Paul Connors spoke at an Old Xavs golf day yesterday and said Lever will be a Demon, and he will be the highest paid player at the club.

He also specifically mentioned that it is a very interesting move as he manages Petracca who, next year, might be asking for similar money.

Depends on how the payments are structure - just as an example Lever might be front ended and Trac could end up being back ended.

Also would love to have that problem where Trac is demanding that type of money. Would have had a massive 2018....

Who would be the Dees highest paid player??? Jones or Hogan or someone else? Approx 800k?? I can't see too many demanding big money right now

When was the last time we traded in a top 50 player?  Hibberd certainly wasn't top 50 when we signed him...

I knew he was and i reckon half of TWSNBN knew he was......

I think the new EBA is 20% raise first year but up to 30% by year 3.

salary cap is up 20% in total

anything you are alluding to re the early years of contract would only be minimum contract values

we are hardly talking about minimums here :D

Connors has said this not because it is TRUE. He has said it because the more he says it, the more likely these players will recieve higher offers, and his 30 pieces of silver might become 31 or 32. It is propoganda designed for LEVERage.

Hope that isn't correct!   Especially as earlier this year Lewis was encouraging the young guys to stick together as a team even if it means forfeiting some money along the way.

We have quite a few top end players to accommodate:  Petracca, Oliver, Gawn, Viney, McD, Hogan who will all be looking for big $$ in the next two years.  There will be clubs out there making big offers to those guys even if they don't have elite years.  Will be hard to keep the team together if they are all looking for near $1m contracts!

And our next tier (Tyson, Brayshaw, Hunt, ANB, Garlett etc) need to be looked after as well.

Lets face it, everyone whose worth a decent quid gets squeezed into their Club somewhere. Look at Collingwood, Geelong, Essendon and Richmond. They have been doing it blatantly for years and they all have their benefactors, either over the back fence, in the rubbish bin, university degree or tax/bankman extraordinaire.

That's a bit unprofessional I would've thought.

Petracca, Gawn, McD and Hogan are not worth that much money (yet) and Viney and Oliver still have to prove themselves over time (though Oliver has done a remarkable job to date).

Lever has comfortably outperformed all those guys bar Oliver to date I would say.

It's going from $10.37m in 2016 to $13.54m in 2022.

http://m.afl.com.au/news/2017-06-20/players-get-20-per-cent-pay-rise-in-new-cba

and "and the player salary cap from $10.37m to $12.45m." next year" which is approx 20%

by 2022 (5 years) it gets to 30%, so a smart manager could ask for a variable yearly contract starting at extra 20% and rising to 30% if the new contract was at least 5 years

so what would be now a 650K contract,  would be equivalent to 780K in  year 1 rising to 845K in year 5

of course one could use an averaged out figure between those limits, plus it could be front or rear ended etc

lever is young, so i'd expect he'd probably go for a 4 year contract

3.2M over 4 years (maybe front-ended) seems about right to me

He is, but his signing was hardy 'HUGE' at the time.  If we land Lever it'll be the first time in god knows how long that a top line player picks us.

I can't think of one since......Peter Moore

Did Paul Connors really say this? My mail tells me its far from a done deal.

If Connors did say this he has gone very early with it and is thinking wishfully

Yes strong source. Info was given Monday of last week. Can't see that much would have changed in last 8 days.

What about the pies? It has gone very quite the last few days regarding them. I hope it's not going to be like the Franklin situation where every body had him going to gws only to find out it was the swans all a long.

It's got me a bit worried.

Pies worry me as well. Interestingly 2 high profile journalists given info at same time as me (only 4 people in the room). We all left with the feeling Lever probably wouldn't be a Demon. However I have see both of them talking up the Demons chances since. I find it surprising and hope they know something I don't. Fingers crossed

That'll be the case with Kelly. Everybody wrongly assumes he goes to North because of the monstrous, offer only to be pipped at the post by the Dees, with Kelly deciding, he wants to play with his mates at MFC (for less). Dreaming? Absolutely

If Petracca has a break out season there may be a bidding way for him.

If I were Kelly and heard Lever was coming to MFC, I would take unders to come here. If Kelly and Lever were to come to the club - we would be a dynasty side.

Didn't some guy phone SEN i think it was? and said both Lever and Kelly were coming to us?

And that's exactly why he might be traded, particularly if (out of left field) we may be able to snare Menzel for less than a sheep station.
