Holy hell, Essendon not only made the finals but are leading Geelong in the EF? Casey absolutely destroyed them.

Their team is basically the 12 top up players and some young dons as well. It's quite a strong team now. Will do some damage in finals.

Salem is out due to a cut lip earned at training. Had stitches inside his mouth but should be right to get back in the finals once healed.

Is Newton or Tim Smith playing ?

We lead the Dogs 7.6 (48) to 6.4 (40) in a close contest

Disposals - M. Jones 17 (6 for the term), Neal-Bullen 15 (6), Michie 14 (4).

Goals - Grimes, McInerney, Oliver, Scott, Terlich, Weideman, White.

Interesting where we go from here.

Tim Smith playing - havent heard about Newton. Newton is there - heard his name called in the third.

What's the score? got the Essendon-Geelong game televised, which is nuts when there is a qualifying final at the same time, surely you'd want to televise the best game to promote the VFL as much as possible.

Casey up? surely our class and depth will shine through over four quarters.

That qtr I saw a lot more of our AFL guys in the action. Clarrie, Trenners, Grimes, Nibbler, Newton, Dunn, Garland, Weed. Some really nice controlled consecutive possessions, switching with clean kicking, running onto a nicely placed markable kick. A much cleaner style.

But when the Doggies got it, they also have free player options and can get through and around us quickly.

That we are. The depth is starting to show and hopefully it will as the game goes on. The Dogs are very well coached today and they are trying to implement the same game plan that Geelong used to beat us last week. Shut down Dunn and Garland, stop our uncontested possession. They are doing really well so far the Dogs but our experience hopefully should win out.

In saying all this - if Terlich kicked 5.0 instead of 1.3 (1 OOTF), this game would be over. All getable goals. He's playing well but he'd have a contract somewhere if he was kicking straight. Trying really hard.

Why the f**k would Channel 7 show Essendon v Geelong when there is a QUALIFYING final with 1st vs 4th? Absolutely hate that channel sometimes.

Because our game doesn't feature the club name of any AFL teams.  Dur.

They (7 now and ABC in the past) only ever showed finals from Port Melbourne or the designated finals venues before that. Obvious disadvantage to highly ranked teams winning a home ground final = no tv coverage. Beats my why there are three games this arvo and only one tomorrow.

They show the elimination finals so that everyone gets a chance to see their team play in a final. Losers of the elimination finals drop out.

Terlich has been reported! He is just everywhere this game. Gives away a free kick (obviously) and its gone inside the Dogs 50 (but Michie gets it out of there).

whilst he is insipid at senuior level, he is handy at VFL (all set shot misses aside). How many will he miss?

Funnily enough Oliver has started to have an influence and he has delivered the last 2 inside 50's and hit Weideman (goal) and Scott (goal) and we have now taken control with a 19 point lead.

Sorry - radio said Oliver, twitter said ANB.

Anyway Terls to Weideman into the 50 and Weideman kicks his 3rd. The AFL listed players are doing everything this term and we are now 25 points in front. The Radio so excited about Weid's set shot.

Spoke to Macca at the game. He is confident we can settle and get back on top. Says the boys panicked because it's finals. They just need to get out there and play as normal.

They already look more composed this qtr. Much more playing on and kicking cleanly up field to more free Scorps players.

Macca didn't hand out this week's lotto numbers as well by any chance? Was spot on by the sounds of it.

    IN FRONT by Meggs

In this must-win clash between Melbourne 11th on the ladder and St Kilda 8th, it was the Demons who were in front all day to win in a hard-fought Round 8 clash to make it three in a row to keep theit slim finals chances alive. A good crowd of enthusiastic footy families for week 2 of Pride Round had gathered.  The full pews in the well-appointed RSEA Park grandstand provided excellent viewing.   The Saints won the toss and elected to kick to the southern end favoured by a strong 2-3 g

    THE TRADING CHRONICLES 02

Part 2: Watching grass grow by Whispering Jack Critics of test cricket (and I’m not one of them) will often claim the sport is excruciatingly boring: that following a five day match is much like watching grass grow. However, the longest form of that game has nothing on the first week of the AFL trade period when it comes to inducing sleep among those in the football public who follows this process in its somnolent moments. The week gone by has been no exception. Only two player trades

    THE CAVALRY ARRIVES by Meggs

The injury plague which has beset the Demons 2024 campaign is finally starting to dissipate and with consecutive wins over GWS Giants and a 2-point nail-biter in Adelade, a sense of optimism is rising.  Some commentators are now asking whether the Dees can make finals? A huge surprise with team selection this week when it was announced that champs Olivia Purcell, Paxy Paxman and Eden Zanker would play.   Hallelujah!  The cavalry has arrived. GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised
