I see Cal Twomey has just tweeted that he thinks it's more unlikely than likely that we'll take Parish.

Grain - Salt

Im pretty sure that tweet was more in regards to him slipping to Essendon.

Someone says "will be an Essendon boy very soon" re Parish. Twomey replies "more unlikely than likely", meaning he'll be a Dee in his opinion.

Well if turns out we take 2 talls with pick 3 & 7 - then this tells me that Hogan's headed back to WA and won't re-sign.

This also tells me that you like making rash conclusions

I've now watched most of the Vic metro v country and I still didn't see that Parish was much good. Didn't seem to get into the game. If we do pick him someone please tell me that that match was unusual.

If we do pick him up you'll obviously have your answer.

Is that the game he played off half-back and only got 9 possessions ? If so, yes, it was an aberration.

I'd recommend watching the AIS Academy match Vs Weribee Sue, it's the footage that sold me on Parish....just the first quarter was enough.

Pretty sure it's the second link down on WJ's Pumping for Parish post.

Was that not shortly after returning from a layoff with a busted thumb?

If so, you can forgive him for a flat spot, I think.

It was actually a good few weeks after he came back from the injury during which time he played in the midfield once for the Falcons and twice for Victoria Country. In that game however, he was given a defensive role and was therefore not in the play as much as in those other games. In the last game for the Vic Country team he was back at his best in the middle. So in most games when he plays in the middle, he's averaging mid 20s in possessions in games that are 80 minutes long with no time on - translating into high 30 possession games if it was an AFL length game. Not to be sneezed at.

What I like about Parish is his ability to move the ball quickly and effectively from a tightly congested situation into space. He also seems to have very good awareness of when he's got a bit of time to run the ball out and when he's under pressure and needs to dispose of it quickly.

With the Falcons and Vic Country, his teammates knew to provide options. My concern is that this will be completely lost on our midfield, though maybe the likes of Brayshaw, Salem & Petracca may be able to anticipate what he might do when he has the ball and run to the right places.

Emma Quayle has Darcy as the 11th best footballer of this draft.

Hopper is the only mid I would take over Parish.

Emma can get a bit attached to the academy kids as I think they get more exposure, I also think she likes high upside talent (due to not actually ever having to develop these kids!) and probably as a product of working at the Age and growing up as an Essendon supporter during the Sheedy years she favours Indigenous players.

She's also a full time journo and only a part time recruiting guru.

That said, she does have a decent eye for talent and no doubt gets some inside info about players that helps frame her list.

But it does solidify my belief that the gap between the likes of Oliver, Milera and Parish is pretty small.

She has no eye for talent and regurgitates an amalgamation of what she has heard from recruiters & talent managers.

i suspect you are right

and she brings out her phantom draft a few days before the draft when she's collected all the clubs last minute leaks, so naturally gets pretty close (a la toumpas couple of years ago)

i'd be more impressed if her last phantom draft was say 2 weeks before draft

These Phantom Drafts are starting to get a bit confusing considering the amount of Academy players in the top 10.

Milera ahead of Parish ?

The Quayle possibly risks being a goose.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
