BROWNLOW MEDAL COUNT 2016

McQueen

Recommended Posts

It was infuriating that the broadcast was full of so much padding that the important part of the night i.e. the reading of the votes was rushed to the point of being unintelligible. The count needs to start at 8 as well. And where the hell did they dig up that singer LLoyd from. Atrocious

Advertising ruins everything.

I was more interested in the fashions than the count and there was little time for either.

I love an elegant frock.

Viney - 15

Tyson - 11

Watts - 8

Hogan - 7

exchange tyson and jones and I was pretty close.   although that means that I agree with the umps so probably should not brag

interesting to see Viney was not at the event.  Word is he will attend next year to collect his medal

A candid commentary on proceedings:  http://www.foxsports.com.au/news/afl-outsider-brett-geeves-on-brownlow-2016-red-carpet-and-dangerfields-victory/news-story/0316816b9091aa53377a0a5aef9fabef  I think we would all agree with this:

"..And then there’s the Brownlow Medal. — the award for the best and fairest midfielder of the season...The biggest test in this theory was Round 20 when Melbourne beat Hawthorn and Max Gawn got the two votes with Jack Viney collecting the three.

I haven’t seen a more dominant ruck game than the masterclass Gawn put on that day...He was the reason Melbourne won that game and it’s disappointing that he was not rewarded with BOG honours. It only furthers the perception that this is an exclusive midfielders award'.

Seriously, I wonder if the backchat Max gave the umpire (forgotten which game) when he belted the ball away after a bad centre bounce and the umpire challenged him with 'what did you do that for' and Max said 'because its my job', cost him votes thereafter.  Wouldn't put it past them!

Oh, there is a delightful video in that article of kids interviewing some places...Lily interviewing Max is priceless!

You would hope that it wouldn't, because I thought that incident was well with 'the spirit if the game' ... But then, as you point out, they are umpires.

Do not forget that the umpires are a protected species that the AFL will not tolerate any bad word said against them.

Gawn's reaction after getting robbed every round is gold. Pretty much the only semi entertaining thing about the most boring thing on TV since a Ross Lyon press conference.

Are you serious?!  Rossy's pressers are absolute gold.  Treats the journo's inane questions in the way they deserve and always comes up with comedy gems.  "Rebuild?  Nah, we re-stump, we re-wire, we re-plumb, but we don't rebuild"

Yeah his pressers are no where near the boredom of watching his game plans.

They must have looked at their watch after that because they raced through the last 7 rounds in about 15 minutes

I turned it on at 11pm just in time to hear the last round. Saved myself a few hours of rubbish.

Well he got 27 disposals and kicked 3 goals that day in a completely dominant performance and only got 2 votes... He got BOG votes a couple of times but his 2 best games he didnt get rewarded. Its more than just a midfielders award its a clearance award. You dont see wingman win it, it always seems to be a player dominating clearances. Umpires just pick the player that got the ball first

The biggest disgrace of the night was when they stopped showing highlights of all the games.

Dees won a game after the siren (gold coast) and they didnt even mention it.

And yet it took 15 hours to do 15 rounds

Im not sure that was as bad as having a sheep in a suit bleating 'Amazing' to the retirees

The most overrated Brownlow victory of all time. If I read one more report that it may well be the most dominant season from a player 'I'll spew'. All it proves is that umpires now gush over number of possessions rather than what you do with the ball. No doubt that he's a great player but best season of all time... horseshite.

It's actually not a bad song.

They should've just played the album version though.

He literally destroyed his own song with that live performance.

The Brownlow medal count is organised by the same people who put on the Grand Final 'entertainment'. Enough said. :)

Was thinking the same thing.

When was the last time they actually had a decent show?

The NRL do it so much better.

That montage over 'Amazing' was an embarrassing send off for the retiring players.

Why didn't they just do a slideshow and play 'Time of Your Life?

cos that would've been reaaaaally lame.. they should've got the remaining members of the doors (probably only one left now, on keyboards) to play an extended version of 'the end'.

Gawn's game along with a couple of Danger's were probably three of the most dominant individual performances through the year. I don'think the AFL wanted anyone other than Danger to win the Brownlow, who incidentally didn't miss the sponsors at the end of it. Almost methodically professional was the spiel

One more titbit was how i would have had at least three other Swans, Hannebery, Franklin and Kennedy in front of Luke.. good paying quinella i suppose...muse, muse..

This year is not a write-off, I don't concede that. Not at all." — Collingwood President Jeff Browne. I love this sort of optimism from the Magpie President after his club’s eleven goal defeat at the hands of the fast rising Hawks. It’s consistent with the fighting spirit of the club that won last year’s flag.  I only wish I could say the s

    FEARS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne’s worst fears about the absence of Max Gawn were realised when it received a shellacking from Fremantle’s ruckmen Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson who dominated the hit out tally in their game at Optus Stadium on Sunday by a massive 47 to 19. As a result, the 50-point deficit at the end of the game proved to be a loss that was long foreseen that was two years in the making and demonstrated a complete lack of hindsight and planning from the club. To add insult to injury, Jackson was a D

    RAIN CHECK by Whispering Jack

The Frankston Dolphins broke a run of six straight losses against their neighbours, the Casey Demons and kept their hopes for a long-awaited return to the VFL finals alive with a 27 point victory over at Kinetic Stadium. Casey was welcomed to the Peninsula by grey skies, heavy rain and angry seas with threatening white-capped waves whipped up by gale force winds. After a slow start in the opening term when they failed to take advantage of the breeze, it appeared that the Demons had decided
