Without question my favourite player growing up. A very good man.

A very sad anniversary.

For those too young or anyone unfortunate enough to have not seen the great man in action.

But a glimpse of his amazing talent.

A true Demon who remained loyal.

We miss you dearly.

Very sad anniversary - just today I had occasion to tell someone why I have a deep-seated loathing of Whorethorn.

That overrated thug, Diperdomenico, crunching Robert Flower on the outer wing at Arctic Park on Preliminary Final day 1987 and rogering his shoulder.

Even if Jimmy hadn't run over the mark (albeit after the siren) thereby ensuring Buckenara's after siren goal, the harsh reality was that Robbie wouldn't have run out on to the ' G' the following week.

I sincerely hope the Weagles tear Hawthorn a new one.

I can NEVER understand just how he could not ever win that darn brownlow medal... he personifies Best & Fairest... his picture should be on that page.

Maybe they should change its name to the Robbie Flower medal, or put his picture on that darn medal, to give it back its Integrity.

Robbie is reason I follow MFC.

When I was a kid Robbie and a star from another club were my favourite players and my loyalties were torn between their two clubs.

The other guy finished playing VFL and Robbie kept on for a few more seasons so my loyalties went well and truly with MFC.

A weird twist of fate - had Robbie retired and the other guy stayed at his VFL club then my loyalties may have been with the other club and I would have celebrated a couple of premierships.

Despite no premiership celebration for me with the Dees, I would not change a thing.

As much as I crave a premiership, I would rather love the team that Robbie loved.

Admittedly I do not know what it is like to experience my team winning a flag, but I would rather be "flagless" with Robbie than premiers without him.

One of the happiest days of my life. And Robbie bought the slab!

Watching the highlights package brought back wonderful memories.

Like all the VERY good players of any era (Baldock, Jesaulenko, Ablett, Fyfe), Robbie seemingly always had the ball on a proverbial string and would then proceed to make opponents look like witches hats.

Not winning a Brownlow is understandable because, like Nathan Jones, he played a lot of his football in a losing team which makes it hard to get votes. However, what I have never understood is why he only won our B & F once.

I think I'm on safe ground, even on Demonland, if I say he has been Melbourne's best player since Barassi. If anyone wishes to dispute that statement, feel free to do so, but please justify why you wish to nominate anyone else.

He was poetry in motion. Made the hard look very easy.

- His size. He's unbelievably tiny for a footballer.

- His grace. Everyone else seems in slow motion. I love the way he evades opposition players. It might be a cliche but he really is on another level. Amazing stuff.

Flower finished 2nd in our B&F 4 times, he also finished 3rd twice whilst finishing 4th once and 5th once as well.

By contrast Greg Wells won it twice, was 2nd twice, finished 3rd three times and 4th twice.

So both champs had 9 top 5 finishes. In the case of Wells it was 9 top 4 finishes. Any player would take that sort of record, anytime,

As supporters, we may see it differently but we should see it though the eye of the player. Finishing in the top 5 of a B&F is quite an achievement in my eyes. There are some years where the team performs so poorly that a top 5 finish loses it's gloss but as a general rule, it's a great guide.

Robbie's Brownlow record is possibly a better indication of how good he was - a total of 150 votes when in those days 20 votes in any given year went close to winning the Brownlow (apart from 2 years in the 70's when the 2 umpires gave votes)

Height:183 cm Weight:75 kg. (and i presume that was wringing wet with an extra thick woollen jumper)

I heard him speak at a function a few years ago. I'm pretty sure he said 75 kg was his playing weight at the end of his career but when he started he was only 69 kg.

I never got to see him play. I got on board in 1988.
What I got to see of Robbie was his personality. Listen to an interview with him and he was never one to talk himself up or be bitter about his time at the club. He was a wonderful human being.

It's a pity the Robert Flower wing is just for our home games and not for all games played at the 'G.
