a football club.

Listen to PJ. he was the one who called it a greenfield site I presume he was referring to Barassi park under the Bolte Bridge.

Toorak Park is not the CBD, PJ was referring to. And not what you call close to the MCG

there is a shyte load of space over the railway lines, close to cbd and mcg precinct. just put the rail lines underground via cut and fill

I would have thought every kid named Jake would have the nickname "Snake". I know we regularly refer to Melksham as "Milkshake" but I wonder whether his real nickname is also "Snake". Anyone know?

No need to "cut and fill" Just cover.

And while they're at it, join it with Richmond Station so users of that facility can cross over Brunton Avenue without putting a foot on the bitumen.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.
