We are desperate for experience. Jones and Vince are the only mids in the team to have played more than 100 games and Vince is already spending a lot of time down back. We are desperate for a good experienced leader to guide and teach all the young talent we have and a four time premiership player who just got second in the BnF of a good club would fill that role very nicely. 

Would you prefer all those young mids learn from Vince or Lewis?

Pace and class can come from someone else, we could do another trade for that elusive person this year as well and have both.

Yes, but we do need pace and skills. The final series showed how much speed, skills and intensity now means. The Dogs were phenomenal in this department. It meant more than experience. We have a few speedsters but not enough looking at the Dogs, GWS and the Swans. We need a group of line breakers not one or two. Otherwise, we may be more competitive but will left behind in the foot race against those 3 sides. 

How did Hawks win all those flags with all these slow one-paced midfielders? Burgoyne/Hodge/Lewis/Mitchell/earlier Sewell

some of the comments on here are hilarious. easy enough to compliment a midfield with outside speed like hawks did with Smith and Hill

if we got Lewis for a 3rd rounder it would be a steal!  he is being grouped in with the oldies like Mitchell but is 4 years younger than him.  2 year deal with clauses for a third would be great.

Agreed but they are two different holes that need filling. Unless we can find one person who is a vastly experienced key back/ruck/forward/ fast outside mid with class then we aren't going to fill all the holes we have with one person.

Third round? Mitchell only worth 88. So Lewis must be around that mark. The interesting thing is the Hawks must think O'Meara's knee is ok to go through all this pain to get him. They will need to do some fancy talking now.

I'm unensthused by Lewis.

If it goes on into next week, I'd love to see the Dees make serious enquiries. Sure, he's nominated Hawks, but I'd much rather OMeara over Jerry Lewis, pending medical. First and second rounder next year, or the like? Might make it pick 11 and 30 in what is suggested to be a bumper 2017 draft.

His 2016 form was very good and while people are complaining that we already have his 'type', it's arguable that his 2016 form would place him in our top 2-3 midfielders; it's hard to say no that.  Couple that with his experience and you have a very tempting package.  If you ever wonder how Hawthorn always seem to find a way to win the close ones... well it's experienced, hardened player like Lewis.

At his age, with his experience and talent, we are looking at finals next year - and the exact level of organic improvement from our youngsters.

Lewis would have earnt his salary if he helped stem the flow of Gibbs & Cripps in round 22 and we would have gone into round 23 with a finals hope and played much differently.

I wouldn't have thought so given we had heard nothing at all from him or his manager. The only comment has been from the HFC who is saying is a required player - which they would say if they have indeed changed their position and are now keen to keep him (by the by i liked the idea fro a poster that a back flip lands you in the same position so shouldn't be used in this context).

As i have said previously he is slow so that's an issue (and no doubt one of the reasons the hawks might have considered trading him) but he is a brilliant kick, and a leftie to boot (pardon the pun) and we have serious lack of good kicks, which with our game plan has major implications.

Think of all our woeful entries into our forward 50 this year, not to mention turnovers across the half back and center lines. There were a a number of games we would have won if we had taken full advantage of or high inside 50 counts by doing the basics well and hitting open players or putting to the forward's advantage (a basic footy skill thta it seems only salem and watts master at the dees)

Lewis would became our equal best user with Watts (with Salem not too far behind). Hogan would love to be getting service from Lewis.

If youve seen Macrae, Libba, Wallis, Boyd, Bont, they are not quick or renowned for their 'running speed' - they move the ball quick, something Lewis is used to from Hawks.

Biggs Johannisen types are what helps the dogs speed - our equivalent is Hunt, and we're probably looking to generate that with some HB's.

We have Frost and Hunt that help our speed. We just need to add another and we'll be sitting pretty. But the important point you make RABF is that speed of ball movement does not rely on the having pace. It's kicking skills. Salem, Hibberd and even Wagner IMO strengthen this area.

Absolutely for this! 

Just wrapped how the club goes about its work but also that a player like Lewis would want to come to the Dee's.  My god, how things have changed, no longer the poor pathetic lame duck club that people laugh, sneer or disparage. Feeling proud to be Melbourne.
