Deserves to get to 100 and be chaired off imho.

Surely we can find a spot for 2 games.

You're right WYL, this isn't charity organisation. It's a football club, and football clubs have a lot of emotion in them.

Please tell me you're taking the pizz?

I have never said that and JG can't be blamed for previous ineptitude.

While not trying to pump up my own tyres, I did play footy at a reasonably high level.  We had a bloke at our club who found it very difficult to crack a senior game.  He was a very consistent reserve grade player and was universally loved and respected around the club.  Back in the days when you had 19th and 20th men sitting on the bench, the coach saw fit to pick him in the 1st 18 in a game where we were playing the top side.  In the previous 4 games, that side had won by an aggregate of 350 points.  The boys were rapt that our team mate was elevated for his first senior game of the year.  We knocked off the top side that week.

At least half of our team had only known the bloke I speak of for 2 years tops; many knew him for less time.  But everyone at the club knew what he stood for and that he was part of the heart and soul of the club.  Again, some things in footy clubs transcend the game itself at times - not always, but at times.

How did our blokes go when we played Hawthorn in Trengove's first game back?

If there was ever a game that you get up for because of an inclusion, it was that one.

Pretty well I thought actually.

My point is that if there was ever a game that would see the "fairytale win", it would've been Trengove's return.  By implying that Grimes' 100th could be of similar motivation for the team to lift is clutching at straws at best.

Reality bus for me tells me his papers have been stamped.

Optimist in me would love if Roos had worked his magic and really made him earn a recall and has fixed some huge deficiencies in his game.  He then comes back into the 22 post bye plays blinder after blinder and cements his spot in best 22.  Gets a new 2 year contract on less money and becomes a champion of the club.

One can dream right?

Once again, as so often happens on here, a poster provides an opinion with a rider attached and a respondent takes that opinion as an absolute position.  It is not an individual win that is necessarily going to be a benefit, but how such an act galvanises a footy club, for the long term, which is important.

If there isn't a spate of injuries and Grimes doesn't make it to 100 games we'll know that the club has taken the attitude of some on this thread.

If he does make it to 100 without a spate of injuries we'll know that the club values Grimes' contribution and the fabric of rewarding relationships, because if he hasn't been chosen by now there's no real reason to pick him.  He's been as good or better than Newton, Neal-Bullen or Michie (playing back, but so could Grimes), who have been given games without getting the nod himself.

It will be interesting to see how the club rolls...

Totally agree.  If he doesn't get 100 games I'll lose some respect for the Club as it will show they, like some here, don't value people.

A club can't survive and thrive if it doesn't. Those using the argument that "it's a business" clearly haven't run or understand business.

i found his 98 games to be fairly average, particularly after he changed numbers.

Not at all.

Captained our club through some dark years and gave his all. Deserves some acknowledgement.

Did we chair Trengove off after the Hawthorn game?  A much more significant milestone from a bloke that was also captain through those dark years.

I would actually be embarrassed if Grimes got chaired off.  It would also be a sign that some areas of the club still haven't moved on from those times.

I doubt he would be chaired off - although I wouldn't mind if he was- but while you may be embarrassed if it did happen, I think many would be rapt.

I can't understand how anyone can be against giving Grimes 2 more games.

What, will it stop our very realistic tilt at a premiership this year? Will it take precious games away from kids who just need 2 more games to become elite players?

Our playing group is made up of humans, and even if not every player on the list is best friends with Grimes, they must all be acutely aware that they too might find themselves in his position one day. The way we deal with this situation will show our young playing list that we are a club that either cares and looks after its players, or a club that treats its players like property. It might be the difference between a player wanting to stay at the club or go elsewhere.

A few weeks ago Jack Watts spoke about how important it was for his career to have a coach like Roos who understands that players are human. We completely underestimate how important it is for these guys to feel like they are in a supportive environment that values them.

Just like every one of us wants to work somewhere that we hope will do the right thing by us, so do footballers.

I hope we give Grimes 2 more games, and I believe we will.

You chair blokes off for 200+ game milestones.  On the odd occasion, you might chair someone off for the 100 game milestone, but only if they have come back from adversity.  Trengove, Menzel, Morabito, these types of situations, not an average player that can't cement his spot in the side.

DC, you should know form is all about the numbers.  Hang on and I'll get my tarot cards out and I'll then get back to you with what will happen with Jack next.

You've totally lost it  b2803.

It has nothing to do with numbers & games.  None.

It is all about the players love & respect, for the one they are honoring. this is all it is. a show of pride in the person thay are hoisting up on their shoulders.

A public showing of their respect for their comrade.  Pride.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
