Perfect!!!

Suspect the Crows will see Lever >>>>> Gibbs.

Agreed. You don't put a player such as Brayshaw on the table unless the target is an out and out gun. Lever's good but not that good.

I didn't realize Lever was key position

This ^^

Midfield wins games IMO.

We have lots of youth and potential in our midfield but I'd prefer to trade for another experienced A grade mid than a key back.

Having said that, I would not be unhappy to see Lever at the Dees.

'Lever to Demons' sounds like a sitcom.

nup. not calling for brayshaw's trading either; just that as a clearly highly-rated player he may have value.

Not asking about Brayshaw because not a person on this site would want him "delisted", but plenty thought Hunt's time was up.

If you'd just said, "No, I was happy retaining Hunt", no further questions would have been asked.

I can't be bothered searching the archives to make sure.

Brayshaw is going to be a gun. Trading him would be insane. Why this forum needs to descend into cannibalizing our own list constantly is completely beyond me.

Pass on Lever, and let Jason Taylor and the team work their draft magic with a full set of picks to use...

In addition to young guns via the draft, we are entering the window where we can attract quality free agents who'll slot straight in.

Trading picks or our gun players for other gun players should be our last resort.

Exactly, I was really tired after a full week at work, thought I had fallen asleep and woken up at the end of September

If the club rate Lever or think we need him Taylor, Viney and Mahoney will do the best thing by the club

Not gonna happen. Carlton will want two top picks for Gibbs and will probably not want Bugg, despite SOS' involvement.

Not being a big Oscar fan (yet) I started to get caught up in the idea of upgrading to Jake Lever.  Then I thought - well is it? Not watching other games very closely I thought I'd do a Footywire stats comparison for 2016.  Looks as though we'd be paying a lot for what we already have - at least statistically.  Is there an X factor that doesn't show up here that I'm missing, or is it just a grass is greener view that us supporters have? Jake has an even higher 'clanger' average.

Good post Palace.

Said before that while Lever is a good young prospect his disposal by foot can actually be quite poor. Saw alot of adelaide games last year and some of his turnovers even without pressure were atrocious. Adelaide fans will say that while he is a decent prospect he needs to work on this area.

I dont think Lever is what we need. We still need to continue to top up on midfield depth and a Ruckman/forward. I have enough confidence in Frost Smith Wagner Oscar and Hibberd to hold our backline together once they are all fit.

I have a very high opinion of Lever and he would be a great addition to any team.  Trading him in would be a luxury, not necessarily addressing an urgent need.

With that said, I think that OMac and Frost are very promising long term KPD options for us going forward.  We also tend to forget how young TMac is- hasn't even reached his peak yet.

Omac is tracking fine. With another couple of preseasons and increased core/upper body strength, he'll become they second key back we need. More games and strength will help him.

We really need an experienced A grade midfielder to come in next year. They aren't easy to get, but I'd be having a big crack at Fyfe or Dusty. Cost us a packet, but as FAs we'd still have our draft picks. Unless we are forced to trade for them...

Tells me Adelaide's midfield works a lot harder than ours. As our midfield progresses, and it's making great gains, we'll find Oscar becomes even sturdier as a defender.

He stills plays a bit like ANB, in that he can panic, but I suspect that's an experience thing.

Agree with the sentiment, Moonie, but not the targets. I'd be having a big crack at a Dylan Shiel (he is out of contract at the end of 2017). Quick, ball magnet, perfect age bracket (ready to explode) and disposal is improving. Dusty and Fyfe are too expensive and Shiel is two years younger than both.

Like it. Shiel isn't a FA, I think, so we'd have to trade. Still bite into our sc a lot

Dylan Shiel is probably one of their best midfielders after Toby Greene. Would not come cheap and could therefore upset the salary balance in the midfield

Yep, we'd have to trade, but if we can convince him to nominate us, that'll go a long way to a deal being done. Given our good trading history with GWS, I reckon we could get the deal done. The way they're intent on spreading the age of their list, I wonder if GWS would take our next two first rounders? At this point, I'd back Jason Taylor with second and third round picks to keep improving our list.

This would be my biggest concern. Would Shiel be on $500k at GWS? They have a lot of talent to pay to keep them up in that hellhole. I just wonder if that would get it done. It may not. I might be dreaming, but doesn't mean I wouldn't try.

And Toby Greene isn't a midfielder. He's a very, very good half forward. One of the best in the league for the last year, hence the AA wraps, but he isn't a mid.

Edited by A F

gw$ are going to have to lose some more mids.

as we all know, north have thrown the chequebook at kelly. whitfield has long been rumoured to leave for hawthorn. it'll be interesting to see where they go, if they go.

If we are to chase someone like Shiel, then I hope we do it as quietly as possible.  I cringe each time I see how North go about their business by basically throwing huge bucks and contracts at anyone who will listen.  It's pathetic, really.  If we are looking to chase a big fish then I hope we don't allow it to be played out in the media.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
