Yep, totally agree that it is very possible.  The Saints will want to send off Roo on a high and they are every chance to knock them off.  I'd be happy with Richmond at the G.

There are 2 reasons why I'd like us to take on Port on their home deck - one is that we play AAMI very, very well, and the other is that Port have a soft underbelly and we match up on them very well.  I'd be happy with either Richmond or Port.

Its Adelaide Oval WB (not being narky!) but yes they are very beatable, considering how well we played against them just recently.

The Tigs are playing too well ATM and would be surprised if they lost to the Saints.  Im hoping Sydney smash Carlton by a SCG Cricket score and we obviously do the job on Collingwood.

I admit I wasn't concerned about the 6 day break initially but that was before I realised they'd given Essendon an 8 day break because of it. Seriously it's not hard, Essendon plays Freo at ES on Saturday gets a 7 day break and we play Collingwood on Sunday and also get a 7 day break.

Is there something at the AFL that prevents them from seeing the obvious?

I was thinking more from a strategic perspective. If Essendon win big, as they would be expected to, but those out of the eight don't, a loss to Collingwood would line us up with PA instead of Sydney.

Unless Sydney beat Carlton by at least 20 points more than PA beat Gold Coast, then winning would be better.

It would be great to have it all in front of us when we name our final team next week.

The Tigers are a good team and they have an opportunity to play Geelong at what will surely be played at the G in front of 90k predominantly Tigers fans. They are a huge show to be hosting a Prelim.

Adelaide will lose to WCE IMO. They will be playing after the Geel-GWS that will settle the minor premiership if anyone cares about that.

This means that we will on the tightrope if we lose to the Pies.

Exciting.

Sorry, I misspelled:

Excruciating.

That's what happens when 2 games against Nought are lost and we lose to The Shockers at The MCG

12 points we threw away

Excruciating, for sure, but it sure beats wondering where we're going to finish between 12th and last. This must be what it feels like barracking for an actual footy team.

Best outcome is Rich at the G.

It is very possible.  StK thrashed Rich by 11 goals 5 weeks ago and they will desperate to give Nick a big farewell.  They can do it again.  If Port and Syd beat Suns and Carl as expected, whoever has the biggest win will be 4th and Rich will be 6th.  To improve our chances to play them at the G we need the biggest possible win vs Pies making it hard for Ess to end up 7th.  Places still wide open.

Doesn't matter what we beat Collingwood by inregards to Essendon they cant jump us as we'd be a game clear of them... We win we'll finish 7th

As much as I wouldn't like us to face Sydney in the finals, I ultimately just want us to make it. So it's simple for me.

Lets beat the Pies (1pt or 100pts I don't care), the rest can sort themselves out.

Everyone screaming to play Tigers but boy they looked menacing against Freo.

I didnt have them pegged to play so well after last year. Biggest improvers by far.

Either option will be tough but we seem to have Tigers measure on more than one time which is more than Swans of late.

What did you think Etihad?

The Olympic Stadium in Western Sydney actually

Of course if the Saints beat the Tigers and we win. Well then it's most likely a Melb Vs Tigers first final and a good chance of Melb Vs Cat second week. Still a lot of ways it could go.

That's how I see it, and they're two finals we could win if we play our best footy.

Well there is that deal in place still isn't there?

That's what i am not sure about. They have stopped playing Home & Away out there, but not sure about Finals

Yeah think the new deal was struck after that.

But knocking Sydney out at the SCG would be the best possible result.

Sydney only have to claw back a little bit of % next week, assuming they, the Tiges and Port all win. It's very plausible that we could be playing Port in Adelaide in week 1.

It just so happens that Jetstar have just started direct flights from Hobart to Adelaide. It could be fate...

Port is likely to thrash GC though. Port always play well against the rubbish sides and GC is as rubbish as they come.

I doubt Sydney can pass Port which will keep them 6th unless Richmond loses to St Kilda.

Even if we win, a heap of other games will determine where we finish.  In order of time played:  Syd vs Carlton. Port vs Suns. Ess vs Freo. Rich vs StK.

Assuming we win Demons/Ess will finish 7th/8th. But Ess will know the results of most other games so they will know the exact score they need to avoid meeting Sydney in the Elim final.  They will milk that advantage for all it is worth.

All we can do is go out and win and play our best and que sera sera.  But we will need to wait till this time next Sunday to know who we play in the Elim (if we get there).  It will be a very long weekend.

If we win, Essendon can't pass us. We're locked in to 7th if we win.

If we lose, then Essendon will almost certainly pass us if they win. Would have to be two 1-point margins to keep us in front of them, or something like that. But in all likelihood Essendon will spank Fremantle.

Our only chance of playing finals with a loss is Adelaide beating West Coast or, again, two 1-point margins to keep our percentage in front of WC's.

They can't put us on the Sunday because they already have Richmond v St Kilda on the Sunday at the G.

Both those clubs played today which would have had both on a 6-day break (and with Richmond coming back from Perth). Essentially, Richmond got taken care of over us, but Richmond is higher on the ladder so we can hardly complain.

If we can make it, I'm not too concerned with who we play.  The experience of playing finals is what this group needs.  Of course I'd love to go deep into September, but playing finals will set us up for a great tilt from 2018 onwards.

The best outcome is Port at AAMI.  The worst is obviously the Swans up there.  If we can have our best side on the park then we can match it with anyone.  We just have to make sure we make it, first.

If we make it, my preferred match up is Richmond at the G. Friday night, 95,000+ people, would be epic. And I also think we can beat Richmond.

We can possibly beat Port as well, but wouldn't be nearly as fun.

We're no chance of beating Sydney, which remains the most likely option (as I can't see Sydney passing Port on percentage and I can't see Richmond losing to St Kilda).

I disagree. We are good enough to beat the swans if we play 4 quarters with our best side in. Nothing short of that though.

I would be fairly confident against port or Richmond

still have to make it though. And I think we will beat the pies and lock it In

Wrong. we can lose next week and still make it  or lose and finish as low as 11th. Best to just beat the filth.

What was wrong?  I said if we lose and the Eagles win, we could easily miss the 8 on %

Thats not wrong, thats right

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
