Not sure why people are worried about who's going to line up against us next week v West Coast when we have a big assignment against the Bullies who get back four of their better premiership players for this Sunday's "season defining" game at Etihad.

What happened to one week at a time?

Boring.

It's more efficient to do one week at a time two weeks at a time. Economy of scale.

Clubs and players have their cliches so here's some other mangled cliches to help answer your question: If you're not looking at the big picture then you're not seeing the woods for the trees

AFL.com.au click bait states "a star saint in doubt" but you when I clicked through to the story I find out that it's only Joke Carlisle who is in doubt to play...

Also an update to my post last night that Mitchell had been reported, it was actually Selwood reported for striking Mitchell (not the other way around), but Mitchell still likely to be looked at by MRP for his attempt to strangle Selwood in response... (If only MRP stood for Melbourne Review Panel - he'd be out for sure.)

Any ladder-obsessives  to tell me whom I should support tonight - St Kilda or North?   (Personal prefernece is of course St Kilda, but the ladder looms.)

Hmm it's a tough one, but I think I'll actually be going for the Saints. Although they are only game behind us I think North are stronger and will end up as more of a challenger. I also hate North.

Not really sure though.

Short term a North win is better as it would then leave both teams a game and a lot of percentage behind. Long term who could ever know the way this year has gone.

North's run home is not  too bad

The only teams they play who are now in the 8 are Essendon, Port and us.

St Kilda have a much tougher run with Richmond twice, Port, Eagles , Essendon and us plus a game against the Swans in Sydney .

Based on the run home a North loss might be best at this stage.

North for sure. Will put both teams at 5-7 with percentages below 100.  So while they will both still be in the finals hunt,  they'd both need to win 7 of their last 10 games making it hard for either to make it, and extremely unlikely both make it.

Going for a draw.

That will shaft them both equally.

not really.  They may both end up 2 points ahead of us with poor percentages.  Better that one of them is 4 points worse and may battle us on percentage.  Trouble is which one, and guessing what happens to them in the rest of the year.

Pertraccattack and Diamond Jim are both equally persuasive.  Arrggghhhhh.....

Just on a different match, I find it incredible that Richmond (on the betting side of things) is going in as the underdog vs Sydney at the MCG.

I know pretty much everyone agrees that Richmond aren't as good as their 4th placing has them, and Sydney aren't as bad as they're 14th placing has them, but it just seems completely backwards.

We really have to put Norf away or we are going nowhere.

North are an unknown unknown .

Saint are a known unknown.

If you know what I mean.

Huge crowd at Etihad.

Yawn.

Nought v The Aints

and Bruce....

The crowd is amazing ..... they had more for Carlton v GWS last week on a cold afternoon.

You wouldn't think this is a game between two old Melbourne clubs fighting for their season

This Comp is run by fools.

11 years since we have beaten that junk

Thought I'd jump on here and see a stream of people complaining about how we "shouldn't have" lost against the Roos. Turns out I was wrong. Maybe Demonland is maturing.

I was waiting until they're 10 goals down, but at this rate I won't be waiting long

I doubt it, Chook.  Just give it some time.

Late goal to the Kangas means that the 16 point margin is about half what it should be

Give Shuey a week for the hit on Dangerfield please.

Low impact, unintentional, contact actually initiated by the player lying on the ground. No cause to suspend Shuey. It would be a travesty for him even to be fined for it. The MRP should apologise to Shuey for wasting his time. Case closed !!!!!

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
