Port Melbourne v Casey Demons

Earlier this season, the Casey Demons scored a shock win at home over the then ladder leaders Port Melbourne. Can they do it again at the home of the Burra on Saturday afternoon?

With the AFL squad missing 10 players, Casey will be fielding lots of youngsters. A big upset if they can topple Port at Port.

At least, with the Seniors playing the night before, would presumably mean ALL the emergencies for the senior game will be able to have a run with Casey...!

They got the top of the table Hawks last week and while Salem and Garlett are out of the seniors J.Smith is back and we'll also have the carry over player from last week, so essentially no loss of senior guys (in numbers).

I've been really impressed with the way the guys who've been dropped down to Casey this year have performed when they've come back into the senior side. The term "shuffling the deck chairs" was used a lot on here in the past, but guys like ANB, Melksham, Harmes and OMac have gone back then performed well and come back better into the senior side.

Hoges for a half at Casey?

Won't happen but there is some sense in it

We can all dream DJ

Is Joel Smith back?

Yep, good to see.

Considering the injuries, Casey only lose White from last week (as Wagner went to Perth) and gain Smith which pretty much cancels it out. Still a strong looking VFL side I reckon. Really hope Weid, JKH, Kennedy and Kent can pick up where they left off and continue putting upward pressure on the seniors.

I agree, some game time in the VFL for Hogan would be good . His first and best year, came off him rag dolling defenders in the VFL. It might give him added confidence and get his 'eye in" for the game against Carlton next week.

Well ... it's a bit chilly but the sun is out.

Nice day to head to the Port Oval perhaps via the trendy South Melbourne market.

Never before have the Casey AFL players had more reason to play well and display their wares.

Places are going begging in the senior team for next week and if you play well against Carlton then you will get at least two to three more games.

I would not have thought it two or three weeks ago but with a good game the Weed is a chance for next week along with the usual suspects. Hell... even Trenners is in the mix

See you there guys and gals

PS I see that Maynard and J Smith are both rookies according to our list. Do we have enough long term injuries (horrible thing to say) to activate those two if they star?

BIG DAY FOR

Kent, Ben Ken, Weeds, J Smith, Trengove, JKH, and Spencer!

If the 3 not-so-special K's were left out last night for disciplinary reasons, they owe their teammates and supporters big time.

One or all could have made a difference last night.  Being fresh they could have helped us stay in touch and added some spark and energy in the middle and up forward.

Top game expected from all three today.  Don't want to see any of them getting undeserved senior games because we have no one else to choose from.

Kennedy, Kent and Kennedy-Harris - its time to stand up!

There's a chance that this bloke could make his debut with the Casey Seniors today.

You never know ... with the injuries ... he could be "straight to the pool room!!"

Agreed.  Spots up for grabs in the side for sure.  These boys should be very hungry - especially Kent, BenKen and JKH.  I think they owe the team more than the rest.

I'd add Maynard to the list too.

The only thing it "tells" is that the spots in the VFL sides are listed pretty much at random.  He won't play there.

Yes and No, the thought must have entered someones mind. It is what it is and I have no issue with him playing there, would be good for him and his attitude.

Just listen to triple m they had a doctor on and said Viney will have to go under the knife.

He said could be four weeks on the side lines.:(

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
