MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 23

Featured Replies

Probably wrong thread but loved the interview with Brendan McCartney - he is all class and a listen should dispel any doubts that our youngsters are in good hands. Very well done by Matt Burgan also.

Jetta (calf) and Spencer (concussion) are out, Jamar and M. Jones into the squad according to Patrick Keane.

Surely those additions are merely making up the numbers.

IN: Kennedy-Harris, Harmes, Brayshaw, White
OUT: Jetta (calf), Spencer (concussion), M. Jones, Watts

I can't believe Watts has been dropped, very strange.

Probably just resting him for finals kbj.

We seriously dropped Watts ahead of Newton? FMD, this club has no idea.

Probs just giving him a rest

Watts dropped is interesting. I am not bothered with it though, hes just not that good of a player.

Though I would have dropped Howe before him.

Wonder if a trade has been signed, sealed and delivered?

Hope so....waiting for Jumbo to accuse the selectors of being haters as well :)

Not bothered....it's worth another ten pages alone...

Just throwing it out there - Watts has requested a trade ?

Would be public, surely.

Odd though.

Gut feel is Watts dropped as he is going to be traded as part of a deal for a bigger fish.

Would've dropped 6-7 guys before Watts. And Kennedy-Harris ahead of him? Please.

Don't want to throw fuel on the fire but here's what a friend texted me a few days ago (I've waiting to see if something like this might happen):

"Hot news for you mate... We did a membership poster thingy for Melbourne footy club with jack watts as the front cover. They just rang and asked if he can be replaced. Hmmmm"

Obviously it might not mean anything - but if you add that to his unexplained dropping this week then it starts to feel like something MIGHT be happening.

Howe maybe doing a live audition,

Probably shouldn't say that ?

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
