No idea who we would rather win today out of St.Kilda & West Coast... WC win sort of ends St.Kildas hopes but they gain a game on us & a St.Kilda win gives them some momentum and hope...  Not sure why I give a flying [censored] really

St Kilda to win today. Then it's our job to beat them next week. If we can't so be it. It fact let the saints play their Grand Final today. That the best chance of us sitting back in 7th next week.

WCE as it will make it harder for Ess to make the finals.

As a Dees supporter the killer blow for this season will be if do not make finals but Ess do.

So Go Eagles!

Wow.  Treloar was just paid a free for a dangerous tackle where hit head bounced off the ground.  Maybe a minute later Ben Brown was knocked out in a tackle with his arms pinned and got pinged for holding the ball.

Buckley is a [censored] saying that's the perfect tackle, sooner this rubbish is eliminated from the sport the better. Grundy deserves to go for 3 weeks, and Mumford should go for at least one week for his dangerous tackle on Maynard. Eliminate the thugs!!!

We've actually been handed a dream draw to end the season. Because we folded and couldn't get the job done against North, we have a chance to redeem ourselves with three straight games at the MCG, two against teams that never play there, and all three against teams below us. Pies are playing good footy atm, but we still have it easy compared to Bulldogs, Eagles, Bombers, who we are competing against for a spot in the finals.

Let's take a look at a difficulty scale based on current ladder position. 1st place = 18 points, 18th place = 1 point.

  • Western Bulldogs: 37 on difficulty scale
  • Essendon: 27 on difficulty scale
  • Eagles: 37 on difficulty scale
  • Melbourne: 16 on difficulty scale

Missing finals from here would be a colossal failure. The stars have aligned for this end to the season -- no travelling, all at the MCG, two 7-day breaks -- and we absolutely need to get it done. The aforementioned teams are all facing teams at the top end of the table, who we've faced in the past 2 months. I said earlier this season that the trifecta of Adelaide-Port-GWS needed to result in 2 wins for us to make finals, but that factored in a win against North. We went 1-2 in that trifecta,  and with the North loss that puts us 2 wins off the mark of where we need to be to compete for finals. This means 3 wins to finish the season would net us a finals spot. If we net all three wins, we only need one match to go our way out of the games played by the other three.

Also need to factor in performance of Port. Sydney beating Geelong essentially locks them in as they have a dream draw home. If Port lose today they are only a game ahead of us, with Collingwood, WB and GC to come.

We are still in as good a spot for a final spot as we've been in for a decade. We'd be looking at one of the all-time great breakdowns in the club's history if we don't make it from here. I know the variables have made it tough and it's been a long season, but if we falter in the test of persistence and the marathon, that's going to linger over the club like a bad stain.

Yes but all of this assumes we will win our remaining 3 games, which wont happen. At the moment we are horrible. The last 2 weeks have shown that our players are tired. Probably because the young ones have been asked to shoulder a lot of work due to the injuries we have had. They are basically running out of steam. Look at the uncontested stats, a big drop off in the past 4-5 games, players just aren't running to create space because they are knackered. Both St Kilda (who will probably win today as West Coast are useless outside of Perth) and Collingwood will beat us easily on our present form. And Brisbane will go close also.

I have zero care factor. Still flat this morning after yesterday's loss.?

So the saints eagles get to play under the roof and the hawks and tigs will battle it out in real winter conditions at the G today.

Exactly.

Desperately need the Saints to win.

West Coast winning will move them to 11 wins.  And we will be a whole game out of the 8.

I dare say if West Coast win today, our finals dream is over.

Looks like they will.

If the Saints win today then next week is officially an elimination final. Whoever loses between us is out of finals contention. And you just know how this team responds when the heat is on (cough).

I'd rather West Coast win today and knock the filthy Drug Cheats out of the top 8. Also kills off any hope of the Saints making finals, thus having nothing to play for next week.

We can still make the 8 if west coast win. In fact i have us losing to Collingwood and finishing equal 8th with WC......wonder what happens there if your tied on % in 8th?

edit: pretty unlikely but i wonder if theres a rule?

Yes we can but its highly unlikely.

13 wins will be needed.  12 is a fairytale.

Oh yeah sure........we need to win everything, but its still quite possible....that will be a fairytale! :)

I should clarify, I think that 12 wins is a pipe dream if West Coast win today.

If the Saints win, there will be 4 teams on 10 wins in 8th spot, separated by percentage.

Its possible 12 wins will get you in in that scenario, but we would also be in a race for %.  Good news is we are only 2% behind Essendrug and they still have a game to come vs the Crows.

Need the Sainters to get up.  Huge difference between being out of the eight by 2%, or being a whole game out after the round.

I still think the Dons are due for a soul crushing failure against GC or Freo.

Yep I see..... and depends on Ess/Adel, which is next week. If Adelaide win then were a game clear of ess....assuming we keep winning. A few senarios to play out yet i guess. We can still make it, but i think were going to burn out unfortunately.

If we made 8th and then theres a bye, so some hope....

Nothing to play for equals no pressure.

Good point. Exactly why Norf beat us......we can beat the Saints tho.

I can see exactly what happens next week if we play a Saints team on the march to a fairytale finals campaign for Riewoldt. It would be talked up in the media all week. Their pressure is first class and they have repeatedly shown up our inside game with a predictable outside marking game. They're also in great form, despite losing at the death last week.

So yeah, playing against a Saints team with a glimmer of finals hope next week? No thanks!

Yeah, MFCSS. This club has given me no reason to think otherwise for months.

I really dont think StKilda will win today.....their fairytale will end in 20mins. They are WCs bunnies.
