I started following the Dees as a small kid around the very early 70's.  Over that time I can remember players from every club coming to the MFC, except Hawthorn.  Obviously I can remember plenty of Melbourne players going to the Hawks, including Michael Byrne, who kicked about 8 on debut, but not players from Hawthorn coming to Melbourne.  Until Lewis.

Who have I missed ?

And I know the reasons, as Hawthorn were winning Grand Finals in the 70's, 80's and onwards, so why come to Melbourne (unless you couldn't get a game with them).

I'm sure there would be players way back in the day, but from the 1960's or so onwards I can't think of another player from Hawthorn coming to the Dees.

Who have I missed ?  There's probably someone obvious, but presently they escape me.

Grant Williams & Robert Campbell

Williams never played a senior game for Hawthorn and Campbell never played a senior game for Melbourne.

Right now we're left with David Flintoff's solitary game with Hawthorn as a Hawks Dee..

Now now Ben, I'm sure you have researched the [censored] out of this before starting the thread. Don't be a dick like the riddler - give us some names.

The point to made here by PD is that it is a big deal Lewis coming to Melbourne and that reflects the change in perception that has occurred for the first time in the last 50 years.

Flintoff was recruited from Central Districts, he left Hawthorn in 83, played 4 years in SA and we signed him up in 88

And he actively sought out Melbourne, and no other club, despite finishing 2nd in the Hawks B&F and being touted as a future Captain of the club and still being contracted to the club.

Hardly coming to the Dees as a last resort move. It is genuinely a big deal. A very big deal.

Wonder what Frawley's thinking.

Ok, so he didn't come directly from Hawthorn to Melbourne.

But he did play a senior game for Hawthorn before Melbourne and I couldn't think of anybody that had.

And no @Bitter but optimistic, genuine question.  I was thinking about it after we got Lewis and couldn't think of any.

I can only think of Michael Kol from Geelong, but Hawthorn had me stumped.

Moloney was a cat. I'm sure there are others.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
