WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY

Featured Replies

Look, anyone that has a clue about footy knows May is quality and should be back to his best in a good side like ours.

It's really simple.

Those that don't rate him clearly don't watch enough of him or are just clueless.

One can only laugh when posters start talking about which opposition player kicked what amount of goals on him. It's just massive lols.

If one's understanding of football only goes that far, there's no point in engaging further with them.

GCS Update on May and Kade:

Cameron suggested Brisbane’s pick five, which could go to Fremantle for Lachie Neale before moving to Melbourne for Hogan, would provide the linchpin for any May deal...we’re at the end of that chain and we’ll wait and see what happens," he said.

"We’ll get something done with Kade either today or tomorrow," Cameron said...If they come to us with something around Steven then it might be tied into that, that’s a fair way off as I said."

The key point for me is pick 5 is the linchpin for a May deal ie there will be other +/- .  I read that as GCS adding to May with picks or player(s) depending on when it gets done.

if 5, there'd need to be a decent pick coming back

I agree.

With 5 they will have 2, 3, 5, 19, 24, 29, plus some later picks.  With the 3 state league players coming in they don't have enough list spots to use all their picks - at my last count they have 3 spots (after May and Kade K go).

I can see one of 19, 24, 29 coming back to us for some of our back end 2019 picks (3rd/4th round).  They are keen to get points for next year's academy players so that sort of pick swap really works for them.

I am only guessing but this is what makes sense to get a fair deal on May and it helps GCS with their 2019 list management.

As an aside, if anyone thinks we shouldn't help GCS it is worth remembering that they helped us get Oliver, even after Howe put a spanner in the works and detoured to Pies.

must say I cannot see what good three draft picks under 10 will do for the Suns.

They need solid senior players. They'll be lucky to hold two of those 6 top 30 picks beyond 3 years.

Pity we can't talk Hogan into going north May and a top ten draft pick would be a breeze.

You're probably right. A lot depends on what culture Dew can build up there...a tough gig for sure.

Mitch Cleary reporting that Steven May is happy to play for any Victorian Club.

Things just escalated a little...

So May has now come out and said he is willing to talk to any VIC club for a trade.

This could very well be an absolute disaster. Freo needs to get a bloody wriggle on so we can get this thing started. The Doggies will most likely be circling with pick 7.

This plays into their hands perfectly.  How desperate are we to get a deal done?  If we panic, which I'm backing us not to, then we may just accept any sort of pick to get the May deal done to ensure he comes to us.

Or we don't panic, get a good deal for Hogan and believe he still prefers to play for us and will wait until tomorrow night to get to us, which in turn means we get the deal we really want.

Interesting 30 odd hours to come.

Wouldn't be surprised the Bulldogs made a play for him.

Some of Mays opponents from 2018. People will argue the midfield was to blame but it doesn’t fill me with confidence handing over pick 5 for this that he will have a big impact on stopping key forwards.

J Kennedy - 5.3

Cam Mcarthy 3 goals

J Battle - 3 Goals

J Cameron - 6.3

B Brown - 4.2

M Baguley -3.2 (Daniher out)

Tom McDonald - 5.1

J Riewoldt - 10.6

E Hipwood - 3

These numbers are honestly useless because Gold Coast were so terrible that their backline was so under-siege

They just received 68 from North for Hall

24 and 59 in pick swap from Brisbane.

Once they add 5 in there from us for May those later picks look unusable.

That's why I was saying we need to give them 5 and we will get 29 back

Mitch Cleary reported it, It came from Craig Cameron, which came directly from May himself.

Fremantle you are my no1 enemy now. Stuff the lot of you. We're happy to keep Hogan you idiots, but, we DO have a contingency plan that you're now screwing with. Whatever happens in this TP from here, we are going to bury you and pummel you for the next decade. No mercy. #raisehell

GCS will just wait and see if 5 comes to them.  They are in no hurry.  How silly would they look if they traded for 7 but 5 was available.

so it is just a bit of general posturing from cameron to create an illusion of competition to keep the price high. nothing really new or unusual here

Certainly makes it very hard to determine his worth.

GC need to bank points for next year...

5 & 2019 second for May & 24

Surely all part of the theatre that FoxFooty 7-9 tomorrow night will culminate.

If you put Oscar Mcdonald in the gold coast team you can double those numbers mate

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
