WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM WEIDEMAN

Dawes should start to really focus on his legal career after football now.

It seems the sand in the hourglass is disappearing for him quite quickly.

Well, it it?

There seems to be little reference to the structure of our team.

We know Big Max can not ruck all day, all over the ground. We had some very good years with Jeff White rucking around the ground and David Schwarz doing the ruck work in the forward line. Schwarz was not very tall but was extremely effective.

It concerns me that we don't seem to have an answer. Do we have to include a second fall in Spencef? No-one seems to suggest that Hogan will pinch hit in the ruck, and Weideman must be years away from doing so.

For this reason I am interested in the suggestion that Weideman could play CHB, because there is one bloke on our list who could do the ruck work on the forward line, and that is Tom McDonald. I was impressed by his efforts at CHF last year.

Until Tommy Mac can be freed up to play forward, there is a need for Dawes, who SHOULD be able to do the ruck work around the forward line, tho I concede he is not great at it!

Being a tragic and watching his highlights again. One thing i noticed was how good he is on both sides of his body, which is HUGE for a key forward (or any player for that matter).
He is naturally a right footer, but watch below how many times he uses his left, and is very damaging on it. Not scared of a contest either, and unlike a certain key-forward we have: HE CAN TAKE A MARK!

looks to have it all - good hands, speed and agility, good kick on both sides. May well have been the reason we cashed in next years pick. Can't wait to see Sam and Hogan together on our forward line. Delicious!

Looking forward to seeing him out there in the R&B sometime maybe mid to late 2016, if he has done enough at Casey and if the coaching panel / match committee feel he is good and ready (and I can't see why he might not be).  Looks a tough bugger.

It may be hard for the team to adapt though to a second tall forward whose remit is not to "bring the ball to ground" :-(

Praising bringing the ball to the ground always makes me laugh, gravity has always been good at that.

Speaking of gravity, perhaps the true gravity of the situation regarding  #6 playing future will become apparent if Sam W makes any decent progress in 2016.

There would be a sense of irony if Sam W debuted on queens birthday ... However that never really played out the best for Jack watts. I wouldn't put it past the filth to target him with a special welcome to afl footy greeting... hopefully Viney is on the park

After what Paul Roos thought on our treatment of Watts then i highly doubt this.  The Schwab Connolly days of trying to fairy tale every young player debut is over.

I agree, it would be incredibly unlikely: however it would be a delicious irony were he to do so and kick a bag in a match winning performance.

He and JW are very different players.

If his form warrants it they would look at him for QB, but I think they would still hold him back another week so he doesn't debut that round.

Agree. Roos talks about not wanting to put too much pressure on young players, and for an MFC player, the Queen's Birthday is about the most pressure-filled environment that a young player could debut in.

if i recall correctly, watts came in on qb after some outstanding vfl form.

it probably shouldn't have happened, but his selection was not unwarranted.

he got tackled and bounced straight up to receive a free kick

ruined his career apparently

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
