Hard work ahead. Only the players willing to sacrifice that extra will make it.

Beveridge started his career as a Demon under Swooper. He was a good player, not special.

But he sure knows how to get the best out of a bunch of kids ( with really bad haircuts)

Luke's apprenticeship under Clarkson clearly did him wonders too. I reckon he's a different kind of coach though.

I agree to an extent. But nothing less than the 8 next year is acceptable though. I think we can do it. It'll be interesting to see the new things Goodwin brings to the table in 2017.

Sure. We aim for the 8. But efforts like Round 2 and 22 must be unacceptable. This club has done that crap for decades.

Having watched the dogs this last month we are so far behind them we cannot hear the band.

They have heart that we have have not had for 50 years.

perhaps in five years time.

This result doesn't feel right to me. Absolutely exploiting the rules with throwing and ducking. Umpires paying all 50/50's to the Dogs. Seems like the WWF. Fabricating a narrative for commercial success

It's the reason I was hoping for a Swans win today. Even given the advantages Sydney have been gifted, seeing Toby the duck McLean, his rugby passing team mates, and slope head Stringer waltzing around with a premiership medallion around their necks kills any joy I should be feeling for them.

Of course, winners are grinners.

If this result shows us anything it's that if every player buys into the coach & club anything is possible, forget if your not one of the big clubs, if you've only got 40,000 members & you haven't won a flag for 60+ years. If you want it bad enough you'll get there. I am so jealous of the Dogs (part of me wanted the swans to win) because they are like us a small club that's known tough times. If it makes me want to win one that badly I can only hope the Melbourne players feel that X 100. Over to you now Goodwin & players.

I don't care being a Dees fan, but I thought the umpiring was the worst in GF living memory.

The Dogs were given an armchair ride and with the Hawks, have been for years.

Get your hand off it Tyson. Your talking about a club that had their captain leave for GWS, a Brownlow Medalist looking for greener pastures in Ess. They then get a coach that put belief in his boys to turn this club around when it seemed people were leaving. Amazing effort from a battling club, and you say this dribble.

Against a side that the AFL look after, one year they get Tippett, the next year Franklin, had COLA for god knows how long. And the Dogs beat this side with a hell of a lot of injuries throughout the year. Simply amazing, play with heart for their club and coach.

My sentiments exactly. The thing about Melbourne is that we've won 12, so I doubt you'd see the same universal support like you saw for the Bulldogs.

And I know I'm biased, but it'd be terrific for the game if Melbourne won another flag. It'd just mean another strong Melbourne club with a chance of becoming a powerhouse like Hawthorn have done. Then you'd have Collingwood, Essendon, Carlton, Richmond, Hawthorn and Melbourne. A big 6.

Well, I can dream anyway. That day is going to be bloody sweet though.

More likely that the Dogs become a big club.  They have a massive catchment in the west.  If they can capitalise on on this success they could change their whole profile.

To me it's clear what we have to work on over summer; our flick passes and our ducking.

Taking nothing away from the dogs,  they have heart, but they also skirt the edge of cheating. Especially that little ducker McLean.

Also I hope you guys who doubt the need for a big bodied forward take note of Boyd's performance today. U can't put a price on an impact player that can stand up and take a grab when needed!

Don't disagree with your thrust, but Cooney was moved on by the Dogs and Griffen was a soft and reluctant Captain. They got Boyd, a 19 year old number one pick a year earlier, for Griffen. Those players leaving helped the Dogs and don't need to be used in your argument.

This sums up how I feel. It wasn't in the spirit of the game. Look at how in 2008, the rushed behinds completely stemmed the momentum of the Cats. I know i'm probably clouded with salty emotion but this just feels like the beginning of another era where a coach has learned to exploit the rules and will probably win more premierships while other club struggle to adapt to a new type of game style. RugbyFL

Today it felt like Sydney winning was more of a fairytale to prevent an nevitable new premiership dog dynasty getting 'an early one' with new rules exploits.

I'm happy because it's a big "STICK IT UP EM!" moment.

The only question mark was awarding bulldogs a bye after last round. Takes away all reward for high ladder positions. Rewards the nothing to lose attitude.

Were also soft targets for Ward and Griffin but got bold and smart with Boyd.

They made their own luck and have shown other clubs what's possible buy rejecting helplessness,

FFS, I've heard it all now. Every club had a bye. You do realise that if they lost against WCE they were out? The sides that finished higher had the double chance.
