Almost every Facebook and Twitter comment section is filled with Bombers supporters basically celebrating that he's out the door.

Considering he's come out and said that he wants to leave the club I'm not surprised.

Read the same things in regards to Henderson leaving Carlton.

That's... a stretch. He was the whipping boy of the Bombers long before asking for a trade.

Who give s [censored] what those Hird worshipping losers think

Haha. This thread's actually pretty funny reading.

And as usual, HH has me convinced he's 12 or 13 years old.

I dont think a 12 year old could describe Essendon supporters as perfectly as I just did

Clint's cracked it !!

WADA/CAS still concerns me.

Hope theres a 'refund' clause stipulated.

I think that every Club looking at an Essendon player will have this covered. It is just a shame that the hearing cannot be concluded prior to trade week.

I posted some Melksham highlights from the 2009 TAC Cup Grand Final on the TAC Cup thread. Melksham was arguably BOG in that game and it's clear from the package that he was something of a talent back then.

I haven't been a big follower of Essendon on field but something obviously happened with Melksham in the past couple of seasons. I suppose that I'm speculating but it was Melksham who was named as one of the prime examples of Bomber players ... ahem ... "bulking up" big time in early 2011 when whatever unknown substances were apparently injected into 34 players at the club and perhaps the constant adverse publicity surrounding the saga has taken its toll. It could be that a change of scenery will do him the world of good if the chips fall his way at CAS.

Just have to be positive. No young kid could have blossomed in the Essendon environment the last few seasons. It must have been the most toxic footy environment in the history of VFL/AFL.

A new lease on life will be good for not just Melksham but any other player smart enough to leave.

Granted, but hopefully not 4 years at the speculated price. Or is it just that......speculation.

Just watched the 2009 TAC grand final and Melksham looked a star in that game. Can see why he was taken high in the draft..

There isf something definitely there.. its up to Mcartney and Goodwin to unlock it.

From this...

In my top 5 of players i would least want at the MFC

Walk up start... geez. Do a best 22 for us in 2016 and he will be nowhere near it... Melksham is garbage really - low possession getter, doesn't kick goals, low tackle count. Will give us nothing.

Jake Melkshams body of work speaks for itself. He has no talent.

Out of the 800 players in the AFL, we want this potato?????????

The day cant come soon enough when this potato re-signs with Essendope and this thread can be locked and disappear forever

Others may attempt the backflip. No-one will ever rival the master :)

I'm underwhelmed by Melksham, but you have to back Roosy. Many times when he was at Sydney I laughed at the players they picked up only to be wrong.

If you go back through the list he hasn't missed on too many:

2002

Nick Davis - Pies

Craig Bolton - P/S Brisbane

2003

No trades

2004

Darren Jolly - Melbourne

2005

Ted Richards - Essendon

2006

Peter Everitt - Hawks

2007

Marty Mattner - Adelaide

Henry Playfair - Geelong

2008

Rhyce Shaw - Pies

2009

Mark Seaby - Eagles

Shane Mumford - Geelong

Ben McGlynn - Hawks

Josh Kennedy - Hawks

2010

No trades

MELBOURNE

2013

Daniel Cross - Bulldogs FA

Aiden Riley - Crows FA

Viv Michie - Freo

Dom Tyson - GWS

Bernie Vince - Adelaide

2014

Ben Newton - Port FA

Jeff Garlett - Carlton

Lumumba - Pies

Sam Frost - GWS

I'll back him, Goodwin and Macca to make this one a positive trade too.

Bill Lawry on 12th man comes pretty close.

Bill: It's not a bad idea when you think about it

Richie: Yes it is Bill, it's a [censored] bad idea

Bill: Oh, Yeah now that you think about it

Richie: And Hansie Cronje is just as bad an idea

Tony: Bloody oath it is

Bill: Stupid selectors

Richie: Why on earth would they be considering those 2

Bill: It's stupid Rich, ridiculous, completely lacking in logic

I worked with a guy who was close mates with Melksham from junior footy days, when Hird first came to the club and brought in the weapon.

He passed on stories of how Melksham was handed a new diet plan that had him eating 2 full rotisserie chickens per day, amongst all the other things that were going on. The aim was rapid weight gain, and it worked at first, before 90% started dropping with soft tissue injuries.

This is all before the supplements saga became public & I never heard any mention of that.

Hird has shares in a chicken farm, coincidence?

Melbourne should offer a 3rd round selection. If Bummers say no then should talk with Melksham about walking for free and stating that the club failed in its duty of care i.e. not knowing what he was injected with. I remember that card was being played with Ryder as Essendon didn't want to trade him as he was under contract and their only decent contract.

Also happy for him to come to the club. Still young enough to have an impact for a few years. It is dissapoibting thst he isn't the franchise changing player like Dangerfield but he still gets a spot in a best 22 and that is what Roos does. Continues to just keep making the 22 better.

This could go either way. If our FD thinks he could really add something, we may pay a 2nd rounder, but I'm hoping we'd say, 'a 3rd rounder or we'll pick him up in the PSD'.

Edited by AdamFarr

I think we will get him for a 3rd round pick which is a win.

I doubt Essendon would accept a third rounder

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
