Was Salem reported by the umpire?

Was Salem playing as desired by the coach with more intensity? Perhaps out to show these lesser players at reserves level that he is tougher than them? Perhaps he merely applied AFL intensity to this game? Was this merely a tragic error of time space location?

Jeez we're quick to hang our own players on here.

Salem does things on the field that not many players in our side can do.  Importantly he can hit a target.

Sounds like he's made a mistake today, but for god sake now he should be traded.

unbelievable.

Sounds like that might have been a problem today.

Probably not, he was good without being great

Did he play with any desperation?

Blues really cost themselves percentage with their accuracy.

Great to see the win, great reports on mfc players aside from the Salem hit.

Stretch and BenKen keep knocking on the door.

Best game I've seen from Keilty, looks like just what Melbourne needs down back.

Anyone know stats for the amount of games we have had a player suspended this year? Last year we only had a total of three weeks of player suspensions.

this year I reckon we are pushing a total of 20 weeks

That has not stopped Weideman from getting a game D167.

I'm looking forward to reading Plappy's report. That's normally a good indication. Would think he'd need at least 2 weeks though.

Watts not in our best, at VFL level.

Ho hum...

Bug's act of stupidity is going to give this more fat than what you are chasing deserves.

For me, the thing about suspensions is not necessarily the quantity of weeks, but the quality of the personnel doing it, the quality of the impact that caused the suspension, which then leads to the outcome of the game the incident happened in.

For example, the Bugg suspension ticked 2 out of 3 boxes for me.  It was a lesser quality player that did it, he totally wiped out one of their key playmakers out of the game, but we lost.  Had we won, it was the perfect suspension in my eyes.

I know that will be controversial to some.  I don't really care.

On any level it was a stupid act.

He deserved every week he got. I have seldom seen that benefit the offenders team.

"I felt that he played a strong role in creating aerial contests for us to bring our ground level players into play. In the last quarter, when we needed players to stand-up and compete, he took two strong contested marks and kicked a goal. He also set up another goal. When we needed him the most on the weekend, he was there. It was great to see the young man influence the game in the last quarter."

etc. etc.

From the VFL website-

CASEY DEMONS
Goal Kickers: B. Fritsch 4, Y. Zijai 3, B. Kennedy 3, L. Hulett, C. Salem, E. Morris, A. Ferreira, C. Porter, J. Kennedy-Harris, J. Watts
Best Players: D. Keilty, B. Kennedy, J. Trengove, C. Salem, B. Stretch, Y. Zijai

Was a great day out. I sat next to Sam Frost for half the game in the grandstands, and we had a good chat about him, Dec, and a few of the other boys who were playing (Salem, Kenno, Watts) Was pretty awesome.

Keilty is in AFL form, his last 2 months have been sensational. Last week and today were the 2 best game's I've ever seen him play. Being in the business end of the season, I doubt he'll get a debut, but keep an eye on him over preseason, and he might just become a great player for the Melbourne Footy Club.

What's his current playing height and weight mate?

Sorry if already mentioned - does today's win cement Casey in the finals?

Technically if they lose the next 2 and Werribee win the next 2 by big margins, they could drop to 9th, but Casey percentage is good enough and the next 2 games are at home where they haven't been beaten in over 18 months so they should be right.

Thanks KC and all other posters another great win to Casey, sorry to hear Salem will probably miss a few games as looks like he played a fair game. Go Casey, Go Dee's!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keilty BOG after a run of a month being named in the best players.

Hes going to debut at some stage, but will he run out of time this season?  I wouldnt put it past Goody to debut him in an Elimination final if we got there

Anyway, great to see his development

With all the problems we have had with suspensions at AFL level, Salem goes and whacks someone in the VFL and knocks them out.

Trade him.   We dont need this sort of idiocy at the club when we need all players available at this crucial time.

So trade him because he whacked someone? Should trade you to demonology for being a weak fickle 'supporter'

Mark Yeates' hit in 1989 was nearly a masterstroke.  Can't remember if he get weeks for it, but it nearly got the desired result.

While I do not endorse what Bugg did, if the right opportunity, and the right moment, during the right game presented itself, providing it lead to the right result, I'd accept it.

I have to admit I am very surprised by all of the Salem talk on this thread, I didn't see him get reported and the incident where Sumner was injured I thought wasn't even a free kick at the time. You don't have replays and I didn't have the best angle but I think he will be fine from my view, just a very solid bump..

On the rest of the game, Casey dominated the contest in the first half over a very poor blues team.  I was fairly disappointed with the second half thou,  they stopped and limped over the line with the Blues dominating the contested ball.  Luckily for Casey the Blues were very wasteful at goal and Declan Kielty was on fire as the final margin should have been a lot closer.

Watts didn't do enough from my view, another week in the VFL.

What's his kicking like? Decision making? I might go to next weeks game just to watch him

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
