It seems our doctors may have come to the party!

"...vision of Schofield making contact with Oliver's jaw, combined with the strong medical report from the Demons, led the MRP to deem the strike as intentional with low impact to the head... The decision to sanction Schofield by definition rules out any possibility for the MRP to claim that Oliver was staging."

At last the MRP see sense!

but......"strong medical report" and "low impact" don't exactly gel

i wonder if "strong medical report" is just a bit of reporter's colouring. strong is a strange word to use here.

Demon 77 just ask your Essesendon lot to recall the 2000 GF and look at how their players go about business. Do not back down. I would have let fly as well. Demon supporters and the club will no longer be bullied. Attacking you at work for supporting a team is bullying and unacceptable. You now feel how Clarrry is feeling. The victim is apparently at fault. Go Dees

Was listening to robbo on sen podcast, he had clarry in his dislikes and a caller rang up and said watch boxing as you can cop just a glancing blow on your chin and it can stun you to the point of falling over, it sort of changed Robbos mind on it, I bet he goes into bat for clarry on afl360 tonight bookmark it

Spot on.  If you get hit on the point of the chin laterally it doesn't take a heap of force to take you down.

Clayton changed his profile photo on twitter that clearly shows the elbow connecting with his chin.

I reckon he regrets posting to Damien Martyn as I think he's been copping tons of posts his way, so he felt the need to put up the photo to justify himself further. But surely now that a decision has been made by MRP everyone can move on

Schofield gets 2 down to 1.  Deemed intentional.  The right call IMV.

So rubbish to all the media who tried to make it a Clayton story!

Only fair given Lewis and Hogan both got multiple weeks.

Nothing original to add here, but I just wanted to say that - after watching him being interviewed on Saturday night - his composure in the face of those smirking dinosaurs -  and thinking about how he's played this year - I just love this guy.  I still can't get that picture of him in the Richmond game out of my head - the one where he's up to his neck in a rolling scrum and somehow gets the ball out to Jeffy - brilliant. How could they - and even some of you on this thread - think for a second he's a diver?

Love both Jonesy and Viney, but this kid's a freak.

We probably were strong in suggesting that contact was 100% made to Oliver's jaw that needed medical attention to clear Oliver of any serious damage as he was in pain and bleeding. The impact was low, but it was there!

An Essendon supporter greeted me at work this morning by telling me Oliver needs to take a good hard look at himself.

That caused the first twitch in my eye, I returned serve with the points you stated, Schofield being the real issue here and I couldn't care less if Oliver dived or did not.

His next response was, nah mate Schofield only did what Jones, Viney and Bugg have been doing all year. Well, that was enough for both eyes to start twitching, I had to stop my task immediately before a verbal spat ignited, found the smoking balcony and sucked down a quick Winnie Blue whilst jumping on Demonland to calm down.

Just to take this a little further. Is this MFC GOOD ball player so good and so brave, and so much in Brownlow Medal contention that he is, much like two certain Geelong players, getting picked on on because of that very reason. I guess what i am saying is, like his counterparts from the Cats, he deserves, and it is about bloody time he received, the same degree of protection by the Umpires and indeed the support of the AFL, MRP, whoever.....

Do we have to wait otherwise until all ball players are seriously injured before the penny drops!!!!!!

Perhaps a word from the right level of seniority within the AFL to the media could sort this out....

Give your workmate a copy of the MRP outcome showing Clarry didnt stage .

Then give him a summary of the WADA hearing.

Then hand him a Syringe

Then laugh in his face.

Then point to the ladder, and the results from our last game, and walk off.

Yep. As i suggested earlier... there's a jolly good reason boxers like to land one across a chin !!

Any credibility Slobbo may have had has evaporated over the last month.  The guy is an A grade jerk.

Should have just put a little elbow on his chin and seen what his reaction was!

It also p***ed me off when Clarry kicked what must be close to goal of the year and then the hacks started tearing it down with crap about it hitting the post.

clowns

In defence of Slobbo, he did say that it is wrong that we are talking about Clarry and not Schofield who should be copping the heat.

In years to come, Clarry will be remembered as a match winner, not a stager.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
