Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

number of teams (8) and number per state have basically been decided, pates. however gill has stated recently that it is now not set in cement and in fact may be enlarged to 10 because of the demand by up to 13 clubs. so the chances of reducing it don't look good from an afl perspective

and iirc melbourne and bulldogs will be foundation clubs but again not finalised, leaving 2 more for vic unless they increase the numbers

That to me would be a mistake governed by the league's eyes lighting up with all the teams putting in their bids for licences. The priority early days should be making sure it is a marketable game in the first place. My understanding was the game in the pre-season this year was well below the standard of what was put up last year. I think most people want to get behind it but there's only so long people will support for the sake of supporting, people have to enjoy what they're watching as well.

I agree it would be a mistake but I don't think they'd be doing it with their "eyes lighting up" - the reason would be with so many clubs now bidding for licences Gil and the AFL wouldn't want to get any of them off-side. It's the hallmark of his administration trying to please everybody, we've seen it several times already. The guy is a lightweight and the sooner he is replaced by someone competent who is not afraid to stand up to the big clubs the better.

This probably sums up "Dill the Likeable"...

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/teams/essendon/afl-boss-gillon-mclachlan-says-jobe-watsons-2012-brownlow-presents-afl-commission-with-its-most-difficult-decision-ever/news-story/f31c498b2bc4d7546ac6228df0f7a30c?sv=e1771aaeddb02b0c65d98e5c9071d5d9&utm_source=Herald%20Sun&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=GroupCeditorial&mid=1981407

Surely he has more pressing and important issues...this one is a no brainer. It's really not even his or the commissions decision to be made, it's already been made and they have no choice to follow through with the right call...but good old "Dill" is sleepless in Melbourne because he doesn't want to hurt anyones feelings.

I'd kind of laugh if Melbourne and the Dogs missed out on a license. Would be an absolute injustice.

It's entirely possible. With only 4 melbourne teams, it would mean only 2 of collingwood, Richmond, North, carlton and essendon would get licences. Not too mention geelong.

I think maybe one of these teams hasn't bid, bit I am a bit worried

My understanding was Essendon hadnt made a bid but I share this concern

It was always going to happen and the AFL will probably let it happen. Just look at the Friday night fixture, North developed it into what it is but the big clubs didn't like it so it is now 'shared' (between the big clubs), then look at ANZAC day, Essendon and to a lesser extent the Pies developed it into what it is yet it can't possibly be shared because they made it good, even though they are benefiting from North developing Friday nights.

None of these teams showed any interest in womens footy at the inception but now it has some legs through the great work of the dees (and reading into some of Daisies comments the dogs haven't been as on board as the dees), the big clubs will now what all the accolades.

One of the funny things with the Pies is Eddie goes on about how the Pies have a womens change room and facilities when I am fairly sure building these was part of the conditions from the government for the redevelopment of the site for use by the public. I have not seen the Pies out doing anything to make the womens game stronger but Eddie will want and will take the glory with glee, and if he doesn't get his way he will trumpet about how unfair it is and how good the pies are and how they were instrumental in the development of the womens game.

After that whinge I must say that the thing I am most proud of our club for over the last 10 years, and possibly over my lifetime (not long enough to get back to 64), is their work in developing the womens game and embracing it across the board. Being one of the first two with a team, the first with a draft pick (due to a toss of the coin), the first winners, the first to have a womens best and fairest with an epic speech to match, the first to employ a womens player from their side (even though not in a playing role), and hopefully the frst official team and the first to play in the whole new league. Matches the firsts in the mens game we are all so proud of.

I thought it was too. The standard up until this game has been really good.

Worth noting that the make up of the teams for this game was Vic based only.

Whereas the previous years have had the best from across the country.

Hopefully the teams in the new comp will be more like the latter.

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.
