Frawley keepign Buddy Goalless. Hmm, if only our defence didn't have a glaring weakness. #Equalisation

Hawthorn will win the premiership again this year and I can't stand it.

I have done the only thing I can to stay sane through this Dork dominance I opened a Sportsbet account yesterday and put a heap on the Dorks to win the Cup at $4.50. First time I have bet on anything for 20 years.

What a yawnfest if Whorethorn make another GF. I mean [censored] it's worse than slamming your head into brick wall repeatedly & it will be the 3rd GF in a row i didn't watch.

Imagine doing that in between 1969 - 2011.

If Gill is a decent CEO he should be getting concerned...

Just give up any hope and expectations. Last year was a valuable lesson in not caring about whether Hawthorn have to play away interstate finals games because of regular season losses. I naively got so excited about Hawthorn going into last years finals and thinking they wouldnt win it playing a 4 week finals series with two perth games.

If they finish 1st, so what? They've been closer to defeat at the MCG in two prelims vs Geelong and Port

I have a feeling that many clubs in the finals will set themselves up for a big MCG game this year against the Hawks and may come out on top. I reckon if Hawthorn have to travel they'll beat anyone as those "against the odds" games are bread and butter

Bring on more MCG games anyway.

Where is this "dropping the ball" rule?

It's code for illegal disposal or sometimes holding the ball...

"BALL...........YYYYYYESSSSS"

A month ago I thought Hawthorn were off the pace and snuck home in a few lucky ones. Right now, they look a head better than anyone else. Combine that with their finals experience and we are all doomed this year unfortunately.

Umpiring was  ATROCIOUS  as usual the Hawthorn seniors get away with murder

Buddy was scragged at every contest,  just not right,Sydney should lodge a complaint

Gee the umps are kind to Hodgy arent they?

It wasnt Frawley that did the damage it was the other 4 players who were blocking and scagging him at the same time

Buddy should have received a lot of free kicks that were there.Just sickening to watch and the BT and  Bruce love fest commentary just as sickening.

Hypocrisy rules again.....whinge whinge about Hawthorn, they play on the edge and as a team, I want to see Melbourne play that way going forward, it is successful

Must admit i thought the Hawks were just the better side, you always get some dodgey free's in game but i thought overall the hawks played very well.

So happy for Chip that he's back to his best form, can't see him being far away from AA this year.

You're very generous

It all depends on if the player has had prior opportunity and if not, if they were attempting to dispose of the rule.

in lewis's case the ball wasn't held to him, his arm was pinned and he didn't dispose of the ball correctly or attempt to, eventually letting it drop from his hands

free every time

Did he have prior opportunity?

I imagine there would be plenty of people at AFL house deeply concerned about the prospect of Hawthorn winning a fourth flag, makes the idea they're working on equalization seem like a joke

I too am overcome with joy for him.

with prior opportunity you still have to make a legitimate attempt at disposal (was discussed in media recently)

sure, lewis was unlucky to get caught in a very good tackle but that's footy

definite free kick for incorrect disposal

Can't wait for the day when we're resented as much as Hawthorn

We're closing in on the 20th anniversary of this very comment being made.

Fair enough.

Yes - a legitimate *attempt*, which is subjective. If he gets tackled without prior and throws it or spills it before he can form a handball or kick, that is *not* a free kick usually. Clint was on the right track (and shouldn't have backed down - soft! ?)

Note: didn't see the disposal in question, just talking generally. No prior = no obligation for a legal disposal. That is why free kicks with no prior are hardly ever paid unless the player blatantly holds on it it.

My whinge about Hawthorn was very specifically that they get an absolute arm chair ride from the league and from the umpires.

My previous complaints, in other threads, have been about how absolutely dirty their celebrated leaders are, such as Hodge and Mitchell. I hope we play hard, winning football, but I don't want it to be at the cost of being known as dirty, sniping pricks.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
