Boyd is useless.

Early Mark Jamar-esque.

You went about 20 minutes too early.

Happens every time I say something about anything.

Having said that, he 2-grabbed a mark and spoiled a contest, no biggie. Cometti easily impressed.

Ha ha laughing at the west coast fans booing the umpires because for once the umps are umping properly and not getting sucked into the home crowd.

Geez the dogs are a good smothering team. Boyd had a much better 2nd quarter. Stringer needs to stop looking for the easy handball over the back and actually go into get it.

But its a tough and great game. Hope the dogs win.

If the Bont & Stringer fire up in the 2nd half, the Dogs will win.

Have you noticed how many times the Eagles players have stopped and propped (gone sideways etc) as they try to stream forward.

You have to have players forward streaming into space.

The Dogs are a faster side. A good marking side will beat them as will a precise disposal team (eg Hawthorn) but it osn't going well for the Eagles tonight,

Interesting second half coming up.

Every time WB kick a goal, I think they've missed based on the silence from the crowd.  Must be an eerie and somewhat intimidating environment to play in.

Maybe it's just jealousy, but it annoys me seeing how quickly Beveridge has transformed that team. They are very impressive and play like a team. Bontempelli has all the hallmarks of a superstar.

And I haven't rated West Coast all year, so it's delicious seeing them failing at the first hurdle. The Dogs will play Hawthorn or Geelong next week; I know I'll be rooting hard for them then.

Do they ever stop booing over there?

Maybe it's because I avoid watching Freo, but I haven't noticed it in their games as much.  Think it's a West Coast thing.

Huge fan of Liam Picken. Work rate, tackling machine and very skilfull. He has been a massive influence in this game. And he is as good a mark as his dad, if not as spectacular. No chance in the trade period?

Eagles still in it, again Doggies need to just get to the end of the qtr in this position and they are a massive chance. WC will make is close though.

Bont and String need to lift massively.

Suckling big loss for Hawks? Such a good boot and doesn't get beaten often in the air, has enough toe once the ball hits the deck too.

Doggies!!!

Their supporters can't deal with the lack of home town decisions.

They've had a dream run for years

Some of Boyd's pack work, ruck work and defensive work has been massive this quarter. But he is no power forward at this stage.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
