Key forwards are handy, but both this VFL side and their senior side show why its far more important to have midfielders that run both ways.

If you can win the ball and move it quickly you'll get scoring shots rather slow movement and bombing to a key forward thats got 3 players on him.

Completely pounded in the ruck. Rather have Minson than Spence and if your 184 or under you need to have a tank and be quick.

We have slow moving midgets and have had them for years.

Memo to Goodwin the game is now a super quick running game.

Is this the worst they've played all year? So much for finals experience!

Grimes not up to VFL standard let alone AFL.

Spencer getting flogged.

Mitchie not up to it.

Newton not up to it

Ben Ken has had a shocking second half of the year

Really sorry to say it but a number of players today signed their own delist papers at the dees and probably killed their chances of being picked up by another club.

Game over. 10 goal loss coming up. [censored] hell what a let down. Best team all year and that get completely outplayed and not bothering to try. Work rate this quarter has been some of the worst I've seen. They've had double the amount of possessions AND double the amount off tackles. That's pure work rate and is unacceptable at any level.

Very, very disappointing way to end the season. Feel bad for the players actually contributing.

36 points down? [censored] me I saw this coming. Not enough casey boys who can carry the Melbourne boys who can't play at Etihad

Casey have no run at all. Hand balling too often to stationary players only a meter away then stop prop hand ball to another stationary target.

Apologise for everything. Newton - gone. Ben Ken - gone. Michie - gone. Jones - gone.

Kennedy won't be gone, but Grimes, Garland and Dunn should be. Trengove's finished as well.

I think this says a little bit about the Bulldogs game plan and ours. We're going to need quite a few more gears. It's like watching Melbourne being opened up.

Dogs just want the ball. Casey don't, they just want it to stop.

Can't hit targets by foot often enough either....too many hackers

Can't remember seeing so many missed tackles.

Dogs have some bloody quick players on their books.

Agreed, but they've skew their list to one ground which is always played under one condition.

Lets see if it catches up with them next weekend.

A Jong, Honeychurch or Hrovat would all add something to the Melbourne list.

We have to many one paced midfielders, we need to nail this draft with some outside runners who aren't afraid to win their own ball.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
