Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Essendrug Game Protest

Could do with missing their minute-long applause for convicted drug cheats and their general arrogance.

In terms of a real protest, hopefully the players protest by dismantling them entirely. Memories of 2013 are strong - one of the worst nights I've had at the footy. Not helped by Essendon faithful.

Re: crowds - 240,000 extra sounds impressive. You've also got to factor in that we played a game in Alice, a game in Darwin, a home game in round 23 against GWS and a game in Canberra. Almost a quarter of our games played in much smaller stadiums away from our traditional bases. Not to mention we weren't 1-0 going into a match against a depleted arch-rival - pretty disingenuous to suggest we'd be outnumbered 4-1 based on last years averages (which don't support the claim) and total supporter numbers (which are irrelevant. If they were relevant, Collingwood would outnumber us every year 10:1).

Also forgot to mention that they get 50,000 more than the average from one game alone.

it's an average of 41 vs 30, as I already said, that is not 400% higher is it? It is nowhere near that. Are you actually helping me prove you wrong or what

i tell you what the poll will prove, that you stand alone against dozens of others, and I look forward to it

There will be far more than 10k MFC Supporters at the game.

When was the last real chance we had to bury a team by 60-100 points and fcuk off their arrogant supporters?

but no doubt this purile arguement will be kept alive by You Know Who...

Totals Curry, totals. I said that from the start. I can't even tell if you're playing dumb to suit your argument anymore....

I'm out.

walks-out-o.gif

sometimes it's like you are joking. It doesn't matter if it is totals or averages, the proportional ratio is identical. Its 137%, not 400%. That's about year 4 maths.

yeah you're out alright

How about 'Equinedon'?

Gutted I'm out of town for game. Nathan will be reminding lads of last year, that's the only payback they'll be thinking about.

The scandal & stench didn't just happen, nor will it ever be penalised properly for media deal reasons.

Ok, I'll bite for the last time...

I never said they had 4 times as many supporters (even though they actually do going by the stats), I said I expected 30k vs 10k at this particular game. To which I later said 10k might be a bit conservative.

I got sucked in to your usual game of making an unrelated argument about something just for attention, but I won't be doing that again.

I'll leave you with this against the point you tried to argue:

SUPPORTER NUMBERS

Essendon - 692k

Melbourne - 191k

That's 3.6 times the amount.

Have a nice day Curry.

Nice try but you said 40k

Oh FFS, let's be realistic here... There will be about 40,000 Essendon fans and 10,000 Melbourne fans. This kind of tough talk of "let's do this, let's do that" is just kinda silly.

How about we just focus on the game and leave all the distractions to the opposition.

and you are completely wrong and nobody agrees with you. 'might be a bit conservative' is your attempt to weasel out of your position without outright admitting you're blatantly wrong. We'll pick this up saturday on the poll then and see how your 4:1 prediction has panned out then.

I was away and missed last year's game v the Bombers,

Can someone please console me that we won't again lose to the Bombers with most of their best players out?

Thanks in advance.

My only real concern is that woosha gives the directive to go the biff and/or injure our players. He was a tough player but also a sniper of the highest order himself.

I seem to recall that he was a chemist too;he should fit in well there.

Nothing I hate more than this, makes me sick when our cheer squad starts singing the song before the end of the game.

You poor repressed thing you. I suggest vodka in a thermos and try it out.

Sing'n as soon as the fat lady starts is guaranteed to rub salt... and you'll experience a liberating thrill of risking public humiliation to show faith in your team.

so who's volunteering to count the supporter numbers next week

we need precise statistics to settle this discussion argument

nasher can't be there, but with his it virtuosity maybe he could do a colour analysis of the crowd, although distinguishing navy from black will be a challenge

dee-luded can have the northern stand

Go to games, support my team and have faith, it's not that I am worried that we will lose as in most cases the result is already completed. But rather I think it's a stupid way to ruin singing the song at the end of the game and the Melbourne chants and applause are more than adequate until the final siren goes and we are able to sing the song.

I'd like to think we're above stunts, protests and symbolic gestures. We finally have a team that can do the talking out in the field; and that's the only talk that interests me next weekend.

Were better than them on and off the field, if they wanna worship some sporting criminals and draw further attention to the most shameful chapter in their club's history. We're above them and, despite the professional era we're living in, we should uphold sportsmanship.

Let them march and clap unhindered, I wanna see them smashed on the field.

Anyone up for suggesting potential banners?

A banner of Sam Mitchell's syringe imitation would do nicely, he he!  But security would promptly confiscate it so protest banners won't really work.

Re some sort of protest.  At first I thought lets just play the game and thrash them.  But then I read here about the minute silence.  That is a bridge too far for me.

If they have the minute silence, Demon supporters can booooooooo our heads off.  A minute's silence is a long standing tribute of respect to the fallen and to the deceased.  It has no place whatsoever in that game for that club.  I am appalled that they would do that let alone it be silently condoned by the rest of the AFL world.

Neither the AFL or journo's are taking a stand.  So let us be the ones.  Let's boo the minute silence!!  Boo loudly.  Nothing security can do to stop 30,000 fans (or for Stuie's benefit 10,000 fans) booing.  I will boo not because they cheated but because they have the temerity to drag a universal sign of respect into their sordid saga.

We can make some serious noise booing for a minute!!!

Edit:  I just read TPF39's post about their clapping...well we can boo that too!

New Edit:  False alarm.  I misread 1 minute applause for 1 minute silence so the disrespect is not quite as great as I intimated in the rant above.  'Biggestread' suggested booing while they clap - lets do it!

Each to their own then Mad. Have you ever tried it?

I think it's fun and hilarious, and still treasure and enjoy the official singing when the siren sounds.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
