I rate Quigley, Chris, Snoop Dog, and others ahead of the prolific Knightmare. But I hasten to add that it doesn't mean I wish Knightmare any harm in this life or the next. It just means I have an opinion of his opinion.

And not losing "a nanoseconds sleep" over Emma's ratings doesn't mean I don't read her, respect her, or consider her opinions invalid, it means I have more faith in our full-time recruiting staff to get things right.

If Knightmare was any good he would be paid for his opinions, who knows he could be a talents scout Iv been reading his predictions for a while and he's had as many hits as Devo.

Any idea how accurate he has been in the past couple of drafts. His choices are interesting. Not sure I agree with them but frankly who knows in this draft. You'd have to have watched them personally to have an idea. I trust in our recruiters. Seems nearly all of them have question marks. Gotta trust in Taylor & Co to work out who to gamble on. Seems to me Parish, other than being small, is the least gamble in the 3-10 range of the non Academy boys.

Certainly makes for an interesting night. We have two picks inside the top 10, and looks like we could have any 2 of about 10 players. Unlike other years where it was clear who we were taking, or at least down to a selected 2 or 3.

Honestly, there will be a handful of players in this very draft we are looking at on Tuesday that will taken in the teens that are better than those taken in the top 10.

Because that is the problem with drafting teenagers - the judgements you think are strange can be anything but and the 'locks' we pick can be anything but.

His review on Curnow (pick 3) and Parish (pick 5). By the look and read of them, why the [censored] would we pick Curnow at pick 3 and not Parish?

Although watching Curnow's highlights, makes me lick my lips of having him there with Hogan:

# 4 Melbourne - Charlie Curnow (Geelong Falcons / 191cm / 95kg)

Real shame that we didnt get to see Charlie at his best all year but what we saw late was very good. Stringer type who I think he could well have been a legitimate 2-3 selection if we had have seen more. Tall powerful type who has the endurance to play a few different roles including the middle but for mine suited to that medium forward type role where he can use his physical and endurance attributes to really work over his opponent offensively. Like Stringer could be played higher or dropped as a main target one out. Has terrific hands and a good ball user albeit his testing didnt really show that off.

Why: It will be bloody hard to look past Parish but I just think Curnow might be the better long term player and a better fit with Melbournes current mids. Comes from a family of endurance athletes and he is one to. He is big and could ultimately play mid / HF. I would look past Weideman and land McKay later.

# 6 Essendon - Darcy Parish (Geelong Falcons / 181cm / 74kg)

Terrific player who have seen plenty of. Probably not as big as you want your midfielders these days but he ticks nearly every box. Very clever player around the stoppages who can win it and create space through the congestion to get away and clear the ball. Actually has real bounce about him and would think he would be a hard player to track and stay on top of as he is always on the move. As a bottom ager I thought he was a bit outside but he was a terrific ball winner this year and has really rounded him out. His ball skills are very good (averages circa 70% DE) and he is particularly good at using lateral kicks to create the play and set team mates up. His vision is elite and his spacial awareness very good to. Just doesn't really get flustered. From a defensive aspect notwithstanding the frame he loves to tackle and whilst an average 2-3 at champs / TAC he isn't averse to it but it is an area he could do some more work on to try and get that up around 5+ per game. Always love to watch how these kids go vs men and really rated his performance for the Academy side vs Blues and Werribee. He was hard at it and really competitive and I think the game vs the Blues was particularly good. Only knock is he didn't test that well at the combine which i was surprised by because when you watch him that is not the sense you get. Not sure where he will start at AFL level. He has shown he is very good off a HB flank, demonstrated this year he is a very good all round midfielder and has pushed forward as well to kick goals.

Why: I think Dodoro will be over the moon with whatever he lands but Parish would be perfect for Essendon. If not him I think they would take Curnow. Curnow, Langford and Laverde would be a good mid group to build around so good either way. Reckon Milera an outside chance.

Exactly. I'm not an expert but from what I've read the only knock on Parish seems his size & tackle numbers. Everything else he apparently does well. He's averaging 129 SuperCoach points a game & 29 disposals albeit at a lower level than AFL, but he can only beat who he's up against. I'm pretty sure Brayshaw & Salem averaged less at that level. He's been an All Australian twice. Not sure how we can really go wrong drafting this kid & how anyone sees him falling out of the top 5 let alone top 10.

Brett Anderson was interviewed on SEN yesterday evening and, in relation to the views he's expressed about who he believes Melbourne will take at pick 3, he stated that they were based on his analysis of this year's draft and that he was not taking in any mail whatsoever from the Melbourne Football Club. On that basis he's always thought Melbourne would choose Curnow over Darcy Parish but it could easily be Sam Weideman or Clayton Oliver - "I don't know if Jason Taylor would take Charlie Curnow".

Since Anderson's views about us taking Curnow ahead of Parish were made public a few weeks ago, some Phantom Drafts have been put out there nominating Curnow as our choice - it's almost as if they were taking Anderson's strong views as being based on inside information. However, that position has now been dispelled.

It could be Curnow, it could be Weideman but I still think Parish is the best available. Jason Taylor and Todd Viney are speaking at a draft function at the club tonight but I don't know if we'll be much better informed after that - it looks like the rest of the clubs are going to be kept guessing for a few more days.

Separately, on the testing of Weideman, I don't think I've heard anything much absurd than the proposition that we're considering him to keep Jesse Hogan happy and at the club. I'm sure Hogan would be just as happy to see the club add some future elite midfielders who could pump the ball to him with precision no less than a potential KPP who has been injured and out of action since May.

Think about it like this..

When we made 2 attempts to trade for pick 3, the 2nd one successful, Obviously we had a particular player targeted that would be available at 3 but not at 5,6 or 7. We didn't do it just to improve our draft position. IMO, we made our decision weeks ago and the statement on mfc website by Taylor was a suspense tease. Brett Anderson only made the comments about hearing that we'll take Curnow this week. So I believe it is Parish and has always been

Yes, I heard Anderson and he clearly had no clue who we'd take.

But then he tweets that he no longer believes Parish is in the frame at P3. And he sounds adamant. Interestingly, the tweets come within 30 minutes of him being on "air".

It's all a bit strange.

I keep coming back to Mahoney's comment at the end of trade week. He suggested two mids or a mid and a tall. It felt like pick 3 was earmarked for a mid and pick 7 would require a little more thought. I'm in the Parish is a lock camp.

he was a massive wrap for Parish. paraphrasing: most complete midfielder, will go in top 5. likened him to Joel Selwood! and this is not a he might turn out like selwood - he said that at the same age they are very similar. Andy M asked about the knocks on him not being as super competative as Selwood and he said Parish is a country boy and is hard at it and driven to succeed.

Michael Turner...he is always over the top about Falcons players so he likes to exaggerate a little.

Interesting though that their only player who was a 2 time AA was Bartel so Parish is in pretty good company, Bartel/Selwood...
