Are you the new Riddler! :)

Sicily or Puopolo?  Rioli even?

Yes to Sicily - right age group and can play.

No to Puopolo - he is already 30 and is slowing down.  Don't need anymore of those.

More information please?  Or are you just stirring the pot

Well, that worked a treat, changed the subject, gave a sniff as to what a good Lewis would and should be doing to help his new side and brightened up everyone's night. However i do think there could be a bit of smoke here, if the truth be known. Daintree isn't Hawthorn Station Bridge.

I really appreciate your insight of wa players psd. In fact demonland has a number of really switched on wa based dees fans.

Do you have a sense of how the wafl compares to the vfl in terms of relative strength. 30 years ago the wafl and sanfl churned out afl ready players. Is it my imagination that has reduced (note to potential dl pedants i now the landscape is different and i deliberately picked a post afl time frame)?

WAFL certainly not what it used to be many clubs struggling like the stand alone VFL Clubs. East Freo the once powerhouse have been down for a long time and are heavily in debt. Perth are also a long perennial struggler and local fans have lost faith with the WAFC who run the game here. Everything here is about the 2 AFL Clubs and around 2011/12 when the competition was starting to find its feet again with an even spread. The WAFC crumbled to Meth Coast and Freo pressure and decided to align the AFL Clubs which started in 2013 and the comp has been in decline ever since.

There is a massive focus on draft numbers now but to muchb focus is towards developing elite top end talent which I understand somewhat but I feel we will see fewer late bloomers coming through the WAFL system.

There is a decent group from WA coming through in the next couple of years but I hate to think how many real driven players who would run through brick walls will be lost through the elite pathways focus

The afl is killing grass roots footy, because of the saturation on TV.  Sorry, the money is destroying the game, from the grass roots end.

So kids are playing Jnr's, but the 2nd tier seniors, is dying from suffocation. As is country footy.

TV saturation steals from the code, because people have had more than their fill, before leaving home.

Thanks PSD.

Interesting comment about the focus on elite end talent. I think it is similar here to an extent with the investment in and focus on the TAC cup. That said underneath the VFL we have some pretty strong comps and rookies coming through the VFL and even lower comps are making their mark across the AFL so perhaps the WC and frea are pulling the wrong rein.

Interesting that Sydney have a number of players that came up through the NEAFL. Rampe being one (he also played in the VFL). I don't have any sense of how strong that league is. Can some of the erstwhile Sydney demonlanders comment? Hardtack?

As good a place as any, though I'd be very surprised if anything came of it. Still ...

"It is understood the Suns sought out Melbourne assistant and Level Four coach Jade Rawlings for a preliminary discussion. It is not clear if the 39-year-old will be formally interviewed. Rawlings has been the Demons' backline assistant since 2012 and has developed a strong resume through stints with the Brisbane Lions and Richmond, where he was caretaker coach for 11 rounds in 2009. "

Upon reading your post I got out my prayer rug , faced the west ,head butted the carpet and wailed " take our other Richmond forward coach too " !

Watch this space. The game is becoming a congested slog as players lurch from one contest to the next, broken up each time not by clearing the ball but by the umpires stepping in to put everyone out of their misery. Will be interesting to see what if anything the AFL and the Rules Committee do.

For the moment, I don't know that I'd be putting all my recruiting eggs into insiders only - even if we did just see the Bombers bundled out because of a lack of them.

Don't lose sight of the MAIN FACT that the AFL is out to gain the heart and minds of the remaining Rugby and Polo states.

Once they achieve that and gain total financial dominance then its only a short step away from forming a true political party and wiping out the two other ineptives and they govern the land !

Should I not be around for that could one of you give a shout out respectively to me

The Schwab dynasty of F'ups should never be forgotten

Alan sent to Sydney to fix the Swannies ,fell asleep in his bed.We still await the coronial enquiry results !

Camerons a legend and should never be forgotten

Peter in his comeback season to AFL HQ in an umpiring position has proven why we all hate umpires . Pittard on Petrie ,its an automatic reversal !

Looking ahead. North/AFL will be ramping up games in Tassie with Hawthorn forced to exit. I can see North playing 8 games a season in Tassie within 2-3 years.

That would be off putting for any player. Who the heck would want to play that many games in cold and windy conditions.

I think player managers are onto this...

would this be the same if they  were looking at joining the Sqawks  ( when in contention) ?

I get your point though. I just think its as much about the Kangapoos being on the nose as much as anything.

Hypocrisy has developed into an art form on Demonland

Can somebody tell me 3 reasons why we need another small fwd and AFL website says we do is not one

If we keep everybody and get everyone fit, it is consistent fwd pressure we need from every fwd, doesn't necessarily have to be small, everybody is getting sucked in by Richmond model as they did with Bulldogs last year

My definition of a small forward attributes are not in order :

1. Elite speed

2. Uncanny ability to read the play

3. Ability to get in the right place to collect balls off packs

4. Ability to lead to the right more obscure place to create non existent opportunity and goal.

5. Elite kicking for goal from difficult positions

6. Apply great forward pressure. Like the man who  invented it. Mr A Davey.

7. Etc Etc

Jeffy is the only one who has those attributes. Ideally you need two in the team. You also need some who can come in when Jeffy has his annual form slump or gets injured.

Maye Dion Johnston will become one but I don't believe he has that burst speed. JKH doesn't have it and not a great kick for goal. Trac has it all but is more a high half forward slash midfielder. I guess Melksham has shown a bit of all of that but again more as a high half forward. ANB too but without the elite speed and without the elite any of the above but has it at a non elite level.

Put this together and you get more than 3 reasons why we need more small forwards.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
