Salem still unsigned

Good point but out of this years list he is probably the only one (Jake Spencer aside) that would interest other clubs from a bidding viewpoint.

Perhaps they are waiting for the new salary cap info as 2018 is a major year for re-signings.

Salem is a key player going forward if for no other reason than his comparative kicking skills.

Not too worried about him to be honest.  I think he'll sign in the next month or so - that's just my opinion though, not based on anything.

Frost, Stretch and Pedersen are the other ones who you would think are in line for extensions.  Guys like ANB and Kennedy are around the mark, but someone like VandenBerg might be in trouble with his recent injury history, although he will probably get another year.

Salem won't be going anywhere.

Theres about half a dozen others who may or may not be at the MFC in 18. Christian will ;)

I'd like to see anb given another year

Well looks like he won't be playing this year as he has suffered a setback.

This might be a bit easier to follow.

Frost has put off negotiations.  Would expect ANB to be next of the 2017 OOC.  Then early extensions on a batch of the 2018 OOC players as the club spends its $2m CBA bounty and spreads it around a bit.  Will help keep poachers at bay.

Being realistic the 2017 OOC players most at risk are Trengove, Spencer and despite his good work it may be Pedo as Weideman becomes more developed.

We are going to need some serious cash available to keep the key parts of the 2018 expiring list. Gawn, Trac, Jet and the Macca bros won't come cheap! I'm already losing sleep over it....

Or more based on his last 5 games.

Thanks Lucifer for the updates.

Frost a huge priority. ANB next and Vanders and Stretch after that IMO and after the latest CBA, we should be able to up all of their salaries to retain them.

The rest can wait until end of season, although club's decision on Vince (either way) is pretty major. We are finally in the window, so I'd be disappointed if we did not re-contract him for another year.

Tricky decisions on all the rookies - with Maynard the only one who seems to have progressed majorly during year so far - although Tim Smith has been unlucky.

But a lot can happen in the final few weeks, especially when careers are on the line.

The list manager decision on how many bigs it wants to carry is also pretty pivotal, especially with the trend away from dinosaurs.

Interesting that the SA boys haven't been re signed yet....maybe we are looking at someone from SA....

Would it make sense to rookie Spencer next year as back up.

The big call will be on Pederson. If we don't trade for an older KPF/ruck I see him getting one more year. He has been great for the club and deserves to be treated with dignity.

I'd hope that there'll be some more announcements in line with Hunt singing on for an additional 2 last week. They've spoken about making sure there's enough to pay all the guys who are maturing into really good players, so hopefully they get the one's you've mentioned done early cause they'll create the most headlines.

Next year may be a Pedo/ Weed transition year. I'd certainly want Pedo around for 2018.

We've seen how easily and quickly a few injuries can change dynamics.

Frost i'd want signed asap.  Others....dunno... I know some here would want some expeditory with respect to a lot of players but I think the FD might have this in hand. They unlike myself are privy to who might well be coming onboard.

The latest:

4P8cqt7XhhLHQAAAAASUVORK5CYIIA

This weeks changes: Stretch signed up for 2 more years. T Smith signed up for 1 more year.  Note:  Smith's contract extension is as a Rookie.

Of the 2017 OOC I would expect Vince, King, Van d, Frost (if he wants it) and ANB to be signed up before too long.  Just leaves Kennedy, Trengove, Pedersen, Spencer and Hulett as unsigned.  Then some decisions on the rookies who may all be kept for another year.

Interesting trade period coming up.  If my predictions are right, we won't have OOC players with 'trade currency'.  So, unless we trade out recently signed players (which I doubt) we will be trading picks to get the players we have been linked with.

I'd give pedo and spencer another year

Having never seen Hulett play, I would be interested in what others think of his prospects.  Only 20, but doesn't sound like he's been close to selection this year. He was all the rage early last year but receives little to no coverage nowadays.

Has he shown any signs that he could develop into a player?  Even a rookie lost spot?

Why do we have the 2 other young rucks on our list? Is this normal?

Spencer is ready to go at afl level if gawn goes down and pederson is a very handy depth player who will strongly compete for a spot

I wonder how Garland will go next year. Is he in our best team? I'm not sure he is. CAn he play forward?

(In my best Channel Seven commentator's voice)
Did you know he was actually drafted as a forward, Bruce?

What about King and Fil.... whatever his name is. Are these on our list as ruckman and if so is that normal?

It's normal to have that many ruckman, yeah, the other two are very much developing. If Gawn goes down spencer is the back up

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
