Skills weren't there in the first minute mate.

Did you watch the first quarter mate? Think it's a coincidence we started off well and gradually went downhill?

Kent and Trac embarrassing shots at goal.

The Saints pressured us in the last half of the qtr but the first half it was our lack of composure that cost us as we still had all the run.

Omac is still some time away from being a player. Jeffy G was one of our best to the half way mark, has stunk it up since, Grimes needs to run out the game like last week with a massive finish.

Just watched the second half of that quarter. We were looking ok at the start and sure as nuts we just switched off. The 'aints layed down the challenge, our disposal went to [censored], stopped running and stopped playing team footy. There are no excuses Melbourne, poor umpiring, playing in Darwin or any other [censored] doesn't cut it....[censored] switch on!!!

nothing for Roos to figure out. the players have to just f**kin pull their heads out of each other's a55es & play with a bit of urgency. 2 tackles inside forward 50 is unacceptable ... world beaters one quarter, hacks the next. it's just so frustrating.

You don't get it. We have everyone going for the ball at the stoppage, so if they get it to the outside, they outnumber us 2 to 1. We need to just keep letting them get it to the outside, like we have every other time we play them, and they'll kill us.

It's stupid to have 3 going for the tackle, because if the ball comes free, again, they outnumber us.

And Hickey doesn't beat Gawn, but he sure can nullify him.

Our midfield is so much easier to beat than theirs.

Here's the thing, the Saints best is six or more goals better than ours, but inconsistency has killed their season. They also know that if they go hard at us, we'll melt like butter, and either overuse the ball more, or just bang away, both behaviours that they set up for and then burn us with quick hands and speed. As much as I hate it, they're just that much better than us, with the added ability of being able to make us look like schoolchildren. Steven, Armitage, Riewoldt, Montagna are also all better than any of our best players.

Rubbish.

Their best is no better than ours, let alone 6 goals.

That, in many respects, is the problem. We are yet again getting slaughtered by a side who is worse than us.

We fundamentally do not know what to do from a mark or free kick.

  1. We don't get behind the man on the mark quick enough
  2. We have a lot of players who are one-sided that tend to run to their non-favoured side
  3. We don't face towards the goal so end up kicking on an angle

Well summed up. Always look to play a bit flashy....but we aren't. Were just dumb a lot of the time.

Going in circles

Pathetic.

Over handballing dumb footballers who could not score in a brothel with some one guiding them in.

seriously super dumb, even in the first quarter we over handball end but their pressure wasn't good enough.

when these coaches watch the tapes do they not see that we over use the ball and tell the players?

are our coaches dumb? Or is it the players? Or are both dumb?

Sick of watching us over handball until we turn it over or hack a kick forward because we have ran ourselves into trouble.

Its so predictable that you can pretty much write the script before the game has even started.

Omce again we need a leader to stand up, rarely happens, let's see if it happens today.

I don't need to say anymore...

My swearing increased by 500% that quarter

I did. Our skills were shite but their pressure was worse. We had 80+ handballs and massacred most of them.

What would your solution be? We made two changes, how many more should we have made? And who specifically looks out of puff?

It's far more than just fitness.

yeahh..........no.

Armitage? That's as ridiculous as suggesting their best is six goals better than our best.

Tell me Stu. Which Casey players would you bring in that would have made a difference in that quarter? Go on, name, say the top three that are tired and who you'd have instead.

I'd say that off the top of my head, I can think of three clangers for Harmes and Jetta each, in the first 15-20 minutes. That's not when you're tired and, if it is, then we've got bigger problems than shuffling a couple of blokes in from Casey.

I've said this a lot, but I'll say it again. It's not about the individual players, it's about the effect they have on the lineup and the overall ability to rest players through the game to suit the specific conditions. The 1 game we've won at Etihad we went with a fresh, quick, small team, and we've consistently gone against that ever since and then stood around scratching our heads wondering why we get run off our feet.

ANB and Bugg were absolute essentials this week IMO. Bernie is clealry nowhere near right to play, Harmes is struggling, Kennedy is making silly tired mistakes etc etc... Honestly, it's completely obvious we were more tired than we should have been as that second quarter went on. Do you really think the Saints are a 5 goal a quarter better team than us?

Started going pear shaped when Hogan went off

Only a 2 kick lead. If we come out like we started we are still a chance. Garlett needs to reset. Captain needs to lead and we can get back in front. Need to beat saints especially at ethiad. Go Dees.

Will be a miracle if we win this game from here, how we were favorites still has me stumped

They don't take group psychology/hoodoos into account when making odds, otherwise we'd be $10 roughies.

Need to reboot game. More basics less flash. More accountability less playing in circles.

Are you seriously suggesting that ANB and Bugg for Vince and another (say Kennedy) would have stopped that absolute garbage from the entire rest of the team?

Get a grip.

The "Darwin" excuse is rubbish btw. Freo had a pretty solid crack against Geelong after less recovery time.

They're a different team to us playing on a different ground. You can't compare.

Just need more composure going I50 and a lot of our better players to lift in the second half.

They need to come out with intent and double the amount of tackles.

This is still winnable

The interchange play

YES!!! Finally someone's noticed it!

They delay bringing the interchange on until they can influence the play, so they don't have an opponent. We still haven't caught on.

They know how to beat us. We don't have a clue how to beat them. Most other sides know how to beat them. We lose our 'shape' and play to their strengths.

We are a dumb club.

Forwards not working hard enough running back to defend our 50m line. Garlett larising and leaving his man to go for glory caused last goal.

Darwin excuse after 8 day break is hokum!

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
