Yes. That's why.

I'm happy to see OMac get games. If the coaching staff believe in him then the senior experience will help his development. Our backline is old and we need young talent. To an extent I prefer that young guys get games than to persist with players on the decline.

It might not give us the best chance to win each week but we shouldn't be in win-now mode with the young list we have.

Having said that an element of preservation has to come in to play. There's not much of Oscar and he's only 20. I'd like to see him rotated in and out of the team a little more so he can recover and avoid a long-term injury.

Same applies to Harmes.

How on earth is our backline old?

He’s played six games and there aren’t too many key position defenders in the competition, with probably the exception of [Carlton’s Jacob] Weitering, that are doing everything right

Jade Rawlings
EVERYTHING RIGHT EH JADE ???
This is the greatest load of sheeeeit I have ever ever heard!
Without doubt! but hang on, Jade Rawlings was a forward, so he should know ???
PROPAGANDA ALIVE AND WELL IN 2016!

Go away. We all know your point. No need to keep screeching like a parrot.

Hood luck to him in front of hopefully 80,000. Hope they boys all pull of a solid win.

O'Mac  is a better proposition than Dunn and Galand,it would be unfair to give those two false hope knowing that the chop could occur at year's end. I think giving Hurley a contract could prove to be a disaster considering he hasn't played for a year and he will come as a cost.

I agree re Hurley Enyaw. And O'Mac is ahead of the others in the club's eyes which makes me realize how shite our backline is. I think Richmond's may be worse, maybe Brisbane's but I'm struggling to think of another. Essendon?

Hard to give Garlo the chop at year's end when he was re-signed not so long ago. And who'd want him in a trade?

Amazing to think our defence has three blokes who've played half a dozen games each.

Starting to get pretty excited about these demons.

Burgo's interviews are a waste of time, let's be honest. Always the same questions and routine head nodding.

Oscar is a lot more laid back in the latest edition of the Demons podcast. Well worth a listen.

This thread should be nuked for the insanity of writing off a key posiiton teenager who is looking very good today in just his 7th game

Hahaha..

This from the guy who reckons Garlett has "stopped trying" since his contract extension. Remarkable stuff.

This kid is great along with Petracca,Oliver,Hunt ,Wagner,Frost,Brayshaw Kennedy etc etc.

Big improvement and seems to get better each game which is a positive.

His kicking is actually quite elite for a tall backman.

Improving drastically each passing week. Remarkable what experience can do to a player!

Continues to play solid footy. Needs to build his core strength, but he'll get there.

And that's all we need to ask of him right now, to play solid footy.  He's spoiling well, getting to the right positions and using it well on the rebound.  We can't ask for much more than that.

Agreed. He's making his way nicely.

Probably his best game today.

Read the ball in flight, impacted contests and was good with his disposal.

He, his big bro and Frost should be the key position defenders for us going forward.

Obviously if we can shake a Hurley free then happy days, but otherwise it's O Mac and co who will lead the way forward for us from the backline.

I got to the ground early today and was interested to see the Skipper, Petracca and none other than young Oscar taking extended shots at goal.  nice to see.  (from memory he was an underage forward)

If we can teach him to body spoil - he really should have learnt some of this by now - then it's a matter of composure for him I think.

The skills can come, the effort is there, he moves well and reads the play.

Still would love to see a backline general type help him. He was on Pendles whilst Hunt was on White at one stage and they didn't swap (maybe for structures) and Pendles set up a goal. The mistakes like that are mental errors that a young backline can fix so they'll all benefit.

AFL site:

"His brother Oscar was also very good in defence, playing his best game for Melbourne, outpointing the Magpies' tall forwards when the football hit the ground."

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
