MISSED OPPORTUNITY

 

After an injury riddled 2016, the diminutive Kennedy-Harris had to work hard to break into the Melbourne team and, while he was an often prolific ball-winner at VFL level, he was unable to replicate that form when given a chance. He missed his biggest opportunity when he was at the peak of his form at Casey and incurred the wrath of the club for drinking after a game in contravention of a team rule.

We should have rescinded his new contract after he was banned. It was a pathetic way to repay the club for the faith shown in him.

A player of his limited skill set (small, slow, average skills) needs to be absolutely manic in his attack at the football. JKH isn't, and on that basis I'm not sure what he offers coming into his fifth year on the list.

Had a good look at him this year both in the seniors & at Casey & can't see him making the grade.

Had opportunities in the VFL finals but looked very ordinary.

Reminds me of ANB in 2016. Often amassed huge numbers in the VFL but was unable to replicate it in the seniors. 

Hopefully next year, we see Jay take the step that ANB (who was more than handy at times during 2017) took this year.

I don't get to watch any VFL football but many reports had him playing a very productive role as an inside mid in the second half of the year.  Those people who did see may be able to shed more light on his contract extension and possible role in the seniors, but I'm at a bit of a loss on this one...

 

We have extractors. We need skilled outside mids.

I just don't think Jay has what we need.

JKH first couple of years were injury riddled

This year was about getting him on the park consistently, like Trengove

1 year contract like Trengove, out the    door if he doesn't crack AFL side

 

Gets caught all the time and disposal is shoddy.

Not a fan.

In traditional football probably not but in the Tiger/Bulldogs style perhaps he has a place.

Seems to lack that time and space not to mention ball finding ability at AFL level.

Have watched him several times at VFL level and he brings a high degree of energy and enthusiasm to his game which is great to see.

Will he ever be a Lambert/Castegna/D Rioli/Butler type player? Because thats what we need.

 

 

His not up to AFL standards. Everytime he gets a game at seniors he looks lost out there. As far as the VFL yes he gets allot of the ball but he does nothing with it.

Well no, I'm just speculating that that is a position he may need to fill, as I don't see him as part of the midfield at the moment.

 

 

I’m another who found it unfathomable that he got a new deal

Can’t kick, not quick, sloppy disposal - I fail to see any upside whatsover

He will need to show a helluva lot more in 2018 to justify his spot on the list

I actually think he's a smart player that can read the play well, but crumbles a bit under pressure and rushes his disposal. Maybe it's just me but there's something about him. Let's not forget that Jetta was similarly ineffective in his first few years. I think he's worth keeping around for a while longer. He's depth at best but imo he brings more than Kent.

Not enough endeavor from such a talented player

Dismal effort against the Hawks early in the year saw him sent back to Casey, but I thought his 3 games later in the year offered a bit.

He knows where the ball is going and knows how to link up.

Size and speed limitations mean he's a high half forward/midfielder and not that kind of forward pressure or goal kicker some have imagined at times.

If he can nail his kicks under pressure he'll stay on the list for longer. We'll see if the balance, composure and calmness to hang in with heat coming his way develops in preseason.

seems like a nice guy, but we don't need anymore of those.. doesn't offer anything to our list. might be good at another club?

The FD think different, have spoken to him, knows exactly what he needs to do this year, if he doesn't he is out the door

In last final, went to half back and was instrumenta in getting Casey back in game

its one thing knowing what you have to do to improve, its another actually being capable of doing it. and one thing to do it at VFL level, AFL is another can or baked beans.. don't think its gonna happen mate!

All well and good at magoos

 He imho, is simply not equipped with sufficient of anything to make an impact atAFL level. Hes a good player in some respects  , just not good enough. That's no sleight on him, hundreds ,ne thousands aren't.

Where is there a position for him and who would he beat to it ?Its a question for all players really.

Sometimes things are just what they are.

JKH is a player of reasonable potential. I have no doubt he can make the grade, in fact, I expect him to make the grade in 2018. He is smart on the inside, and creates opportunities. I would be surprised if he didn't make it.

It's also true of this site that players are written off and then surprise, ANB Jetta and Hunt being 3 in recent times

JKH has a preseason to impress and get into the AFL side and stay there
