Was there an official announcement that he wouldn't be at the club next year in any capacity? If there was I missed it. That does seem pretty obviously to be the case though.

Can't see him having anything to do with Footy in a club capacity for a long time. His continual line was the his wife has sacrificed a lot during his time as coach and that it was time for him to repay that patience.

Sounds like he'll probably get into some commentary next year, no doubt Fox Footy will chase him for a role on 360 or one of the other shows but I doubt he will do anything massively time consuming that takes him away from his family.

He's certainly earned a break!

I think he'll initially try to distance himself from the club, purely to give Simon Goodwin the clear air required to take control without having the distraction of another key figure to confuse or dilute the message.

Roos in time may come back, but I see him being more involved in development or even the growth of the women's game.

I seriously don't get this. I get that footy is time consuming but he has said this over and over. Unless it is a pot shot at her to go and get a job or something.

Because she has had to spend so much time away from America where she is from.

Wow. If that's it I am even more dumbfounded. You marry someone from another country and it's a sacrifice to go and live in the breadwinner's country?

I see a question mark in there but I don't see a question.  Surely that's not an actual question?

I think he means she has sacrificed a lot of times. Chicken or goats maybe. She's into voodoo or something. One of her spells finally worked?

She sacrificed because being an AFL coach is a massive commitment. One that she though he was done with, I would hazard a guess that they had plans for post Sydney coaching and those plans got put on hold. Being from another country away from her family can be difficult at times and Paul coaching us also probably meant they didn't have as much time to go see them.

It's also not hard to imagine that at times she's had to give him a lot of emotional support at times.

I wonder whether the club (and Roos himself) getting her involved with the players with meditation etc was an effort to give them a chance to spend time together while in his official capacity. With the added bonus that a lot of players have spoken highly of her influence.

Or it could just be that! Whatever animal she sacrificed before the Hawks game order roughly 25 for next year! :P

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
