Not sure how many will remember this, no TV camera caught it but anyone there will never forget it.

My fave goal was 'Irish' sliding on his back and kicking a ball moving at pace on the half volley on a 60 degree angle through for goal in the wet (not certain about it being wet but confident it was) against Richmond at the G many moons ago.

I've not seen anything since I rate higher.

Are you talking about Sean Wight who scored it in the driving rain at the 'G. Best goal I have ever seen. Reckon it was from 40 or 50 out from the boundary line.

Second best goal - Bennett taps down to Jackovich, scissor kick. GOAL!

Best mark - Matthew Febey playing for the Allies, running the wrong way. Specccccial!

(a) the late Neil "Froggy" Crompton's goal in the 1964 Grand Final put the nail in the Collingwood coffin and won us our last premiership.

(B) a goal kicked by Robbie Flower some time in the 70's out at Windy Hill when he got the ball in the back pocket and ran and passed the ball all the way into the forward line and ended up kicking the goal himself. We were such a shyzen side in those days and Robbie was like an oasis in the desert.

Reckon it was more like 30 meters out, but yeah a miraculous goal. Have seen most of our classics live in the last 2 decades (though not flashes this year and that was very very good).

The Jacko and more so the Farmer one are fond memories, but the goal from Irish is by far my favourite.

I saw Tony Campbell take a fantastic mark at Footscray in the late 80's. He was running back with the flight of the ball to the opposition goal line where a Footscray player was waiting to mark or shepherd it through. With his head turned back, eyes on the ball, Campbell put his knee on the guy's shoulder, flew, and marked it cleanly. Unaccountably, the Ump didn't pay the mark. Perhaps he didn't believe such a mark was possible!

Any number of Flower's would qualify Jack.

I thought Jakovichs scissor kick against North in 1991 was very good. Darren Bennett/ David Neitz goals outside 50.

Davey's goal against Geelong was very good. Farmer had his own brilliance.

But for me the best goal would be one of Brad Green's goals against Carlton in the 2000QF. Pressure, youth and cool calm head resulted in a number of sublime goals.

Best mark: Farmer vs Richmond or Smith vs Brisbane. Special mention to Robbo.

Does anyone remeber Garry Lyons goal 88 out at artic park against Carlton in the wet? 80 metre torp GOAL. An absolute cracker. Melbourne Adelaide 02, Peter vardy, hard up against the boundary line from 45, dead pocket on his left.

Sure do, and great get this one.

the important aspect at the time was that Steve O'Dwyer had just clocked a Carlton player with a forearm to the head - bit of a fight on the flank - and we all remember what happened at the tribunal.

Lyon marked the ball, and whilst everyone else was looking away, went back and slotted it with a torp.. badly needed at the time. Not bad maturity for a 20 year old then in his first final series.

Farmer's goal in 1998 , if i remember, was followed after the game by comments from the Melb. players about beating the Richmod netball team.

Farmer's mark in '98 v Tiges.

Farmers goal at Waverley v Hawks was fantastic. Woewodin's goal was very good, as was Davey's v Cats.

I'll always have a special place for Viney's goal a minute in to the match on the first saturday in sept in '87.

My favourite goal?

It wasn't great in the absolute sense of the word.

But in 2002, versus Adelaide in the final, Peter Walsh takes the ball infront of the MCC members in the third quarter. He's all on his own on the 50 metre line on the boundary. He turns, runs in and kicks. It's gun barrell straight. At that moment I thought we could win the flag that year.

Sadly I was wrong. But I'll never forget the goal.

Peter Walsh. One of my favourite ever players.

QUOTE "Paul Gardner Squad"

"Steve O'Dwyer had just clocked a Carlton player with a forearm to the head - bit of a fight on the flank - and we all remember what happened at the tribunal."

That was a crucial incident, "Paul". Da Rui had just king-hit Greg Healy(I think it was him),without any censure from the Umps. Strawbs dashed in to remonstrate, and swung a haymaker, which basically missed, apart from a brush to the face with his forearm.

Strawbs was suspended and missed the GF. The selectors took Danny Hughes out of the backline to fill the hole in the ruck. So we allowed O'Dwyer's absence to disrupt the backline, as well as the ruck. Hawthorn killed us, and the loss of our best and fairest (yep, Strawbs "fairest!!!")winner that year for the GF didn't help. An average tall forward(Abbott) kicked a poultice. He would have struggled with Danny down there.

just lookin around found a few interesting videos

another great mark from robbo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBaVCqQsCds

That's the best mark I've seen Robbo take. The leap was huge!

I remember sitting at a freezing Telstra Dome (It was Colonial back then, but still a rubbish place to watch the footy  ), watching us pretty much do a number on Freo, and Robbo took the mark, knocked the guy out, and Dale Kickett (I think?) never played again.

There was also a back slap from the umpire I believe, who at the time thought it was pretty spectacular.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
