Getting in Lewis hasn't helped the next year scenario. We suddenly look like a decent side, and if we get into the finals, that second-round pick is going to be even further back than where it is now.

The draft has been like the finals for the dees. I have looked forward to it every year for almost a decade. We normally have a top pick. This year we didn't and all of a sudden we land Jordan Lewis.

Dear Essendon,

You still don't know what you injected Michael Hibberd with, stop being a bunch of pricks.

Yours sincerely,

Except that everyone knows that EFC know what they were injected with, which is why they are still hiding the records

EFC aka drugcheats should get zilch for Hibberd and we should get compo for Marksham. We still are a sad club when nobody wants Dawes,Garland,Spencer and hopefully satin inc. takes Dunn.

Sorry, ENYAW.....can't see the logic train that equates nobody wanting a couple of our underperforming oldies, one of whom is injury ridden and can't get on the track, a ruckman who as far as I am aware the club wants to hold as back up for Max, and whatever you mean by satin inc. takes Dunn to us being a sad club.  Seems far more like a case of a sad ENYAW who can't be happy about a serious change of direction, upwards, of our club's standing in the eyes of the players in the competition as a whole.

I don't understand why Hibberd doesn't just take Essendon to court and have his contract terminated for the Bombers negligence and lack of Duty of Care to him as an employee.?  And seek the court to order his costs payable by Bombers while he's at it.

No brainer.

17.  I guess you don't understand the vagaries of our "legal system".  If Hibberd did take EFC to court etc etc as you mentioned, given EFC's penchant for obfuscation, it would possibly be heard in time for the 2019 trade season.

I agree that he should but sadly it is impracticable.

And Essendon may regard that as a compliment, that they are tough.

According to Barret today Dodoro has reacted poorly to his assertion that Essendon is hard to deal with. Evidently Dodoro not thrilled with the reputation he's built for himself.

He could rid himself of that reputation by accepting our 2017 2nd Round Pick.

Our desire to use 2017 2nd means we have someone in mind around 29 this year and/or we don't want to waste an entire year of prospect analysis by JT and the recruiting team by having first pick at 57.  If we have to do 29 for Hibberd it should be possible to trade next years 2nd to one of the clubs who end up with multiple 2nds this year.

Also it helps us spread the age group of our kids, so they will likely develop at differing stages.  We don't want too many all under 22Yrs.

See what happens with the Hawks when all their guns are over 30 during the same seasons.  There comes a time when we need to spread our ages a bit.

Essendon supporters seem pretty happy with Dodoro. That is all he should care about.

I seriously hope we don't cave in, play hard ball, if they don't except next years 2nd round pick, then bad luck, let them keep Hibberd for another year. We have to use 3 picks in this draft and we have the bonus of picking up Lewis, keep pick 29.

You can see the narrative the press are going to run with though, can't you? Sprouting things like 'Will Lewis lift Melbourne into the top 8'. They seem to be saying yes, but certain pockets of the media (if not all of it) clearly didn't think we'd make it next year without him.

Prior to Lewis coming on board, I would have been very surprised that if we'd been relatively injury-free that we wouldn't win 12-14 games. That would get us probably into 8th position.

But with Lewis, there's no doubting his experience in tight contests will help us and perhaps be the difference at least once, if not more next season.

If things go really well, it's not impossible to see us finishing on the cusp of the top 4. It all depends on how quickly our guys grow and develop. The Oliver's and the Petracca's in particular.

To be fair, that's like me saying my mate Dave from down the pub expects the deal will get done.

There was a bit of talk around that Essendon wanted this years picks so they could package a few up and have a crack at O'meara

perhaps now that's not a factor they'll be more receptive to our 2017 pick, we need a deal breaker, because they will just wait this out and force our hand as it sits, we'd have to be willing to lose Hibberd to take that chance

I think we want Hibberd more than we want any one of those 2nd round picks, it will be this years 2nd. Essendon have the cards

The Age said negotiations for Essendon defender Michael Hibberd's move to Melbourne were not progressing, with the Demons insisting that the Bombers accept a second-round pick for next season rather than this year's second-round pick.

I don't think we're going to be the ones to blink first.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the clock runs out on the Hibberd deal, can't we get him for nothing as he's able to leave the bombers as a free agent? If so, that changes who holds the cards, and the bombers should be the ones to blink.

(I also don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that sitting out a year of footy has lessened his value.)

I reckon we may play Russian roulette and have him go into the PSD.

Put a price on his head and have him declare he refuses to move interstate.  Essendon wont re-draft him, and after that he will need to get past Brisbane, Fremantle, Gold Coast, Carlton, Richmond & Collingwood

Aye, but I thought I read somewhere (if it was on here, could easily have been inaccurate!) that any banned player could choose to leave the bombers as a free agent if they didn't want to go back.

Seems a bit rough to force players to go back to the club that screwed them over so badly.

Lloyd just said in trade radio the deal will get done today for this years 2nd rd pick...

Could just be Lloyd being an Essendon man saying what he wants to happen.

If they feel like going through the rigmarole of court proceedings.  Far too late in the day for that now.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
