[Re Hunt]

Where did you hear that?

I always understood that he was a bit of a smokey

Did he play Dragons? Thought he was plucked from BGS.

Happy to be corrected.

"Jayden Hunt came through school footy [at Brighton Grammar] with Josh Kelly and Salem and was right up with them as a player when he was much younger early but they grew and he didn't and he dropped off until he grew again. He did some eye-catching things in school games this year." ~ Jason Taylor (recruitment manager)

From here. Hunt didn't play TAC Cup

That's where i heard it.

Read in the paper today that Petracca wont play NAB. Hopefully he can get in a Casey practice match or something

Further to this, my expected team for this Saturday v Port - subject to injuries this week and assumes Vince or Terlich are not rushed back and Spencer is rested.

Note: we can play 26.

B: Jetta Dunn Garland

HB: Hunt T-Mac Salem

C: Brayshaw N.Jones Bugg

HF: Kent Frost VB

F: Garlett Hogan Harmes

Ru: Gawn Tyson Viney

Int: Watts, M.Jones, O-Mac, Pedo, Grimes, Stretch, Kennedy, Wagner

Emerg (from): Neal-Bullen, Michie, Oliver (love him to play, but expect they won't rush him, but will take him for the trip)

Unavailable: Harry O, Dawes, Trenners, Spencer, Vince, Terlich, White, Max King, JKH, Newton, Petracca, (Melky)

Not ready: Mitch King, Hulett, Weed

Pencilling in Hunt for Round 1 is ridiculous but continues the great Demonland tradition of supporters creaming their pants over someone who hasn't actually done anything yet.

Hunt has some ability but is yet to establish himself at Casey much less getting picked in the ones.

I can't believe it's the eve of the pre-season challenge period and we are already missing 11 players with various ailments plus one ruled out for the year due to peptide use.

It's a pretty shocking start to the year, injury-wise.

What's wrong with the bolded players?

think its fair to assume the following wont be available for the seniors round one:

JT, Dawes, Newton, Petracca, Lumumba.  with petracca and Lumumba back soon after round one once they play some casey for match fitness

Vince should be right.  So overall not too bad.  JT was never going to be right and we wont miss Dawes or Newton much

how many games have Salem, Kent, Hogan, Tyson and Viney played together?  answer - not many.

Man im excited to watch these guys play together and get on the same wavelength.  aside from Hoges all had injuries last year

I actually thought Newton loooked pretty good in the small forward role

I thought he showed glimpses last season and definitely seems worth persisting with. If he wants to become a regular in the team, though, he'll need to improve his defensive running.

Barrett?  Slobbo?

Or someone possibly credible??

Brayshaw didn't play any NAB games last season but he knocked the selection door down with his performances in the Casey games.

I wouldn't rule Petracca out yet although coming off a knee we are likely to be a bit more cautious.

I was looking at some odds today and generally speaking we are expected to go about the same as last year. I even saw ladbrokes, where you can bet on any game for the season right now, and we were favourites for a whopping TWO games. We are heavy underdogs for round 1 despite beating the same mob at the same ground the last time we took the field. Now, it certainly doesn't seem to me like we could stagnate/go backwards this year but it i definitely a concern that it seems to be the prevailing attitude outside the club. I am very sick of waiting.

I think we played (and won) at Shittihad Stadium in the final H&A round of 2015, even though it was a home game for us.  Even more reason to give us a chance in R.1 2016 I reckon.

I love the idea of Hogan, Frost and Watts as forwards

Hogan - the contested physical beast who will dominate close to goal or working up the ground

Frost - probably the best athlete at the club, competitive beast who can play relief ruck and take ruck duties inside 50

Watts - the skills to finish around goal and hit leading forwards on the chest, the tank to push up field and play the link man

it is a nice blend of talls.

Gee Id love to see competitive beast next to Watts name.

Sounds like Grimes to me.

Not sure what evidence you have that Frost is the best athlete but even if he is that has SFA to do with his skills up forward. I have also seen no evidence that he is able to ruck.

The kid has played a handful of games & shown reasonable ability as a defender for GWS.  I'd have thought the obvious thing to do is let him settle in defence for a while & let him build up his confidence.  Playing straight ahead in defence is much easier than having to play forward.

Throwing him to the wolves up forward sounds like a dumb plan.

He started up forward last season and looked fine.

And its common knowledge hes the best athlete at the club, and by a fair way.

so Tommy Mac wining every time trial for about 3 years is just ignored by the footy club is it

'by a fair way' is just a silly thing to say

You realise you are commenting about a side on paper for the pre-season and is based on what has been happening in the pre-season practice games so far? How that makes it creaming their pants over someone and pencilling them in for Round 1 shows that you don't read threads properly or are just being cranky, frankly.

As to whether Hunt gets to Rd 1, I have already stated that there seems a push under Goodwin to add more speed out of defence and I suspect Hunt, Terlich and Wagner will belooked at in this role and Hunt will be first cab off the rank pre-season. All three have some kicking limitations and in Hunt's case, I'm yet to see the physical side, apart from his obvious pace.

But I'm pleased they are auditioning for this role and also pleased they have decided to inject pace down back. By Rd 1 though, it may be back to the usual suspect - Lumumba.

Many supporters on these sites are a tad optimistic to say the least.  We recruit player x & then some supporters start drooling, pencil them in for a Brownlow & a couple of B&F's before the poor bloke has actually played a game.

I would be happy if Hunt show us he can be a solid player at Casey before thinking of playing him in the 1sts.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
