Jack Watts (again)

Yes, I know he's the perennial whipping boy. And I have been a supporter of his for as long as I care to remember. But he has been shocking the last 3 weeks, during a crucial period for the club. It's now 150 games plus. I have no idea of his contract status and situation. He has three more weeks. Either they're very good, or it really is time for him - and the club - to move on.

Lifted significantly in the second half.

The game was lost in the first half.

Makes it hard if we hardly get it forward and when we do it's bombed so long and high it comes down with snow on it

Pitiful in the first half. He has been terrible lately and one now struggles to see substantive improvement in him. For this team to progress, it needs to make some tough decisions on personnel. As a general comment,  our senior players are - frankly - B grade.

Watts has 3 weeks.

Really? There are plenty of other fish to fry. Sad that a thread is committed to this.

He was having another really good season before he got injured. Obviously he's struggled since coming back from that injury. He seems to be lost with his position out there at the moment. He's not committing to pushing all the way up to the wings and half back as the link man, but is also not playing deep so is kind of caught in between with long bombs going over his head. It's hard for any forward we have at the moment to get a clean run at it as our inside 50s are pathetic long bombs to outnumbered teammates.

He showed some fight and a few flashes in the second half today and second half against Port. I wouldn't drop him, as there isn't much else down in the VFL to replace him with, and like it or not we need his good kicking skills either going into the 50 or taking shots. We don't have many other proven goal kickers so he stays in the team to work back into form.

A poorly structured team...

Pedo was ok when Max was out but with him and Tommy Mac forward it doesn't work.

So, the Watts question. He needs to be the relief ruck, it gives him a sense of urgency and has played his best footy playing this way.

Would have to agree with these comments. Bit difficult for any of our fwds in the 1st half because we bombed.it in all the time !! No brains in the midfield.

Petracca and Oliver need to kick more .

Watts was crap but so we're about 12 others, everyone focuses on Jack but no one else. Whole team is playing shyte footy, could have a lot to do with playing in shyte windy condition in far reaching places last two weeks

Really. The guy played a good season last year and is back to his old form that he used to get canned for.

He lacks intensity and doesn't commit his body.

Yes there are other fish but THIS forum was titled watts.

So in that vein, I think he has been pathetic and we could do worse by getting another forward in his place.

Omg - really?

Another Watts' thread

Ffs

My sentiments exactly, get sick to [censored] death of 'supporters' singling out one player when at least 12 others were as bad or worse

Got his 1st kick in the 3rd quarter so I guess he did have a better half.

Jack has dropped off again in his willingness to compete.   Salem has been poor in this area as well.

Many other important players are also out of form and tired but these are the 2 that look to me to be off in the non  negotiables.

Yeah it's another thread, but it is what it is.

Jeffrey has had 2 great weeks.

Missed a goal from 5 metres that could have won game last week  and 3 possies and no score today.

Yeah he's another one.

Stop hijacking the 'it's Jack Watts' fault' thread, please

Be nice if he stuck one tackle or showed some intensity. It's his general lackluster appearance that infuriates so many. We need 22 giving 100% to play finals.

If we're for real he goes out for Weed.

Boys, boys, boys. So quick to judge, so quick to forget the great things he's done this year, so quick to forget he was out injured, quick to point out he's lost some touch, but so has the team. Forwards always cop the brunt of the poor form of the so-called deliverers. What more does Watts have to do to prove to you men of no good will that he has bled for this club, that he's in the trenches fighting for his team?

That's an assumption, that people calling for him to be dropped have forgotten his best footy. I daresay his good football won't be forgotten by anyone who say QB. I know I won't forget it. He's a good player. I still want him dropped. Poor form, as regularly as it is for him, for 3 weeks straight... it's more important for the whole team that he finds form elsewhere.

There is actually a nasty trend of players coming back from injury and taking forever to regain form or not regaining it at all.

Players need time to pick up the pace,  but man our players seem to take longer than most.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
