IRON DOM TYSON

An important and often damaging, hard at it midfielder with good hands, Tyson's ball use by foot was however, criticised at times during the year. He injured his knee in the game against Sydney and missed a few games as a result. That injury could not have come at a worse time with club losing Jack Viney in the same game with Nathan Jones, Jack Watts, Jeff Garlett and Christian Salem already out due to injury at that stage of the season.

I don't quite understand the animosity towards Tyson on this board. That said, whilst his best football is undoubtedly very good, his worst can be pretty ordinary.

The bigger issue is our lack of midfield depth. Tyson sits behind Oliver, Jones & Viney as the fourth best midfielder on our list, and there is a fair gap back to the next level. That means that he is currently a certain selection each week regardless of form.

People saying to trade Tyson are kidding themselves. What we really need is to add 3 or 4 half decent (or better) midfielders to the list so there is genuine competition for spots and so that a player like Tyson finds himself at Casey if his form dips. Perhaps Brayshaw and Petracca can be 2 to step up, but we need to trade / draft some others.

Looks like Dom had a pretty good year if we could only learn to play in front, a lot more of his 78 inside 50's could have resulted in score board pressure. even two more would have made a big difference....................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is Dom...is good ...is....in need of more receiving outside mids to negate poor ol Dom's dubious disposals.

If he could improve his kicking skills by another 20% he would take his game to a whole new level. He strikes me as a confidence player and when is up and going where a much better team for it.

Unfortunately the gap from his best to worst make you pull your hair out. I agree Poita some more competition in the midfield may change things.

Doms problem is not so much HIS  ( imho ) it's teh teams etc. .it's that next possession getter.   They AREN'T there..thats more than often why poor decisions are made...lack of decent options

Can't play him injured. His poor form and kicking always coincide with injury.

They need to get him cherry ripe and rest him when they wouldn't for others.

Great point, he just doesn't carry injury well. Ball magnet but need him up and running.

This ^^

the players further down the chain have to read his pressure kicks better

inside mids don't have time for much planning

make no mistake: tyson is a vitally important player for us

he's regarded internally as one of our 'smartest' players around stoppages, but unfortunately we don't have the players capable of being the next link in the chain

part of the reason he is denigrated is because he gets it 30 times a game, so the dodgy two or three kicks really stand out; what's not noticed is the excellent inside work that he does where he's winning the contest

like a lot of our players, his capability of overcoming and playing through injury is a concern - he often can't get a clean run of health to maintain consistency of football

one thing that he was doing a few years back that he is not so much any more is impacting the scoreboard - that 5 goals 9 would look a lot better at 9 goals 5, meaning he's be averaging a goal every second game, which would be more consistent with his average across the course of his career thus far

i wonder if that is because we have more players capable of hitting the scoreboard - e.g. petracca, anb, melksham - meaning that he's rotating forward less or whether he's simply not playing in front of the contest so much?

i rate dom highly - he's frustrating at times, but (like salem, viney, oliver, petracca, brayshaw, et al) if we are going to go from being a good side to a very good side i think he will play a huge part in it as he's not yet cracked 100 games and is only 24; his best years are ahead of him

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
