Thats a Broad accusation to make....

No accusation at all, all 22 premiership players a suspects at this stage, until it has been made public, what I am saying is if it is him then they will not win another flag if he is guilty then he is sacked, like I said it could be anyone, but he would make the biggest impact.

You can do that with so many players over the years though. The truth is, we won't know until Lever has played a similar number of games as Rance in his prime, and a similar age.

He is already the best intercept mark in the game. Pretty close to the best intercept spolier as well. Clean disposal. Future Leader.

Id say he is more than on his way.

No offence but it's a stupid question given their difference in age and games experience.

As another poster has already indicated, Lever is tracking slightly ahead if not on par with Rance at the same age.

They have a slightly different skill set but defensively speaking, they both possess amazing intercept ability, ball killing/spoiling ability and are extremely aggressive in the air. Those three attributes are the most important for defenders imo.

Lever will be one of the best KP defenders in the league within a few years.

What, like Oscar?

This was talked about on SEN yesterday. They said Level is on par if not ahead of Rance when they were at the same age.

Absolutely has the potential to be a 10 year, A grade defender for us.

Was this done on purpose?

The thread isn't about Oscar STMJ, give it a rest.

My point is that premature comparisons to champions of the game have been made many times before, and not realised. Lever is playing some really good footy at the moment, and hopefully he continues on that trajectory. If he does he'll certainly be up there.

I hope Lever can maintain this years form when he is in red and blue - the players around him won't be of the same calibre as at Adelaide and he probably won't be playing as a third tall. There'll be more responsibility.

He is not a Key Defender. He Is a intercept mark. He is very good for that job. He plays more like Jeremy McGovern probably a little better at it.

So it would also be fair to assume that as Oscar has been a regular player in his second and third year in the AFL system, that he does in fact ‘belong on an AFL field’.

wrong. he has regularly shown to be a deer in the headlights and a poor decision maker.

I don't get it....

There is talk that Melbourne are considering giving up 1st pick for 2017 and 2018. If we agree to Adelaide’s demands then it shows that our recruiting department have no idea.

Grow some balls, stick by your original plan and make Adelaide sweat that lever will walk away for nothing. As it stands at the moment lever isn’t even in your top ten best players... only a top 10 player in the whole league is worth 2 first picks

I don’t mind the deal for two picks if we get one back. Not really a believer in the super draft idea.

I have read the replies thus far, personally two first draft picks is a bit rich. I recall when we played Adelaide in SA after giving them a start we wiped them off the park.  I went to that game and Lever had little to no impact we just cut through their defence.  Don't know how good he is,  he played ok in the grand final but how good is he really a lot of potential but 2 first round draft picks hmmmm. Don't forget we gave up the majority of our picks in the 2016 draft meaning that for 3 consecutive we won't have a first round pick, wow he better be worth it

Adelaide are in no position to negotiate. Either take what Melbourne gives you or the kid walks into the draft and Melbourne get him for free.

Whilst it hasn't happened yet (to my recollection) - if he walks into the draft it is not a lock that we will get him. The likes of Collingwood and Bulldogs will get first crack at him. No-one needs to trade for him - the clubs lower than us just have to convince him that their club is a good fit and they can meet his financial demands.

People should also remember that 2006 was supposedly a "superdraft" year.

Gumbleton and Hanson went 2 and 3.

Leuenberger and Mitch Thorp at 4 and 6.

There are a host of others who went inside the top 20 who are far from household names.

Lever is proven quality already and is only going to get better. Why do posters care so much about draft picks?

If we give away two first-rounders and receive either 18 or 19 from Adelaide (on-traded from Brisbane) + an exchange of later picks, we'll be dancing.

But if we're allowed to invent and praise achievements for players, though they have in fact not achieved that, can't we just say 'Oscar McDonald - Brownlow Medalist'???

I say just get the deal done and worry about trading back into the first round next year. Lever will make our entire back half stronger and this will have a flow on effect to the midfield.

not sure, but IMO a Pulley is better than a Lever and a Wrench is better than a Rance

Im not that witty.

Adelaide should back what their Captain put out there about Lever going for Money and not Success.  2017 and 18 pick plus 2nd this year for Lever and Adelaides 1st round 2018, Walker is confident they are better than us in 2018 so lets make it interesting as a bit of a side bet

That's generally what happens when someone doesn't play.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
