When Lever said - 'I will go into the draft' - we gained leverage. When we found out about how the Crows acted when meeting with Mahoney and Viney we gained leverage, with him being disinvited from the B+F we gained leverage (perception in press only - makes it harder for them to stonewall), and when he polled outside the top 10 we gained leverage.

ND10 and ND45 or a pick swap in the second round.

We acted in good faith with offering a fair trade and their petulance should not be rewarded.

We've already put picks 10 and 27 on the table.  There's zero possibility we'll recant.

I rather see him go into the PSD and head somewhere else if they dont accept 10 and 27.

Hes a good player but hes not worth two 1st's, even Dangerfield was not traded for two 1st.

Adelaide are so pist off because they know how good he's going to be.

He plays the modern zoning game to perfection.  He reads the play better than anyone else, he knows exactly the right time to leave his own man, and he either takes a brilliant intercept mark, or kills the contest with his fist of fury.  He's not fast, but he is agile, he usually hits his targets by foot, and he's renowned in Adelaide for his sidestep.  He also has courage.

We're talking about a guy who is 13 days older than Oscar McDonald.  How much improvement has Oscar still got ?  Lever's the same, only far more talented.  Oscar can play with Lever for the next 8 years and he'll learn from him.  Lever spent 3 years with Talia, which will only help.

And let's not forget that Lever was made captain of Vic Metro as a bottom age player, i.e. too young to be drafted that year.  Let that sink in.  How many bottom age players are chosen to captain their state ?  He captained Petracca and would also know Brayshaw well.

This is a terrific coup for the MFC.

How come Lever was told to stay away from the b&f but Charlie Cameron was allowed to go even though he said he wants a trade back home?

Maybe because Charlie is still contracted and they will make him stay? Also, he's indigenous and didn't want to disrespect him? I don't know, just adding some potential reasons.

When bargaining and your offer is rejected that doesn't then set the bar at the minimum offered, it was rejected.  Start again, and whatever new comes to light (e.g not top 10 in the BF) take into account. I don't think we'll recant, doesnt mean we can't or shouldn't.

I think you're making it basic mate.

We're getting fugged about by the Crows and the player who wants to come to our club is being treated like he was some type of cancer.

They're changing the goal posts so we should too.

They have changed anything. They didn't want him to go, they know he will now and they are cracking the sads. We should have waited until later to make such a offer

That's great, mate, but imo there's not a hope in hell they'll do that.

They also want to do the right thing by Lever, who's shown good faith in selecting the MFC as his club of choice.  The club won't want Lever, or his manager thinking we're playing funny buggers.  This is why we made a good offer to start with.

You're welcome to a different view.

Where did you hear this and is it true? I'd love to have watched it! Belting the crap out of each other.

Not at the risk of another club getting in first. We've been working on this for the last couple of years. The $'s were strong to ward off the sniffers (Colliwobbles et al). We taken a strong stance and everyone knows we're now a destination club!

Adelaide seem to forget they got picks 9, 28 and Dean Gore in return for Patrick Dangerfield and pick 50.

Lever for 10 and 27 seems about the same mark ( and Danger was and is probably a better player)

The Cows will probably need the AFL to explain this to them in the simplest possible terms during the next 10 days.

Beyond Jakes role, is another train of thought that he frees up Hunt to ‘break lines’ and hit targets further up the ground on a wing? Is that too simplistic?

Adelaide fans retort to that is that Dangermouse was a free agent the following year so they didn’t have leverage to demand more.

The crows have proven themselves to be the most petulant, unprofessional club with dealing with this issue. I have a bad feeling this will drag for almost the entire trade week. I really do think our offer of picks 10 + 27 is fair however if we are able to trade to a lower second round pick I’d be happy to give that instead of 27.

This is a guy that they lowballed from that start and then didn’t even poll in their top ten B&F. How they can claim two first rounders is mind boggling.

The club can now argue that he didn't even poll in Adelaide's B&F top 10, so why would they offer more?

Obviously, a few of his votes were taken out. What a poor and unprofessional way to handle his departure.

He did miss 5 games, doesn't look too unusual really.

Lever has already publicly said he is willing to 'go into the draft' if the Crows stonewall. I have never heard a player be so frank about going into the draft - so he is obviously aware that the Cows are the ones playing funny buggers.

There's no way they'll make their offer worse.

It's fanciful to think so.

the table hasnt been set. Adelaide cant even be bothered sitting at it. You might rethink a tad.

Its more than likely 10 and 27 WILL be spent.  But until they are you cant KNOW they will.

There's nothing binding about 'talk"  that's just Life "101"

The Croweaters are beligerent.. The scene has already been discussed no end I imagine.  The 'out' is the  draft. Adelaide should be in no ignorance of this by now.  Yes it's an ambit play but one we could enact..and win. We don't want to be seen as ungamely so offer effectively "overs'

The art of the deal...is to always be prepared to walk away...next best thing...upset the table.

Do you deal in a world where things are hard set..or fluid ProDee. I wonder.

This has been going on for months. Time to end game it

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
