Now for Kurt Tippett, someone that fills a need for us

I'm with PD on this one.  No chance of Rocky at the Dees, and the rumours going around were nothing more than that.

FWIW and don't shoot the messenger but the guy who started the Rockliff rumour (Zanotti) just said:

"My guy just replied saying he knows nothing of a failed medical. Will update me further later today. My source comes from inside Dees 4 walls.."

It will either happen or it wont, personally I'd rather see us secure Hibberd but the fact that deal hasn't gone through already means something is definitely up in the background IMO. What it is is anyones guess.

Three days to go in a very crazy trade period, will be very interesting to see what plays out from here.

if it's indeed not a Rockliff trade, i wonder what's holding up the Hibberd deal

Something is cooking, Mahoney will pull something from left field again like last season.

WTF?

Early August I reported Hogan had told the MFC and Freo he was staying. Pretty sure I was in front of the press.

Early September I reported small hiccup with his old mans health but the club was still 99.5% certain he would stay.

Sorry, but if you go back to that Hogan thread (as daunting as that may be when you look at the numbers of pages), you will find I made a response to you at the time that cited the newspaper article stating Hogan's desire/intention to remain at the MFC, and I stated in that response that the article predated your revelation by two or three days, which it did.

No, he's yet to deliver for Sydney.

Rocky is an elite mid-sized forward who would sit nicely in the arc alongside Hogan, Watts, Trac & Jeffy.

make that 4 of us.

For those of you who continue to attack other posters over their credibility or lack thereof in trade rumours threads, please sod off and leave the rest of us in peace. There are plenty of us who enjoy the rumours comfortable in the knowledge that most of them will not eventuate. Discouraging people from posting what they hear is both unnecessary and frankly, annoying as these trade threads would be utterly boring if people didn't post what they hear.

So to Generation Dee, GNF, Abe, Chook in Perth et al, please continue to provide your info. Sometimes the journey can be just as fun as the destination.

What goes on in the way of "attacks" in these rumour threads is utterly insignificant when you compare it to the attacks that border on bullying, that occur in numerous other topics... for example, and regardless of what you might think of their manner of posting or their remarks, it only takes Saty or Stuie to put fingers to keyboard and press the Enter key, to have the usual suspects jumping on them... sometimes with just cause and often with no good reason - and that's when things get completely derailed (and yes, I do see the irony in that last comment ;-) ).

Rumours will always have detractors and doubters, and apart from the PMs that Generation Dee was getting (which are totally out of order if they are attacks), the responses have been quite gentle and for the most part NOT personal; the doubters should not be silenced (abusers on the other hand...), as that is as much a part of the banter that makes these threads interesting as are the rumours themselves.

I keep reading this, but he has had a couple of purple patches for Sydney. Played some really good footy in the ruck and drifting forward.

That said, he doesn't cope well with (playing with) injury, and he's not worth the money he's on.

Agreed he has his moments.

I think money could be better spent elsewhere.

FWIW, i've seen nothing on Twitter, the AFL website or the MFC website so far confirming that we infact have no interest in Rocky, nor have i seen anything from the Lions or Rocky himself.

Do you not believe that Huddo said what he said based on information directly (or indirectly from a "credible" source) from the Melbourne camp?

So we now know that we have or haven't spoken to Rockliff and that we never intended to get him or that we did and that we will get him or we won't. Perfectly clear.

I just find it very interesting that the parties haven't shut this down themselves,

Mahoney hasn't got a laptop or mobile phone on his beach holiday.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

Concerningly, average attendances in 2024 were 2,660 fans per match, with the women’s game incurring an annual loss of approximately $50 million.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
