Something around that ball park should satisfy Adelaide.

That's quite frankly ridiculous.

Tyson won't leave melbourne, we won't trade him.

Even if they offered a straight swap

Why?

Everyone is suggesting we trade 1st rounder + ANB for Lever. If the roles were reversed, and the Crows were offering a 1st rounder + a player of ANB's caliber for Oliver would we take it?

Of course not. People need to take off their rose coloured glasses and start coming up with realistic trade options. Lever is a future captain, AA defender. Someone like Tyson is an accumulator with hardly any damaging disposals. It's a matter of need over want.

For the first time in a very long time i have complete faith in the judgement of the football department when it comes to recruitment and trades.

Whilst there a many factors at play (eg pay scales, contract status of list, culture, perceived risk of lever continuing to suffer hammy injuries, refusal to pay overs etc) their offer to lever will give us an indication of a couple of things (assuming of course we get wind of the ball park figure and length of contract).

It will give some objective measure of how highly they rate lever and also of where they see their most need. On the second point it will be interesting to see who they target if they dont land lever.

If collingwood get him they will be paying overs, as they did with mayne. Happy for the dees to nor get in a bidding war with the pies

Let's just deal with facts for now rather than individual Utopian views.

So let's say it'll be pick 10 and Tyson for Lever and pick 36.

Tyson has his knockers about butchering the pill a bit but there's no doubt he's one of our best ball winners in the team. I think Dom has got immense improvement left in him and is a key player type to execute our game plan.

Lever looks great and probably deserves our first rounder but not one of our top line mids as well - I wouldn't even give ANB as part of the deal.

For all of the posters gushing over Lever there's a few that also recognise he plays in a defence that has an AA defender in Talia and another big bloke in Hartigan and a jet in Laird.

I just think you're proposal is way overs mate.

The difference is Lever wants out and is out of contract, if he nominates dees the crows either take what we offer or they get nothing. Its a balancing act as you want to keep a good relationship with other team in case the shoe is ever on the other foot and if he nominated for the draft we would need to use a first round pick anyway, so that becomes the starting point.  Ideally you find a player on our list who is looking for more opportunity and we can afford to lose, a number of our inside mids fill this criteria (ANB the obvious choice, Tyson doesn't as clearly unless you think he is on the way out.) Then add a pick on top and deal done, depending on the quality of the player going with it this would vary but any best 22 player shouldn't need to be paired with a with a round 1

I even think its overs. I completely agree. What annoys me is that posters are touting lever as the 'best key defender of all time, a future captain; when he will be in his prime, then going on to just be happy giving Adelaide a 1st round player and steak knives.

Reminds me of 2004 when Scott Thompson requested a trade to SA.

Reluctantly we accepted pick 12 from the Crows and he went on to be an All Australian and play 300+ games.

There's the precedent.

No, she's also from Melbourne and is part of the reason he is weighing up a move back south.

There is no precedent at the MRP, or when the shoe is on the other foot.

Also at the time Scott left, he was seeking a compassionate release for a family issue.

Not sure we ever found out what that issue was, or if there even was one.

However, if indeed there was an issue, we did the right thing.

The reverse of the Gibbs situation. That could help. Goose/gander.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
